  • We have a short window of opportunity to finally get some hay cut before rain possibly moves in.......... So, we go for it. This field is notorious for fast drying in less-than-ideal conditions. I cut and ted the hay on the same day. Let's see if it works out.
    We are a small 40 acre direct-to-consumer livestock farm located in Western NY. We provide pasture raised beef, pork, chicken & eggs to our local community. We practice sustainable land practices that utilize natural methods to keep our soils/pastures healthy and our animals happy.
    I am the 2nd generation to live on this piece of property after my parents purchased it in 1978. As a child we were not a working farm. But there were dairy farms surrounding us. So naturally I was hooked with farming since I saw my first tractor. As time went on, I worked for a couple of these farms and that only fueled my love of agriculture. In 2019 I was able to move back home as my parents were ready to downsize and I was ready to try my hand at farming. Stacy and logan share the same love of farming as I do. Stacy growing up on her family's dairy farm and logans exposure of farming/tractors at a very young age. Join us on this journey and see where the farm life takes us.

    We have a Farmall 460G with a wide front and fast hitch. It used to cut a lot of hay when we had a haybine but now my brother has a disc bine and needs the 766 for that. Brought back some memories. Thanks!

      Good memories I'm guessing. 😊 Thank you for sharing your story. I like the combination of the Farmall 460 and the 469 haybine. But I would like to eventually upgrade myself to a 9 ft disc bine. But there are many other things in line ahead of that. Thank you for watching the channel. Its greatly appreciated.

    Great video. New subscriber here. I wouldn't have done it that way but it ain't my money, it ain't my time, and I wasn't there to supervise.

      I guess you could say "That's some Pig!" if it's travelled that far around the USA, or your son had to travel that much to win it and pick it up! Might have been cheaper to buy one local from the sound of things but I hope it all works out for you and yours!

    we had the exact hay tedder that you have there , do you use it to row up as well as i seen it has the slow gear on it where the PTO attaches to the tedder we always used it but it does not do the best of jobs if in heavy grass , love seeing one in action did hours with ours and it was on a IH B276 , we use to make about 8000 bales a year with straw for 70 milking cows and the followers , can't wait to see it baled up , Thanks for a great vid

      No I have never tried to use it as a rake. I did know that it was capable of doing it but from guys I've talked to that have done it said the pretty much the same thing u did that it doesn't work the best. Maybe I should try it sometime just for the heck of it and see what it does. Maybe some lighter 2nd cutting hay. Would be curious to see how it worked. Thanks for watching our channel. We greatly appreciate it.

    How many hp is the 460? Great video keep them coming!!

      They were claimed to be some were in the 45-50 hp range. Not really sure if that was with the gas or diesel engine. I have a friend with a tractor dyno. I should hook it up sometime and test it just to see what it actually has. I'm sure the gas and the diesel were not that much different in horsepower. But the diesel was far superior on torque and fuel economy. Thanks for watching the channel. We will keep em coming as long as people watch and enjoy them.

    Looks like just a little bit of fertilizer (organic - even chicken manure) would have given you twice the hay! Just saying

    • @Cobbhillfarms
      @Cobbhillfarms  9 дней назад +3

      Yup I can agree fertilizer would increase the yield on that field. That field is less than an acre in size and I only cut it as a favor to the landowner. She would rather see it cut and baled then just run a brush mower over it a couple times a year. It's too nice a stuff to just brush mow it. So, dollars and cents wise tell me it's not worth the investment. I save all my composted manure for the larger higher yielding fields on the farm. Besides chicken manure is expensive around here. Great suggestion though. Thanks for watching. Greatly appreciated.
