  • Thorkild Hansen passed away last Saturday, November 6, 2021. He was a woodworker, a silversmith, blacksmith and jeweller and for over ten years tutored in furniture making at the Centre For Fine Woodworking in Nelson, New Zealand. An upbeat and lively character, he was by all accounts a key figure within the school. In 2017, Wood Review editor Linda Nathan interviewed Thorkild for a potential feature which didn't eventuate, however the interview is made available here for those who knew Thorkild, or for anyone interested to know a little more about this well loved and now sorely missed man.
Please note: this interview was not made for public airing, so no apologies are made for the sound of the wind, birds twittering and sheep baa-ing throughout...
A scholarship program has been set up in Thorkild's name, learn more about the Centre for Fine Woodworking and the scholarship program here: www.cfw.co.nz/

RIP. I never knew the man but sounds like he was a great asset to the community. We have recently discovered asbestos is being imported from China in all sorts of things. Horrible.
