Fun Fact: My great-grandfather who passed away in the late 1980s was a carpenter here in San Jose. He was one of many who did work for the Winchester House, however, I'm not entirely sure of his actual job. Whether it was construction directly or making pieces for the workers to use, I just know he did a lot of woodworking throughout the Bay Area including the wooden scaffolding walkways for both Bay Bridge and Golden Gate. One of very few people in my family I adored and loved because he did so much locally.
In my early 20s, I and a friend named Ryan went to get jobs at the house as guides. They wanted us both but could only hire one of us. Ryan was writing a play on Sarah and her life and researched so much I opted to withdrawl my appplication so he could follow the dream of knowing all there is to know inside and out of the house and life of the Winchesters. We lost touch, I hope he followed those dreams.
Just a wild house and anyone local has some connection to it and the property in some fashion. It could be someone who tended the orchards, built the house, brought goods to the property, even people who bought the land from Sarah, just so much history for all of us. HOPEFULLY the house can withstand another 100 years as it is today.

I’m 62 and remember reading about this when I was 10 in Ripleys Believe it or Not. It has always fascinated me. Cheers from Montreal.

Sorry you don't enjoy it. The fact it's survived many devastating quakes in the region, major urban build up around it and has no blueprints and was built like a maze with so many interesting features, nooks and crannies, yet still stands really isn't much of a gimmick than a wonder of art.
