Most of the jokes have lost their original meaning during translation and are not at all what they were meant to be. Also, many of the jokes and other stuff only make sense in the original language, more of a “insider joke” for Chinese. For example, the character 肝 (gan) on the MC’s shirt, only makes sense in Chinese and cannot be directly translated. Its literal meaning is the organ liver, but it comes from a popular internet buzzword the youngsters like to use. They call the action of pulling an all-nighter to play video games “explode the liver“ (which originated from one of the theories in Chinese medicine, that going to bed too late hurts the liver). The MC is a live-stream gamer in the real world, hence the word ‘liver’ on his shirt. There are lots of intricacies and nuances in the jokes, which unfortunately are lost due to the fact of the “insider joke”and the extremely poor translation .
