- Zathura: A Space Adventure (or just Zathura) is a 2005 American science fantasy adventure film directed by Jon Favreau, and is loosely based on the illustrated book Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg, author of Jumanji. The film stars Josh Hutcherson, Jonah Bobo, Dax Shepard, Kristen Stewart, and Tim Robbins.
The film was shot in Los Angeles and Culver City, California and was released on November 11, 2005 by Columbia Pictures. Unlike the book, the film contains no Jumanji material and does not mention any Jumanji events. The film was however marketed as a spiritual sequel with varying statements of the tagline, "A new adventure from the world of Jumanji". Despite positive reviews from critics, Zathura was a box office disappointment.

I really love how the movie came out. You can really tell there are real scenes happening and not full CGI. Well done! 💓
I saw this movie in theaters when I was 6 years old. And I was amazed of the use of practical effects, it looked so real. Zathura has the best use of practical effects I have ever seen jn a family film and in a sci-fi film. CGI today is just cartoony.
I love how most of them say that the cgi at the time is kinda wack and unreliable. If only they saw what cgi looks like today
but look at all the practical effects being used here, its amazing
CGI today looks realistic but still has the fantasy feel to it.
Theyve done a pretty good job
CGI today looks better in detail but you can still tell its CGI and it still ages poorly. I can already see issues with thanos in Advengers end game. Practical effect just dont age as badly as CGI.
Who would have thought that he's the same guy who directed the jungle book which is almos entirely CGI
It was whack at the time and the movie would already be unwatchable had it been all cgi. We're also going to look back at the Avengers in 20 years and see how bad it looks compared to what we're used to by then.
This was my childhood; Thank you all❤
This movie came out in America in November 2005 and this movie came out in England in February 2006
Seems like they shot some of the scenes actually in space.😄
What are you doing at 2020?
@@Joaquinho What are you doing at 2022 is the real question. 🤔
What awesome movie man
It was videoing in August 2004 and this movie came out in November 2005 and it was a long time ago
I always thought this movie was taken in space but as I got older I found out of behide the sciences on movies
This movie deserves more love
CGI today has definitely improved.
@@crazyalarmstudios2012 It definitely improved. But sometimes rushed work like a lot of MCU films gives CGI a bad rep lol
The mix between cgi and practical effects done well is key to great visuals just like Zathura did and many other movies.
Really cool I thought this was real 😆
Jon is the director of zathura?? Oh my God!
And Elf with Will Ferrell!
Happy hogan himself

Love your channel but I wish you would upload in higher quality.
The source material i'm using is not of the highest quality, i've previously tried to convert the footage to HD (On your request on the Robocop clip) but i just dont see a diff in the quality. I'll have a look on the next uploads im working on after the Tremors uploads are all live.
Thank you for the reply back - I share your passion in the true magic of film making and love seeing the ins and outs of practical special effects - Old school but better in so many ways
it's happy from the mcu
