I went to Wilmington once to feeder calf sale just to hear Merlin. Before the sale I got the opportunity to meet him. I was elated. Several years later I ran into him at the State Fair and he remembered my name. He was truly the best and badly missed.
Merlin was definitely one of the best in the industry and influenced many young auctioneers in his day! Once heard him sell at the National Jersey sale in Columbia, S.C. back in the 70's and they lost power but he never missed a beat and continued without a microphone for 15 min. Thanks for posting and sharing music from one of the best!!
Merlin bought my 4-H hog at the Champaign County Fair back in 1979. It was my first year in 4-H, he had the sale, I had no bidders. Merlin bought it under the name of his farm - Chris Lee Farm. A good man and the best there ever was behind the mike.

The farm still lives I’m hoping to take it over and re name of the Merlin woodruf farm I’m his great grandson
Merlin had such a unique chant, very clear and loud. Todd can sell very well too. Merlin was one of the best as well as Ralph Wade and several others
Was a great man and grandfather
