Yep this is the right rank. Vinland Saga is the best story about Viking era so far. Vinland Saga is the most accurate. They even use the plot of Danish Empire + Viking invading Britain too. The problem with the west people and probably also with the world is, they tend to see comic and animation as a thing for children. This is so wrong. I mean.. Comic & animation is not about children stuff. It's just a media. And Vinland Saga is so great at the historical accuracy. But their actions are just like typical Japanese action. They fly when hit by weapon, they can jump high, they can cut bodies easily, etc.

Vikings is my favorite out of them all. The way they use metaphor is amazing and the way they handle characters to gave us goosebumps is also amazing, like imo, (major spoiler) Ragnar's character at the end when he's gone for years is written lazyly, yes it is but regardless, his death gave me goosebumps, like his talk with the seer and his speech when he's dying. Damn man it's amazing how they handle that. It's also the same to Bjorn's death too, they really gave us that "Ironside" feeling like his really protected by the gods same to how they handle the claim that Ragnar is the gods' descendants. Another thing that amaze me is that the children of Ragnar would not be as good as they are if they didn't mention that they are sons of Ragnar, so it's like those characters is written to make Ragnar a more amazing of a character.
The way Last Kingdom portrays magic is really interesting and I think ultimately very true to life. The curse ends up being effectively real because the character who is cursed and all of the people surrounding him who are usually supporting him unflinchingly genuinely believe that he is cursed. People lose confidence in Uhtred and he loses confidence in himself because he thinks that the Gods are no longer on his side. People believe the Seer could communicate with the gods in some way and she did all sorts of freaky rituals in front of people to sort of intimidate and woo them into believing as well. Powerful men in the show want her and are scared of her for her religious, spiritual power, all of which is likely a real societal thing that happened with religious figures at the time. I read once that Christian trials by combat probably worked in some way, because if both members doing the duel truly believed in it they would think that because they were guilty God would not allow them to win. I think the same is true here.
I agree with basically everything you said! You can tell Cornwell and the showrunners try hard to show how superstition and rituals played a big part in medieval life (and still do today to an extent!)

You do not need an explanation for the viking age. Scandinavians had been raiding, trading and settling since the Bronze Age. The Germanic migration out of Scandinavia started 500 BC. The Anglo Saxons had one foot in Scandinavia when they migrated to Britain in 400-550. The somewhat change in Scandinavian pressure on northern Europe is the sail and viking ship rigging. That evolved 500-800.
You didn't talk about historical costumes, the armor and dress in Vikings is outright disgusting to watch for an historical perspective of the time period.

@@thunderbrospeaks9573 nice i watched Vikings and i like it and with the anime of vinland saga I want to watch more series related with vikings so I think i'm going to start tlk because I heard very good things about it
So many people give Vikings a bad rep cos of the inaccuracy of the show and all that. But for me I'd say it's the show that got me so interested in nordic history and made me do some historical research. Is it accurate? Oh definitely not! But I don't think it was meant to be an exact representation but more of a as you say " a celebration of all the Viking legendary figures in one narrative". I still like the show regardless. 😄
I love Thorfinn ~ but Ragnar's Viking was legendary the acting the dialogues everything, "My little piggies will come when they realize how the old Boar suffered" that was probably what made me accept his death.. Plus his Character development based on Religion to christianity to atheism made me love him even more "There are no gods, all we do is kill people in the name of different Gods"
Can I point out that the scene in Vikings that you liked so much, where the Viking raiders and the Northumbrians suffer communication issues, was utterly ridiculous. The language barrier between Old English and the Norsemen was not that bad and the two people had been trading for YEARS before Lindisfarne. It is daft to assume they could not converse with each other.
I disagree about Vikings "giving the English characters a fair shake" - certainly not moreso than The Last Kingdom does for Viking characters. Nearly all of the English characters in Vikings are annoying in the extreme. They're just not realistic either but, more than anything, they're just plain obnoxious. In The Last Kingdom there are plenty Anglo-Saxon antagonists, such as Odda the Younger, Aethelred of Mercia and Aethelwold but, unlike Vikings where such characters are just plain mean, these characters all have realistic flaws and there is underlying cause for their behaviour. They also nearly all, like their Viking counterparts in The Last Kingdok and in real life, have more complex stories than simply being either "good" or "bad". Also, there are plenty Vikings in The Last Kingdom who get a good reputation, such as Young Ragnar, Thyra, Gisela and Sihtric, not to mention Erik who starts off as a Villain but emerges as somewhat of a hero in the end of season 2. "Vikings" in my opinion, is just not as well written, certainly as a character driven show as so many characters are one dimensional. The only real character that was interesting in Vikings was Ragnar Lodbrok himself, maybe Rollo to an extent also.
They get a lot of the historical feel and themes. But the main characters culture is to Japanese not norse such as the seen with the slave was redicoulus..... Also a lot of anime tropes... As well as for real viking mind set and culture An example a got land viking attacked a Estonian farm but the owner was locked up in his home he was challenged to a duel homgang but he refused So the raiders couldn't steal the stuff because that would be dishonorable. So the raider set fire to the barn then when the man came out he challenged him and slayed him. He retained his honour that the viking mind set honor above blood for silver and soil and leaving a legacy worthy of the hall of the gods . Also jomborg THOR was apart of was were a holy brother hood of warrior a proto pagan templars . Also the culture of war at this time was highly idolised and next to trading was celebrity status how many people you killed. ..... Even with all that it's still a fantastic anime.....
While Vinland Saga was a great show it's unrealistic portrayal of how strong 1 man can be was enthralling but disconnecting. The Last Kingdom does good to remind you that these characters are human, something I don't see an anime doing for me.
Most of the comments are kids under 13 i can't take your comments seriously i mean i get it why u choose Vinland saga over Vikings ive watched both and in my opinion Vikings is better in every way , the history accuracy, the logic, the characters but i get why you are all choosing vinland because its an anime and people can literally jump from ship to ship and can take 20 arrows and still live to shit talk but please stop saying shit like Vinland is more story accurate than Vikings just because u like it more the story is good but not rven close to accurate
The Last Kingdom is by far better than Vikings. It's more historical accurate, like a lot more, the battles are a lot better which probably would've been the same back then, the characters are more likeable, the pace is much better and not stretched out like Vikings which have to many episodes which don't move the plot at all and are like filler.
Can't believe someone could be so dumb and embarrass themselves by saying Vikings is more historically accurate than Vinaland Saga. Anyways thanks for giving me a good chuckle.
@@mordor4309 my favorite part of the logic in vinland saga was when the protagonist jumped over the wall with a dagger and took down 30 men who were fully geared up 😍😍
Vikings is most historical acuurate it's more than 70 percent accurate history tlk is a fake stroy with real characters death of Bjorn ironside is one of best scenes in any show
Lothbrok isn't Rolo's last name. Lothbrok was an epithet that Ragnar picked up because he like to wear fur pants. Ragnar Lothbrok would accurately translate as Ragnar Hairy Breeches. Your last name during that time would be your father's name plus sen/son. So Rolo his last name would be Sigurdsson. The Last Kingdom got that right with Uhtred calling himself Ragnarson.
@@thunderbrospeaks9573 it's not your fault as the show itself is guilty of this. King Harald referred to the Sons of Ragnar as the Lothbroks which Michael Hirst should have known was incorrect. However, it's not unheard of for people to adopt the name/ nickname of an ancestor.

