Gordon Gulch and Ironclads Off Road Trails: Jeep Wrangler TJ vs Grand Cherokee Trailhawk WK2

Gordon Gulch: Ordinary cars can manage the east side from Highway 72, so it is very popular with hikers, bikers and Jeeps! People like to camp here over the weekend. Gordon Gulch is also open to unlicensed vehicles and offers several side roads to explore. We selected a route with some challenging 4-wheel-drive sections.
The fun began at Ironclads Offroad Trail outside of Nederland, Colorado off of Bunce School Rd. We couldn’t bring ourselves to rate this road difficult, although a few places come close to this rating. It’s rocky and steep, but has no major obstacles. It’s a very narrow shelf road for most of its length, with very few places to pass an oncoming vehicle. We recommend the trail be driven uphill because uphill traffic always has the right-of-way. If you drive it downhill, you may have to back up a considerable distance to let someone get by.
