Double edge razor CAN STILL clog! Yes, they do clog, depending on how much water in the lather, length of hair being cut/shaved, and whether doing a face or a head shave. The one great advantage in contrast to disposable or cartridge is that you can remove the double edge blade and clear the clog, put it back and continue with the shave. Actually there is also an easy way to clear the clogging from the multiblade disposables (for the good ones anyway), but .... maybe later.
The Van Der Hagan shaving soap is actually really good for what it is. For less the $5 a puck the lather you get is really slick and hydrating. The scent is hardly noticeable but the slickness is right up there with more expensive soaps. Having said that there's hundreds and hundreds of different soaps and creams to try out with wet shaving. It really is great once you break away from the Gillette corporate monopoly.
Many of those suggestions you find are not really necessary. You can simply use cold or cool water to make the lather, and when you have the lather the way you want then just brush it onto your face. That's about it; and then just shave. Key is to use the lather to wet your face and whiskers and let it be in contact there for at least a couple minutes, and this may be enough preparation to start your shave.
Did you know that old straight razors there was a slot in the back of the medicine cabinet that you put the old blades in and they fell down into the cavity of your walls and when you tear out an old wall from a house from the 30s and 40s you sometimes find piles of razor blades
You said “straight razors”…..you mean DE razor blades. A straight razor has an unprotected blade and a handle very difficult to get into one of those slots!!!!

Good step trying a double edge safety razor. Next good step should be a shave soap and shaving/lathering brush.
Nice video. Please what is your estimated blade gap on this razor?
Just get the long handle weishi or wilkinson sword tto from Amazon they both have bigger
handles and would suit your big hands

They had razor blade slots in homes from the 80's to. In fact you can still buy the plates to screw into the back of your medicine cabinet.