I could not get ibto Vikings show but i really likes Vinland saga
Yes because you like cartoonic shit
@@whiteobama8265 oh and you are the most maturest person on earth.. Lol

Anyone else here after the Assassins Creed Valhalla and is looking to watch something to get that vibe? Lol
I'm honoured you chose my video for that!
Yea Ragnar is my favourite of the 3 protagonists! A lot of what you said I couldn't have said better myself, thanks for the comment!
You'll love thorfinn 10x more after new seasons
Can I point out that the scene in Vikings that you liked so much, where the Viking raiders and the Northumbrians suffer communication issues, was utterly ridiculous. The language barrier between Old English and the Norsemen was not that bad and the two people had been trading for YEARS before Lindisfarne. It is daft to assume they could not converse with each other.
Vinland saga is far better than vikings & the last kingdom
I'm not sure which of the 3 I like better or not, I like them all about the same imo
It's better but "far" is an exaggeration
I like TLK season 1 better than the Vinland Saga anime.
Hi
Vikings was very realistic England was a bunch of stuck up people back in that day they were a wimpy compared to the Northman
Vikings ragner lothbroke is outstanding, best.
Vikings is More truth
Vinland saga wins people don’t look like try hard Vikings wearing shitty leather jerkins
vikings problem is the same problem as 300
I think the Vikings ragnar is better
Vikings is my favorite out of the 3
They get a lot of the historical feel and themes.
Vikings show is way better then the Last kingdom! On the last kingdom the vikings don't even sound viking
I like both shows almost equally! Though I think Last Kingdom rn is better than Vikings, Vikings had a more exciting run up to this current point!

Vikings is the best show
Vinland Saga is the best
Last Kingdom is very very good
Vikings is absolute garbage and vikings don’t wear helmets.
I agree with your first two points! I do find Vikings enjoyable tho!
Amen.
cant stand the last kingdom.
Vikings wear helmets WTF
Vikings is the best
vikings is the best
While Vinland Saga was a great show it's unrealistic portrayal of how strong 1 man can be was enthralling but disconnecting. The Last Kingdom does good to remind you that these characters are human, something I don't see an anime doing for me.
Uhtred and Thorfinn>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ragnar
nah
Ok noted! That's something I overlooked myself, thanks :D
Ragnar Ragnarson, from The Last Kingdom, and Ragnar from Vikings are not the same person.
Vikings sucks lately!
Yea latest season was not very strong compared to the others.
Vikings sucked when they started virtue signalling by having all of the armies consist of women.
Vikings > TLK by far
I disagree
No... You have the right to prefer shit than gold, but you can't say than shit is more valuable than gold.
Yeep TLK is shit compared to Vikings
After watching vikings the rest look fuckin weak. That's just my opinion
vikings is the best
