I collect old VHS tapes, and pick up home recorded ones often (trying to find old Toonami, etc.). So, Slamfest 99 is also on my hunt list, just on the off-chance someone camcordered it back then (and made its way to ohio).
Living in Ohio I’ve never found what I’ve been seeking from old VHS tapes. I’m not sure if my luck is just god awful, but I stopped since I figured it was a lost cause. Encouraging to know someone is still looking, maybe I’ll stroll by a garage sale sometime soon.

One thing to consider is that the people being contacted are doing their jobs. Most companies don't keep dedicated archival staff- contacting anyone in customer support, finance, IT, and even marketing is asking them to do extra work for no incentive. If you worked a full 52 hour work week and someone asked you to spend time at work searching for something off the clock, would you *really* do it? I know we all like lost media, but seriously. *Would* you? Would you spend one of your 15 minute breaks poking around servers? Your lunch period?

I’m pretty sure you can enable read receipts for emails. I used them whenever I sent emails in high school with my proton address and got notified whenever my emails were opened. I know that when I used outlook, I was able to mark emails as important or even urgent to make them stand out in inboxes. Maybe those methods are already implemented in this search but still seem useful.
@@VengefulNonsense Email read receipts are hidden and always active. The only way to "disable" it (show the sender you didn't open the email) is to not load anything in the email besides text, which is not the default behavior for 98% of email clients. @@thiefrules 98% of email clients? Where'd that statistic come from? I guess that means there are more than 50. At least in Thunderbird, the default behaviour is to hide anything other than text with a banner that allows showing remote content. ;)
@@tomysshadow A little bit of exaggeration, but a large majority of default/popular email clients do not default to text-only, they will load text + images + other bits and bobs like fonts and emojis, for a better user experience. Thunderbird falls into privacy-focused, IIRC.
Man, talk about an update. Honestly, I just want to watch Slamfest '99, as it truly feels like an event that could've never happened again. Suffice to say, I support you guys on this search, and while I don't have any leads as I wasn't around to see it since I hadn't even been born yet, I truly do hope that there is a chance of us getting to see this piece of Nintendo history someday.
There’s someone on RUclips claiming to own a copy (they even claim to have uploaded it privately) they just refuse to actually release it. Channel is Mornings Von COZY.
We thought the same about many other things, that randomly resurface, or are found in some of the most obscure, or intensive searches, I would not give up hope.
We thought the same about the Wicked Witch episode of Sesame Street! It can be done! There’s no way not a single person there recorded it and then also didn’t keep the footage around.
It's possible that some of these companies have leads but aren't allowed to release them publicly due to copyright. Just a hunch idk. Good luck on your search though!
Whoa, I actually remember that Family Guy stream, I tried ShoutCast TV when it was a new thing because we had ADSL and I was a huge Winamp fan back in the day. I think I watched some Simpsons stream. Makes me feel old. I always wondered why ShoutCast TV seemed to just vanish while ShoutCast Radio is still a thing.
Thing is, livestreamed internet content was a lot harder to save back in the day unless it was downloaded outright/screen recorded (which was in a primitive state in the 90s) and whoever had the file just kept it on their computer and transferred it over to every new computer/hard drive for 20 years. With TV broadcasts its easier because people literally have VCRs and DVRs for that express purpose.
I don't remember if it was stated prior that the event banned cameras from people invited to the event being used for video footage. Or something akin to that. I was thinking maybe someone recorded video of the event and was physically at the place it happened (MGM Grand), but maybe that wasn't allowed.
@@CaptainJZH Exactly, remember how speedruns became popular online because id Software games like Doom had the option of saving very lightweight (only a couple KB) "demo" files that recreated your actions in the game as a choreography, instead of screen recording, which at the time was a hassle and hard to share due to data storage being expensive
Personally if you name drop when it's not asked for or it's not exactly relevant, like the onstream media contact, it can dissuade people from being as courteous. Name dropping can come off a bit too forward. I wouldn't say it's aggressive, but it can be quite pushy or forced. It can have people start to create distance because it can come off as weird, or like unasked for. Namedropping should be done when it's entirely relevant, but the email you sent seemed it wasn't needed to get your message across, since something like 'I messaged former employees' and something similarly vagueish would've worked. Name dropping is usually fine if you're even an acquaintance with someone, not complete strangers, but depending on how relevant the name drop is, it can give a similar response.
Absolutely right. I also think sending it from a professional email address with a real name in it would help--if your email is some made up crap with a 6 at the end, you come off like a rando or spammer.
14:40 Pretty interesting how F1 World Grand Prix 2 is advertised on the American Nintendo homepage. That game was never released for N64 in the states.
This is probably one of the most difficult searches ever! After TWO YEARS, it still hasn't been found! Or however many years it's been since the search started.
And it'll only get harder, as this is like dealing with degrading physical media but worse Because once a file gets deleted, and the data gets overwritten. Especially after this long any trace of a file is just gone. It's a race against time, and one we maybe already lost and all we have is remnants. Sorta like Fermi's Paradox, if we don't find aliens. They might be dead
@@WhimsicalLittledawg Because they already explored space long before we did, so it's like walking into a dead city where people once lived I'm not explaining it well, but it does make sense. I promise you
You should introduce yourself as a RUclips Partner, or video editor, or short-form documentary maker, or anything that sounds professional. If the contact is a much older person, they might dismiss you if they perceive you as a teenager, or some random "internet weirdo". The key people from this event are probably over 50 now, maybe over 60.
I still have hope that someone had a recording of it, I’m shocked there haven’t been any home media/personal recording of it released from the crowd viewing it or journalists that covered it dumping it online. Usually that’s how stuff like that is found, someone happens to have a recording/file and just decides to upload it to RUclips. It would be cool to know if someone either current or formerly at Nintendo might still have a copy saved somewhere too, but unless you’re a massive creator or have business contacts getting their attention can be hard. Did You Know Gaming sometimes gets former/current game developers for interviews and quotes, they might potentially be able to help somehow if they have the right connections.
I'm picturing what it'd be like if this would end with Kheang finally appearing out of thin air after years and going "yeah I have a recording" one can dream

