I actually seen how this came to be on a documentary about 15 or 20 years ago. I adopted it in my work. It keeps mistakes and missed steps to a low percentage.

I have seen many "cab drive" on Japanese trains, and I am really impressed on their "exact" work, "pointing to every important details" can indeed reduce errors. Thanks to this excellent way, I tried to point to my work sheet as well, in my post work, and indeed, I found out that I am making less errors than previously. When I sometimes neglected to check my sheet, I was losing time, because there were more than one package to deliver : if I had checked the sheet, I would have seen that there were 2 or more to deliver.
Does this pointing have a name? How do the Japanese call it? It was probably said in the video, but I would like to see it written down (so I can point to it haha).

"Pointing & Calling" is often called "指差呼称" [shi, sah,ko,show] or [yubi, sashi,ko,show].
The meaning of each kanji is, [指: finger] [差: pointing] [呼: calling] [称: (target) name].
      keep safety =)

I was trying to get the station master attention while he was pointing at a train that just left. He "yelled" at me to wait.. 😂 I had no clue what he was doing nor realized how important his job was. He did then graciously helped out this lost white man. 😂😂
