After the Decot in Edgerton, we drove over to this Equinox in the small village of Brooklyn for its 6PM blast. Since the last several times this has been recorded, the trees surrounding the siren have overgrown and complete covered the Equinox from almost all sides, making this really hard to record. I had to go in a clearing by some abandoned railroad tracks to get a good shot, although it was more of an undershot. That never hurts anyone though.
Before the blast, I looked through some trees and noticed the Equinox had all brand new cabinets, and that the ATI radio this (and all other Dane County sirens) used to have was now gone, and now had a Federal two-way radio. Something in the back of my mind told me that due to this change, the Equinox would rather do something else, or not even do the 6PM blast at all. At 6PM, it abruptly started rotating, and with no sound. At first I thought that the fuse for the chopper was broke, but I then started to think it was doing just a silent test where it rotates about halfway around and then does a short growl test. That thought turned out to be true because once it stopped rotating, it winded up at about 50% of full power. ECS must’ve changed this due to village residents complaining about the siren reaching full pitch every day. Even though I got less than expected, the shot was still cool and atleast it still does something daily.
Also, even though this siren is technically in Green County, it is activated and tested by Dane County.
