Blue Jay Calls

- The first call is what I call a gurgle-bob with the jay making a gurgle sound as it bobs its body up and down. The second is a kind of Jay call and the third is a high pitched quick Jeer call.

I've heard the second and third calls before, but that first one is new to me. Always seeing more from these fun birds, you know? :)

@@waltersobchak7275 I mean they're related, Jay's are corvids.
@@AnAngryMagpie really? "I did not know that" in the voice of my namesake.😁
This is just what the government wants you to think blue jays sound like.
It's actually "WOAAHHHHH"
Real life Mordecai

They are awesome birds, I know that you would get a real kick out of them if you met one in person and you would have a great time photographing them too.
That’s not what a blue jay sounds like.

Thanks Rich.
They're great birds with lots to say... :)
Take care
Lesley
I love hearing them in the winter. It's a shame you have to put up with 2 minutes of ads to see 50 seconds of something I do want to see.
Revanced
Channels never had control over what kind of ads play on their video.
@@Gelatinocyte2 -That's a shame.
Thats cool glad you got to hear a new one which means if you do happen to hear it you'll know who it is coming from. The bird in this video I've known for going on 3 years now, named Bug :)
Nah thats not what they sound like they go woaaaaaahhh woaaaaaaaah
That was great! Unique and beautiful I’ve got mine going on too😇
Exceptional footage!!
Do you know who else miss the regular show?
*" My mom! "*
That’s wrong they don’t sound like that, they sound like: WOOOOOAAAAAAHH
Blue jays sound different in different areas
The blue jays in my areas are small while in other areas they are big
@@Gummynick1Music it was a joke/reference

@@Frenzy_Ice ok
This brings them str8 to our yard ...Walnut
Pistachios and unsalted sunflower seeds
No shell
0:22 my favorite of their calls - the “tweedle” 🐦
wow, i never knew they did the "gurgle-bob".... I've only heard their iconic Jeer calls (usually louder and frequently alarmed)
YESSS! That's the sound! I assumed it was a defensive call (territorial...another blue Jay encroaching etc) but I read your comment below about how it's related to mating blue jays in the breeding season. You're awesome!👍
Awesome. Glad I helped you find out what call it is. It's described as sounding like a gurgling noise, and it's usually done with a bobbing of the body. Because of that I started calling it the gurgle-bob, haha.
For the last 5 years I've known 3 male blue jays very well (spending just about every day with them) and I've yet to hear them make this sound. I've also known 3 other males for a shorter period of time and the same with them, no gurgle noise but I always hear the females doing. I'm still unsure what it means, or if I'm right to think that males won't use the call but like I said I haven't witnessed it yet. Oh and it can also be heard during the fall, when blue jays group up together to forage, but in winter it's not heard as much.
Nice! I live in Houston, TX and from what I've observed over the past couple years, Blue Jays seem to be pretty intelligent birds (right up there with the mocking bird...lol but this based on the area I live in that's populated with cardinals, mocking birds, blue jays, canaries, and grackles). I always love it when the blue jays play "neighborhood watch" and make the call for whenever a hawk is in the area. Especially the part, when they're high up in the air, pecking at the hawk haha
Thank you very much. I love your comments :)
Wonderful. I love bird mannerisms. : )
They usually say "Dude" or "Benson is gonna get pissed"
Thank you.
Wooooooooooooooo!
Mordecai in real life
they are so cute and funny :)
They usually say Duuuude!
lured a blue Jay out of my blueberry patch with this. thanks.
Could be or she could also be reassuring him that he is still her mate.
Who knows, all I know is that it is pretty interesting and I like the whole mystery behind what bird language actually really means.
Correction: It's Woaaahhh
I'm still trying to figure out for sure but as far as I can tell it seems that it is only the females that I ever hear making it and I rarely ever hear them making it in the winter. During the breeding season is when I hear it the most. With mated pairs I've noticed that when the male returns to his female after being a part for a few hours she will do the gurgle sound and she will also do this if her mate gets into a fight with another male. That’s as much as I can tell you for now.
We don't have the Stellar Jay but I'd love to see one they look so cool. I think I remember reading somewhere a while ago about Stellar Jays and Blue Jays sometimes interbreeding.
I had a Budgie that would make that sound 😂
ahhhh!!!!!!!!!
music to my ears
peace, rich
Mordecai
I thought blue jay is yelling 'woahhhhhh' all the time 😢
My life is a lie.😭
I have not seen a blue Jay in years
0:27 i heard a crow 😊
theres a crow around during the entire video lol give a few listens you'll hear that "AWWK AWK" clear as day lol
That's a pretty cute one too :)
The first one sounds like someone bouncing a marble lol
Wonderful!!!
Beautiful!
Very nice video..hello Lorenzo
¡¡WOAAAAAA!!
Thank you very much :)
Dude…Benson’s gonna be pissed
Lol, the gurgle-bob? :)
Glad you enjoyed
Happy Jay day
This video is obviously incorrect the average blue Jay call would be “woahhhh” or “Margaret”
Why do they make so many different songs?
So that is how it is said hey? Jeer Jeer. Thank you for that, I have a time trying put into words an explanation to how bird calls sounds unless they are very simple sounding and I don't find that reading descriptions really help to paint the picture for me. I better go change the description, thanks very much for informing of this :)
The one in my yard keeps going "coo, coo, coo, coo" quietly over & over again...
I was with Blue earlier the evening. Sweet girl is on the nest right now and you would think I would be able to find it hey, but no lol. Every now and again Sweet girl shows up for a brief moment I saw her just yesterday; she was trying to get rid of crow that was around.
satifying sound❣
Woaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Lol... yeah.
Lets all do the "Gurgle-bob"...
Nah, they sound more like "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!"

The gurgle-bob, do ya like that name I put together ?? Lol :)
The ones around me make a kill cry like a hawk. That’s so weird cause we have hawks and I heard it outside my yard called the dogs in cause I was worried the hawk was gonna snatch my chihuahuas but I hear the cry and look over and it’s a gosh damn blue jay
The first sound was a blackbird dope, played it and scared the bluejay, then .....😮
Wooooooooah
❤ cute ❤❤❤
Blue Jay Oakerson
The sound right after the gurgle bob what is that because I am hearing that and it's winter.
Did anyone know the youtuber blue Jay😅
Omg i almost got chased after playing this lol
Hearing the first call today. I was like "what on earth is that rumbling bird call in that forsythia bush?" Anyone know what it means? I think it may be another mating call because of the way it was bouncing and bobbing
in the summer the blue Jay really gurgle-bobs a lot in my yard and ...its annoying
Can i use this to get birds to my feeder? Its been 1 day and nothing yet😢 a feeling of rejection is setting in 😅
I swear i heard a blue jay skreech like a hawk one time but I guess i was wrong, maybe i heard a different bird while watching the blue jay
Encore!
the amount of people sitting here watching the bird make the noise saying it's wrong it's crazy. apparently none of you fools know that blue jays can actually mimic other birds they often and mimic red-tailed Hawks
You're not talking about the ones making Regular Show references, right?
@@Gelatinocyte2 no im talking about the ones that are literally saying blue jays domr
Why does it make those noises
Not from the us, but what a beautiful bird
It’s me blue Jay
❤❤❤❤
Ah ah chitun
Tried it..2 Bluejays came right away...seemed confused 😅
Camp Robbers ❤
