    That 8 voice chorus is a thing of beauty. I really enjoy this rack gear series of yours for many reasons, not the least of which is that with most of these units there's one setting you find that shines and makes you want it.

    Man, as soon as you started playing after turning it on, it was glorious brother.
    I've always been a big fan of digitechs effects. I used to own one of their POD red things and it cost me like 80 bucks used back in the late 90s or early 2000s and it actually sounded great. I recorded myself using backing tracks and free open source DAW. It sounded great if I do say so myself. That, or I was just used to being so limited by old gear. 😂😂
    Great video sir. All of your rack gear demos always rock. Good stuff.

    This unit is so much 80s sounding, simply great. Nobody uses such gems any more these days. But for those who are looking for classic sounds from Ratt to Rush, Streets and hair metal band, this is the way to go. Especially Digitech's proprietary Gigaverb algorithm sounds killer, but you can't combine it with other effects since it consumes virtually of the unit's calculating power.

    Not a terrible fx unit at all. But I wouldn't pay a dime for any gsp or tsr boxes. Or any digitech product for that matter. The tsdr-24s aside from missing the tube circuitry of the 2101, is also missing the smooth whammy module of the gsp-2101 as well as the analog wah and compressor. One thing that pisses me off is the lack of consistency across fx modules in both this unit and the 2101. For example the 8 and 4 voice chorus module don't allow you to change modulation waveshape, whereas the 2 voice module has an accessible parameter to control waveshape. There isn't much fun in an 8voice module if the taps are just mere offset copies. On the other hand if you make an algorithm with just three dual voice chorus modules, that allows you to change the waveshape of each dual voice module. When you set each to a different waveshape each (tri,sin.log), it gets you really close to the dytronics tri-chorus fx sound. (You can do the same with the dual voice phase/flanger modules). What digitech did with these boxes is kind of criminal. They stuffed it with crappy sounding presets instead of giving us more user memory to create our own algorithms. And btw this is one of the only advantages the tsr-24s unit has over the gsp-2101. It allows you to program 32 user algorithm instead of 8 usr algo limit of the 2101. If I'm being honest, I don't see the point of these units when you can program your own effects in a more modular way with plugins like reaktor blocks. Not only is it a better learning experience that isn't marred by a crappy UI, but you have far better control over module arrangement. The UIs on these freggin vintage things are a total time vampire. So god damn awful

    • @HominidInterneticus
      @HominidInterneticus 2 года назад

      No it doesn't have a smooth whammy module. It's the regular one and it doesn't sound nearly as good as digi's whammy pedal, or the smooth whammy module of the gsp-2101. It's kind of jagged/zippy sounding. There's no gsp-2101 control one pedal controller port on the tsr-24 either. This also something to consider if you plan to use the gsp-2101 with a foot controller. The proprietary digitech control-one controller has more range control than a plain MIDI controller

    • @HominidInterneticus
      @HominidInterneticus 2 года назад

      @@rokinrandy There's no shortage of the 2101 on ebay or reverb. The specialized control one or 2101fc controller for the 2101 turns up a lot on guitar center used store section of their website , as well as sweetwater's used section, and music go around online store. And you can have it for as little as $70. The GSP-2101 I've seen it go for $199 or less in working condition. The other units that do have a stand alone footswitch port for both the control one and 2101fc controllers are the digitech valve efx, and digitech legend I/II, the 2112 and the 2120. All of those units are more geared towards guitar players. Whereas the TSR-24 was geared towards studio use and thus didn't come with the dedicated footswitch controller port. But at the end of the day if a good whammy sound is what you're after, I'd get the stand alone digitech whammy4 pedal. I'd put the TSR-24 back on the market and get something that works for you as a guitar player. I'm more partial to the 2112 and 2120 because digitech never fully ironed out the bugs on the 2101. And like I mentioned before both the gsp2101fc foot controller and the control one controller work for both the 2112 and 2120, not just the 2101

    • @rokinrandy
      @rokinrandy 2 года назад

      @@HominidInterneticus I think you’re right. I’m having a time making some presets. A lot harder than I remember with the gsp 21 and rp 12. I didn’t even know it couldn’t take foot controllers well. Ofcourse I mainly got it for that stereo delay. But there’s a certain sweetness to those digitechs I’ve been missing.

    • @HominidInterneticus
      @HominidInterneticus 2 года назад

      @@rokinrandy You can use 3rd party midi foot controllers with the gsp-2101 via MIDI in. But like I said, the whammy modules only sound good with the proprietary digitech controllers.
      Btw, do not put MIDI controllers in the 2101's proprietary FC jack, even if it looks identical to a MIDI input. They repurposed the MIDI-looking port for their own protocol.
      What part are you having trouble with? The algorithm creation? In my experience where most people get stuck is in the algorithm i/o linking part. Which specifies how you're chaining the fx modules together. You really can't leave it to the 2101 to do it on its own because it always gets it wrong when you have an elaborate algorithm in mind. Come up with your algorithm on paper and then I'll show you how to link it. If you want ideas download the pdf manual off the web and then look at the algorithm diagrams at the end of the manual to see how they were made.
      But again, get some perspective on the time you'd be wasting here. You're far better off buying a newer twin series boss pedal if you're only after stereo delay. Racks are for anal wads anyhow

    Somehow, it sounds too "brightish" to me... Admittedly, it is very 80s sounding, so that's a plus. But I would use it on my synths and not on the guitar. It doesn't beat a Lexicon MPX100 soundwise, and I like the Intellifex better. I'm making a mental note for "potential candidate for my K4r" ;)

      Yea his prs did sound like a strat. I had one of these 90s era digitechs and the factory presets were mostly out of wack I did away with most of the eq. And then the reverb had eq or a bright for every angle and diffuse or whatever. Or it seemed like it did . Took some tweaking but got the bright out. And it still cut through. It kept me from the floor. These pedals are killin me.
      I wanted a dsp 128 But too many shady deals right now. There are Too many that say it powers on so it’s good. But no way to test . yet they have guitars in the background of the picture. Hmmm. I’ll pass.
      So I just scored one of these for 200. A bit on the high end but it’s the only one besides the one for 400.00.
      And No intelliflex anywhere and the few that just sold went for 300. I would love to have one. But it Seems The market is all screwy right now. Good luck .
