Does Kaito have an Instagram? Or RUclips channel? Which?
Thank you for your podcasts. They're amazing! I was wondering about something I've notice on Japanese words...the usages of little hiragana vowels. I didn't found much info about it so I thought I could ask you here. In expressions like うっせぇわ (instead of うっせいわ for example) or 笑ゥせぇるすまん or 行こうぜぇ. I see they use little hiragana like ぇ which is different than え. I was wondering why does that happen or is it a sort of slang maybe? I undertand if the little vowels appear on katakana words such as ファン or ガジェット, but don't really get it when they use small hiragana vowels (ぁぃぅぇぉ) on words. Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much!
To my knowledge, these small vowels are used in slang and are generally optional. They are usually used to reflect the changes and intonation, and can be, in some cases, replaced with an elongator. In essence, they are a stylistic usage case. For example, えー! can also be えぇ!, but not without a slight difference in pronunciation. I am not a native speaker, so I would check with one; however, from my experience, this is what these are used for.
