Great podcast, Matt! I have known about Ben and Adam for some time, but not Nick - and it was good to get to hear from him too. I will definitely check out his work now, too!
An interesting take on the three you tubers and their motivations on hosting their YT channels - all respected clearly. I’ve not seen much of Ben before but Nick & Adam were true to their down to earth and unpretentious selves. Top guys! These guys stand out for all the right reasons! Most discerning viewers will see through the BS of the majority of RUclipsrs.
Well said, and I couldn't agree more. Your last sentence though - I agree that most discerning viewers would... but it doesn't explain why the biggest channels have the most BS. Maybe most folks just aren't very discerning? What do you think?
@ I’m sure you’re right Matt, my point really was that your guests were open and honest to their experiences and appraisal of YT as a platform, negatives and positives. Not all YTubers are as open about their motives… as for the question about discerning viewers?.. I guess that’s always going to be an unknown. As a 60+ full time photographer what do I know anyway .. the older I get the more bemusing things become in this world & profession😏. I enjoyed your podcast 👍
I heard that! I think I keep forgetting that 90% of the content is geared towards beginners (makes sense). There's a lot of really bad takes though and a ton of content that is designed to be "clickable" versus something that makes you think, question, improve. Hard to weed out quality. It's honestly a reason I why I don't spend much time consuming YT content myself.
Nice to hear that my favorite RUclipsrs have high frequency "CREATION" stress because I have high frequency "VIEWER" stress. I certainly prefer less frequent but more interesting and inspiring content. Thanks to all of you for your good work!
Great idea to interview these 3 great photographers. Ben is my absolute fav photographer on RUclips (and in general) and would not have discovered him without RUclips. Love Adam's work as well. Wasn't familiar with Nick but will definitely follow his work now. Thanks for sharing
what a refreshing anniversary video, and all without the “holy kraal” of the algorithm. and .... a great selection of people to talk to. I believe this is called quality. Kind regards from the “other end of the world” (Austria) Klaus
great discussion. I've long been a fan of these three, especially because of the heavy focus on the artistry rather than the endless barrage of gear reviews. No doubt I've improved dramatically and even started my own due to the influence of these three. awesome episode!
Yeah, I totally agree... and, I think they'd have a uphill battle ahead. I'm not saying my videos are anything special, but I've found growth here to be almost non-existent!
I've noticed your low subscriber count and find that weird. Photo interviews might not be the hottest topic for photographers in general, but you've many interesting episodes and I expected a lot more views and subscribers.
It's a bit of a mystery to me as well, hence some of my sarcasm during the episode about what generally seems to work on this platform (loud, shouty personalities that are obsessed with gear).
Nice interviews, Love these guys , watch them all especially Nick, to be honest I don't like gear talk, I'm not interested at all, but realise that sometimes companies sponsor YT's and they have to include it. Tips and tricks turn me right off as well . Agree with Nick it likes regularity, which is so exhausting. You have to make a living though. You guys have a wealth of experience and I enjoy watching you guys in the field that's what I like the most. 😊 keep it up
Right on, thanks Christine! I wish I had more time to record stuff from in the field... it's a crazy amount of work to do well... love your comment - thank you!
Hey Matt. Great content. A suggestion - while the emphasis on photographic vision is perhaps the most important content that your provide, please give some thought to a panel talking about the nature photography business - comparing today's income streama of, say, prints, workshops, stock, books, etc. Thanks!!
Hey Moris, Thanks for the feedback and suggestion. While I've not done a panel on that exact subject, per-se, it is certainly something that's been covered on several other episodes of the show. Probably could just control-f on this page and search for "business" and find some relevant episodes. I wish they were more well organized for you in that regard. It's on my to-do list. www.mattpaynephotography.com/page/f-stop-collaborate-and-listen/

Glad you enjoyed it! Nick is super cool and was on the show back around the same time you were!
@@MattPayne Wow, I missed that one! I'll have to go back and listen to it.
@@BrendaTharp honestly, it was one of my favorite recordings! www.mattpaynephotography.com/gallery/conversation-with-nick-carver/

Great podcast. Watched every minute and really enjoyed the perspectives shared. Thanks for this one, Matt!
Right on Craig! Thanks for listening / watching and for your support!!!!!
You have the trifecta here! Thank you! My three faves!
Mine too!

Thanks for chiming in and watching :)
1:18:30 I lived all my life in the dumpy desert and I love it! Nick has given me a greater appreciation for it through his work.
Right on! I think it can be easy to dismiss that part of the world but there's so much beauty to be found there!
Great podcast-great interview! Thank you, Matt.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great conversation.....thanks!

Great trio!
The best!
I follow several photography RUclips channels and I think even if they started RUclips today they'd stand out as special. Great interview!

Great tips.
Glad it was helpful!
I was hoping to get through an interview with Ben Horne without mentioning spandex.
Hahahahahahahahahah I TOTALLY get it!