I’m always amazed by the similarities that lost media and genealogy research share, mostly the issues they face. When searching for relatives and information I sent upwards of 200 physical letters around the world and only ended up getting a response to maybe 5 of them. I often wonder if my principal from middle school had anything to do with this event being lost. She had a brutal hatred for Super Smash Bros for an unknown reason.
Has it been considered to look for the event organizers? Perhaps they would have more insight. From costumes, to the logistics of setting up streaming equipment, perhaps someone who worked more closely with the streaming side would know something about it. And while it's a long shot, they might have a copy of the event since it seems like good rep to show to possible clients that the company had Nintendo as a client.
If this happened at the MGM Grand is there any chance you tried to contact them? May be a small shot in the dark but as someone who worked at a casino I know how possible it is they have something of it.

Thats for someone who'll decide about it
Where are you that 52 hours is a full working week?
honestly, i would, but im probably the outlier :P ive always been interested in lost media even before i knew that the term lost media existed, id totally spend any time i could searching if someone asked me to, even during work! im sure almost everyone feels differently though
Even if it resurfaces in 144p quality, I want to watch this thing just bc of what it means and how much work it took to find
this is my favorite cold case files show
absolutely love these lengthy lost media videos. hopefully this is found soon enough.
20:19 bro basically got a “I’m writing this so I never have to reply back” and they threw in a “they will contact you” just to give him some hope ☠️
Thats just a " Don't hold your breath" reply.
They said "someone will contact to you" to stop them being bothered as they wont follow up at all
I’m pretty sure you can enable read receipts for emails. I used them whenever I sent emails in high school with my proton address and got notified whenever my emails were opened. I know that when I used outlook, I was able to mark emails as important or even urgent to make them stand out in inboxes. Maybe those methods are already implemented in this search but still seem useful.
there's a Chrome extension you can use for Gmail to see if your emails were read or not.
You need to start attaching read receipts to your emails, so you know for sure if your message was lost or ignored
Well, they could see it and just choose not to send a read receipt, so this would not solve much.
@@VengefulNonsense Email read receipts are hidden and always active. The only way to "disable" it (show the sender you didn't open the email) is to not load anything in the email besides text, which is not the default behavior for 98% of email clients. Lots of companies use them in newsletters and marketing emails, to track who's opening and reading their stuff.
@@thiefrules there are chrome extensions you can use to see if someone read your emails or not though.
The only time I’ve seen text-only as a default is in privacy-focused email clients/OSes (used by relatively few people, as evident by how much ProtonMail struggled to survive), or in corporate email clients managed by an IT team.
When I saw the title, I was so happy to see another video on this topic, but then when I saw the thumbnail, I got slightly startled!
There’s someone on RUclips claiming to own a copy (they even claim to have uploaded it privately) they just refuse to actually release it. Channel is Mornings Von COZY.
Crazy how its been a year. I remember I found some images when I was sitting on the bus the day the channel opened.
I’m worried it might be forever lost
Give it 20 years before starting to lose hope.
@@J0SHUAKANE all right
We thought the same about many other things, that randomly resurface, or are found in some of the most obscure, or intensive searches, I would not give up hope.
We thought the same about the Wicked Witch episode of Sesame Street! It can be done! There’s no way not a single person there recorded it and then also didn’t keep the footage around.

