The Eastman is simply better than any Non-Historic reissue Gibson out there, and the Eastman is about 2-2.5k for the varnish one (the nicer one). You cant seriously think of Gibson anymore UNLESS you are willing to let go of 6-10 thousand dollars for a historic reissue, those guitars are absolutely amazing but the price is an abomination.

I have actually spent 3h in a guitar shop compaing the hell out of these two models. In the End it's a matter of taste. The Les Paul bites a little more in the mid and hi frequencys while the Eastman is very well balanced. Both are awsome when it comes to clarity and definition . I picked the Eastman simply because to me it felt better.

A fair comparison. When I compared the two, I found them to be neck and neck... pun intended. I will add, though, that there is always a lot of variances between individual guitars. I have two SB-59s. One sounds quite bright, and the other is quite dark. I like them both for different reasons.

Fun comparison. Proves again to me how different each individual
guitar can be. I have a 2020 SB59/v which I bought for it’s amazing feel to that beautiful aged violin varnish. Of course it sounds and plays brilliantly too. However objectively speaking, my SB59/v is very articulate, more HiFi than the earthy and richer Custom Shop LP’s I have. So it was interesting to hear you guys feel kind of the opposite about these two specimens. Going back to my comment about the Antique Varnish finish… it’s truly superb. Super thin and very smooth. Superior to the touch than any modern nitro I have experienced, including top shelf Fender/Gibson. Cheers 🍻

Really cool way to compare these guitars!! Both players have a good chemistry and were on the same page and were playing some very tasty guitar! I think the Les Paul had more bite and highs. Creamy is a good way to describe the Eastman. I have seen more than a few Eastmen SB59 videos wondering how the tone really compares, and this really cemented my thoughts. The Eastmen is a fantastic guitar, but is not as sharp as the Les Paul. Eastmen might want to experiment with different pickups to bring it even closer or at least to give it a more biting tone on the bridge pickup! Good stuff!!

It would be interesting to see both guitars with the same pickups set at the same height.. to hear the differences in the actual guitars.. l have a SB59v and a "17" LP Standard.. the differences are pretty big, the Burst buckets vs Lollar Emperials is not a very fair comparison, it's like comparing a Corvette w 500hp to a Lamborghini with 500hp.. there are obvious cost differences however most might not see the differences.. enjoyed your playing.. the left was a bit louder in your demo which l believe adds to the "clarity" you spoke of.. l think a speaker sounds muddier low power driven vs higher driven.. If you're a professional/gigging musician, where image counts and you can expense the cost on your taxes, then get a Les Paul. Otherwise, there's absolutely no reason to spend so much more $$ on a guitar that is, at best, a marginal improvement in terms of sound. The cheapest R9 on Reverb as of this writing is $4900 and the Eastman is < $2000. Aside from the headstock, is the R9 2.5 times better than the SB59? No.

For better impact, I like to use "250x" lol. My only complaints with the Eastman is the 1 11/16" nut width, the Jazz humbucker (please use two '59s, prob solved), and if you are going to have your spec read "flamed maple top" please use wood that has more than two lines of figure and basically looks like a plain top (seems I see this a lot). As a company who came to fruition building violins, cellos, etc...figured maple shouldn't be prohibitively rare or expensive. Kudos to the 8lb spec, that same spec costs thousands for a comparitive Gibson. Also kudos for the aged varnish which looks and likely sounds better than any Murphy aged lacquer, which again, costs multiple thousands at Gibson. In fact, it amazes me that $6 - 7K or more Les Pauls somehow continue to fly off the shelfs? Who is buying these guitars? I guess as long as that is happening, why change lol?
