The idea of going cher clueless on your wardrobe is honestly so bigbrained i'm gonna have to give it a try myself..combining clothes like that seems so much easier!!
Hey Kristen, I have bought one top off you on depop (satin blue, floral, short sleeve blouse) if you ever miss it message me, I'd love to swap it for whatever you don't wear that season. or straight-up give it back to you because I understand EXACTLY how you feel about parting with things you didn't expect to regret.
Sewing is hard but so necessary for thrifting. It’s impossible to find items that fit perfectly, especially if you’re petite like me. If you’re not vibing with a thrifted item you bought you won’t wear it and that remains sad in the closet. It takes a concerted effort to make it yours. ♥️ thanks for sharing your cute wardrobe with us. You do inspire. ✨
i got inspired lately because of your "cult-like fashion industry" video to have more fun with the clothes i wear and i might want to start learning how to sew, so this is perfect! id love to see more fashion videos
Sigh. I too still think about items I thrifted 10-15 years ago that I got rid of in my minimalist phase circa 2015 that I would LOVE to have right now.
16.00 This is my life. I always get soo excited about sewing projects and then I actually start and realize I still suck at sewing and it takes months (sometimes literally).
Paaaaah I laughed so hard, you sound like me talking to my cats, “I can’t stop the rain darling, I know you hate it” 🤣 That tension sewing problem has plagued me for years until literally last week. I decided I was going to sew for a week everyday and the second day it something clicked and suddenly I got the tension right. Part of it is pulling on the fabric, if you pull too hard it messes with the rhythm of the needles. It’s also partly the tension wheel, thread the machine like normal but stop before the needle, pull the thread through with your hands and if it slips right through then the problem is more likely to be pulling on the fabric. If it gets stuck even on the lowest setting then the machine has to be serviced. I have a vintage singer and you have to be the machine whisperer to get it to work, yours is modern one through so a service would do it haha good luck! The struggle is real but it’s worth it when you finally get that stitching right 💃
Always meant to style my wardrobe like Cher, too! Just to know what I can wear and how I can wear it. I might do it too this year! However, atm I dont't really like many of my clothes. Vinted seems too overpriced sometimes for the matter of the fact that it's partly worn, bad quality fast fashion pieces. Best things are still found in the thrift shop itself !
Very inspiring video! And about sewing: I like following a good pattern, easy peasy. But altering is a whole other thing. I do it bc it's often necessary for thrifted things, but it's a pain
Whew you are inspiring!! I’ve started learning to sew so that I can thrift and also alter my clothing. Also it reminds me of my grandma. It’s so hard!! I gave up for a while but I’m getting back to it. It’s such a great skill. I already saved one shirt by sewing the strap back on! I love your approach to style and I’m trying to also find my own style rather than focusing on trends.
I'm fascinated by people trying to make a capsule wardrobe bc they usually end up with more pieces I have in my normal wardrobe :D Like, I didn't try, my family is not minimalistic, it's just what it is 🤷🏼♀️ Also, no judgement! Sometimes I definitely wish I had more clothes.
This inspires me to do something similar, because of sensory issues with a lot of my clothes (hi fellow neurodivergent folks :D), I need 'new' clothes, but have no funds (so no thrifting). BUT I basically forgot I have some leftover fabric I once thrifted and a few clothes I can repair! No capsule (because unpredictable weather here and also not for me), but I do like using my color palette to give some direction. Everyone's different in that. I like that :)
I share the regret of giving clothes.. even if I gived them to friends/family... now I keep them for a fair amount of time before I am sure I won't wear them anymore... big problems here :))
There is so much more to sewing than sewing. Checking the pattern for fit, ironing every seam so the thread can sink into the material. I hate seam ripping thrifted clothing. I know it is more wasteful, but I just cut the seams. Like everything else sewing takes practice. And if you can, buy a refurbished high end sewing machine from a local dealer who gives a warranty rather than the cheapest machine you can find. I have often wondered about these 30 item capsule wardrobes, because they might lead to running half empty cycles on your washing machine and probably even depending on dryers instead of line drying.
I dont get rid of clothes anymore at all unless they dont fit me and i would have to lose a substantial amount of weight, like when is was 8 kg less and i am still somewhat thin so i dont want to lose weight at the moment.I have specific styles now that i like and i dont want to change anything and i do t want more clothes even if i could have more of specific things for practicality. Those clothes were also quite old and they had been worn out on the butt so i just kept them to be used as fabrics.I am also somewhat of a hoarder with fabrics which can become very usefull when you like making things and they require large amounts of random fabrics that dont matter because you cannot see the inside.
For your sewing machine problem: have you tried to adjust the metal thingy? it has a small screw and you can losen or tigthen it with a pin. The way to see if its good is if you take the thread and pull on it, while holding the metal thingy with the small plastic spool in it, in the other hand. If you pull the thread it should be not to smooth (a bit of tension but giving in) and the small spool schould go counter clock wise, if I remember correctly (If this makes sense, sorry I don't know the therms in english)
Please be careful with tension, especially the one in the bobin case. I've always been advised to not touch it because if you mess it up then it's virtually impossible to turn the screw back to its original position. Most of the time the problems with the stitching are related to the stitch length and having to change the needle. Also, you can always check for stray threads that might be stuck inside.
@@marta_sanders strange my teachers always told me to check the tension, but maybe its, because in fashion school we learnd it on industrial machines? I guess it depends on what kind of teacher you have. Edit: its called a bobin case: thank you its hard to translate specific terms from german to english
Sewing is only fun for me when it feels creative, but also when I have time to fuck it up over and over again and just enjoy the process of working it out Sewing with any kind of deadline is like pulling teeth ahahah
My era of the giant shirt has commenced. I will majorly wearing giant Cotton or linen shirts with jeans and copious amounts of jewelry. Can you also do more videos on depop i don’t know why but the algorithm hates me and everything I get recommends is extremely ugly 🙈🤢
i feel like i have a clothes problem, when i saw the result of ur wardrobe all i could think was ONLY THESE DRESSES OMG , i need to rearrange my clothes :(
The only negative thing I could say about a jumpsuit is once you take it off to use the bathroom you are essentially sitting on the toilet in your underwear kind of questioning the life choices that have led you to this moment.
@@KristenLeo i know, i almost never iron my clothes, unless the shirt looks really bad, but the thing is a lot of summer fabrics look bad on camera if not ironed, especially if they are already second-hand.
This is the amount of clothes I have for all seasons combined 🥲 I don’t want to buy anything new because I am a designer and I can sew very well so I want to make it myself but I don’t have enough time and not even enough money to buy fabrics or thrift since you don’t get paid a fair wage being a fashion designer. Lol I hate the fashion industry…
