▶In this video, I compare the US States of Florida and California. Going into various aspects, including flags, territory, geography, weather, coastline, population, politics, demographics, religion, education, wages, economy, taxes, infrastructure, HDI, and safety. California, the larger and more populous of the two, leans liberal in politics, while Florida has a mix of ideologies. Demographically, California is more diverse, and both states differ in religious affiliations. California has a higher GDP and bigger wages, but Florida has lower taxes. Overall, the comparison reveals similarities and differences between the two states.

I would prefer comparing New England & New York to the upper mid-west, specifically Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan. They seem like they would have somewhat similar climate and at least Wisconsin and Michigan have Great Lake access giving them more access to shorelines than most people realize. My geography isn’t great so I can’t remember if Minnesota borders any Great Lakes. You could possibly include Ohio, Indiana and Illinois with these upper Midwest states but they seem more similar to Mid-Atlantic states like Pennsylvania. New York is also a mid-Atlantic state but I see how some people group it with New England, more so than other mid-Atlantic states.

All but one Congressional Rep is a Democrat and and the county supervisors went from 3 to 2 Republican Democrat to 2 to 3 Republican and Democrat. There is a mistake in your information. Florida DOES have a highspeed rail system. It covers Miami to Orlando. The Orlando to Tampa and Orlando to Jacksonville legs are still planned and on schedule. There is also a trirail system which unites the southeast counties of Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami Dade. California does not have any rail system in place and the next planned system connecting LA to Las Vegas is being built by Brightline which is the Florida company

    • @picklking1119

Florida's Brightline isn't actually High Speed Rail. It's what qualifies as Higher Speed Rail. Not only does it fail to meet the qualifying speed of 125mph, it's average speed of the train is significantly lower due to the fact it has several crossings it has to slow down at. HSR is usually completely grade separated so it can reach high speeds consistently, but Brightline florida kept separate grade crossings to a minimum to reduce costs. There's also the fact it's not electrified at all. And you're wrong, California has several regional passenger rail systems such as Metrolink in the LA area, and BART in the Bay area, along with Amtrack services throughout the state.

If you want more than that and you don’t want to go to jail, you have to come back later, or shoplift a different store. And living on $50k in Florida is much more affordable than living on $52k in California. As someone who has lived in both, Florida is far superior if you want to live a healthy lifestyle affordably. Also, the people in Florida are more down to earth & friendly in my experience than California. The average person in Florida is more likely to help out a complete stranger, versus California where even people you know are not as likely to help you out. Californians are more pretentious and elitists, whereas Floridians are more humble, kind, and giving of their time and money to benefit others. On paper California looks great, but when you actually live in both you see the difference and Florida beats California hands down for it's people and just being a nicer place to live.

A couple of corrections; the rivalry between the two states is not friendly. Also, the words "California Republic" wasn't through a desire to become independent, it actually happened due to California seceding from Mexico and being a nation for 25 days before annexation by the US. The original Bear Flag had that written on it when it was raised in Sonoma where the US Navy went and took it down. I'll let someone from Florida clarify their flags design but I've heard that it a reflection of Florida being part of the Confederacy which had a blue cross with white stripes. I can't be too sure of this though. The Port of Oakland is not synonomous with the port of San Francisco since there is also a Port of San Francisco which is smaller than Oakland's. Good comparison video otherwise.

Uhhh, this video is mostly right, but got a few things wrong. At the 10:00 mark California as a whole has much better public transit than FL in their major cities. The Bay Area’s BART system is basically the NYC metro of the West Coast, with lines all over the metro Oakland, SF & San Jose areas. LA’s light rail isn’t bad either but has a ways to go. A lot better than 10 years ago. San Diego & Sacramento have light rail too. Meanwhile only Miami has light rail in FL…but hey at least you can ride Brightline now from Orlando to Miami, with plans to Tampa in the next few years.

The cost of living for Florida and California are kind of misleading here because it depends what city you choose to live in from each state. I lived in San Francisco and now live in Orlando and yes the wages are less than San Francisco but not a lot less but you know what’s also less? Rent. I did lose $3 an hour moving here but the average rent for a studio in SF is like $2,500 while Orlando for a STUDIO is like $1,300. However you could also make the argument that it’s easier to afford Bakersfield over Miami but then you’re in Bakersfield over Miami and I’m not the biggest fan of either but I’d way rather live in Miami.

The only difference between tropical versus subtropical is the average monthly temperature isn't below 64 °F/18 °C, during the coolest month. Due to the "thinning" of the Florida Peninsula this can be easier maintained in the Southern most counties, especially the Florida Keys.
However cities further North especially right along the Gulf of Mexico are borderline tropical. Take Clearwater in the Tampa Bay area. Their average monthly temperature during their coldest months (January and February) is at 62.3 °F/16.8 °C. Which is only 2.1 °F/1.2 °C below the tropical threshold.

Florida is expensive to live because retirees come here and have no problem flopping 300k on a modest house, meanwhile most people make less than $20/hour and by far the largest industry is service which sucks for pay. That being said, I think California is in a worse position in regards to standards of living. Florida isn't out pacing population growth for no reason in comparison to California. That being said, I think what is going on in Florida is population replacement as younger people can't afford to live here, they move to another state. If it weren't for my parents living here, I'm almost certain I would move out.

I lived in California for 37 years before moving to Nevada because California was so unsafe. The reason California seems safer, even though it isn't, is because the Police departments don't come unless something very serious happened. Because of this, a lot fewer police reports are written than the actual number of crimes committed and that tends to make the crime rate look lower. If the police wrote a report every time a crime were actually committed the California crime rate would be through the roof. Please do a comparison of California and Nevada next.

Florida's basically a sand bar made of dead compacted coral fossils. CA's geology is a whole lot different from Florida's, and climate change will drastically affect the state in all its regions but California will survive.

I think the political analysis of the two states was a bit incomplete, but it was a good review nonetheless. Florida has one of the nation's largest disenfranchisement holding and some of the more drastic gerrymandering in the nation, so I think it may be unfair to say the state is red, rather than the outcome of these factors RESULT it in being red.
Otherwise, great and digestible overview of two great states.

In the last statewide election for governor and senate, the republican candidates won by 20%. And you can't blame gerrymandering, because again, state-wide election. Florida today is a red state. Also, requiring ID to vote is not "disenfranchisement." Every country has the same requirement.

@@mikesiciliano210 10.43% of the Florida population is disenfranchised. 1,686,318 total Floridians are disenfranchised. Florida has the most disenfranchised citizens in the country. That means, ID or not, there is 10% of the voting population that are barred from voting given only having a felony. As such, a little under a quarter of the entire black male population, both a large enough voter bloc to have swayed both the 2016 and 2020 election, and a consistent Democratic stronghold, it is a definite political tool used by the republicans to manufacture an image of red in an otherwise purple state.