It's weird, I think it's what makes Slamfest so special in the first place :P
I've enjoyed watching these videos so much.
You have mad dedication. I've subscribed
Game Informer specifically doesn't want scans of their magazines online, and there are very few you can find.
Maybe dmca got to them. It's harder to do that nowadays
I'm just surprised that no home recordings of this thing have surfaced. I guess they weren't allowed back then?
That thumbnail gonna gimme nightmares man
This is probably one of the most difficult searches ever! After TWO YEARS, it still hasn't been found!
Or however many years it's been since the search started.
And it'll only get harder, as this is like dealing with degrading physical media but worse
Because once a file gets deleted, and the data gets overwritten. Especially after this long
any trace of a file is just gone. It's a race against time, and one we maybe already lost
and all we have is remnants. Sorta like Fermi's Paradox, if we don't find aliens. They might be dead

Finding slamfest 99 the series
Coincidentally, “Smash Fest” is what we call my family gatherings.
I'm picturing what it'd be like if this would end with Kheang finally appearing out of thin air after years and going "yeah I have a recording"

The article that user on Discord found was from Winnipeg Free Press. My mom worked there at the time, and worked there from 1988 -2009.
It's like nintendo is trying to avoid this being found
You think any MGM Grand employees who worked at the time may have recorded it themselves?
I remember you specifically mentioned it being found in a year and look where we are now lmao
I really hope its found, its one of the pieces of lost media that I care about the most.
Believe me that writing to some random nintendo support will not get you anywhere... My friend used to work there in Czech. She didn't know a thing about the company and was surprised how I was so hyped when she told me about her work. Best they can do is to buy you some product cheaper when they say they are buying it for themselves. She didn't know a thing about games and other stuff too... Just so technical diffuculties and that is all. She couldn't even cotnact anybody higher...
You should look at getting a more professional email address (i.e. not gmail). I suspect a lot of the people you try to email are not seeing it, since webmail providers may be filtered out or otherwise just not considered important enough.
I realize how fucking lucky I am to have actually been there. cameras were allowed, and there were a few people with camcorders. including my friend.

I’m always amazed by the similarities that lost media and genealogy research share, mostly the issues they face. When searching for relatives and information I sent upwards of 200 physical letters around the world and only ended up getting a response to maybe 5 of them. It took months for some to respond who did at least provide information I wouldn’t have been able to find otherwise. Hopefully it’ll be true in this case and someone will finally respond back months later with a copy of the event 🤞🏻

I RE-FOUND A JVBO OPENING! Located here: ruclips.net/video/GNiMT_XcLhA/видео.html
Story time: I got bored and began to skip through 8 hours of commercials, openings and bumpers. One person (credited in the detail section) had one 8 hour upload, and like 2 hours into it I found gold.
And I state "re-found" as the episode stated it was partially found. However, half the videos are dead and I didn't see it there. So re-find I did!
I really don't understand why no one was bother to record this event back in 1999. It was a Nintendo event ffs! They were still popular at the time and the images looks quite crowded.
I would love to see this. I can just imagine donkey kong's mostly melee moves just becoming a lot more realistic.

It sounds that we getting close but yet far...
If this happened at the MGM Grand is there any chance you tried to contact them? May be a small shot in the dark but as someone who worked at a casino I know how possible it is they have something of it.
I don't remember, but has anyone tried to find the performers in the suits? I'd love to hear what their experience was on there.
Has anyone tried contacting KCL since they made the costumes, maybe they had a larger part in this event
They've been contacted years ago and claimed that they had no involvement in this event

I don't know if anyone has tried this yet or if it's possible and it's a long shot, but what if we find out who the people who dressed as Mario, Pikachu, Yoshi and Donkey Kong and contact them to see if they have a copy saved
While this is a good lead
. Finding out who was behind the costumes is close to impossible
Ed Espinoza, the PR person that set this up, has said that the actors were from cirque du soleil, so maybe look for the cast of shows in that time in 1999 near Las Vegas. I think you're on to something because those actors might have that footage if they starred in it
