    QQQ returned around 30% in that same period for just holding it (truly passive). So a comparison against automated selling of shares (passive income) would be interesting

    Everyone’s been preaching investing lately as a source of passive income but with a 70 hour weekly jobs and limited knowledge of financial instruments, how can I actually stay on top of things, I see every RUclips video saying BUY BUY! But when and how do I sell for profit at the right time?

      Well all i know is that you cannot go wrong taking profit at near high. No one ever went broke taking a 10% loss. It's best if you consult with a fiduciary advisor to get informed buying & selling decisions

    • @RickWatson-xu6gw
      @RickWatson-xu6gw 6 месяцев назад +4

      De-risk your portfolios, shore up your core holdings, and take some profits while balancing your portfolio allocations. I’d also suggest you go with a managed portfolio, but even those don’t perform so well, so it’s best you reach out to a proper fiduciary to guide you, that’s what works for my spouse and I. We've made over 80% capital growth minus dividends.

    Would be nice if you also explain the risk of this strategy, since this only shows the upside. You still have quite a significant amount of capital at risk.

    • @Concatenate
      @Concatenate 6 месяцев назад +7

      I can explain the risk. If you're selling puts and end up getting assigned to buy the shares, the stock/security could tank. So trying to make money selling covered calls on those shares might put a dent in the capital you have set aside. Covered calls, same deal, if the security is tanking you're not going to make much premium if you're trying to sell at or above the strike where you bought the shares. So, it's tanking AND you can't make much premium. Yeah, that sucks. Hope I explained that.

    • @Anshul-nc4he
      @Anshul-nc4he 6 месяцев назад +3

      There is not much risk associated with it u just need to work with the instruments which u think won't go zero in future that's it

    • @rogergeyer9851
      @rogergeyer9851 5 месяцев назад

      @Anshul-nc4he: If you'd been put the QQQ's in 2000 near the top, they sank by over 80 percent by the bottom, and didn't hit new highs again for roughly 15 years (working from memory here).
      That's a SUBSTANTIAL amount of risk, which isn't surprising given the high volatility of tech, and even a big cap tech. index like QQQ.
      Just saying "there is not much risk" is MEANINGLESS unless you quantify WHY you think that. I'd say there is SUBSTANTIAL risk, as you'd need to let the funds sit for a LONG time and just gain a tiny dividend, if tech. stocks have a big bear market -- assuming you don' want to take any realized loss.
      I actually prefer to do something like OWN some QQQ, sell calls against it on rallies, and sell a put against it on meaningful pullbacks. If you have both an OTM call and OTM put sold, only one of them can end up ITM.
      But regardless of what you do, there is some risk, and you should be able to quantify it IF you know what you're doing.

It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. Even better is to sell each month at the beginning of the year. The end months will pay 2500 and once you reach a year you'll earn that monthly if you continually open the 12 month position upon current expiration. You will need more capital but the same strategy works on a quality stock you would want to own long term. 😊

    • @toby6180
      @toby6180 6 месяцев назад

      "more capital" is right - to the tune of 12 X, or in this example around $480,000. Even for those few who have that much on hand, it would be a significant risk to put on one stock or ETF. If you do it on margin, your risk is even higher.

    • @jeffgoggin1394
      @jeffgoggin1394 6 месяцев назад

      @@toby6180 It wouldn't be any more capital used on a $30 stock... I don't see why it would be more risk to put all $30k into the Qs vs a single stock? And you would be getting much better returns after each month especially since market direction is historically up. It would be like dollar cost averaging but with an additional discount of time premium. I actually run this exact system on AAPL with weeklies 8 weeks out. Since I'm past 8 weeks I'm getting basically $6 weekly premium for risk instead of the $2.50 for just running an ATM put one week out. When assigned the shares I sell an ATM call 8 weeks out and just keep it all going. You don't have to go that many weeks and it doesn't have to be an expensive stock. You may want to skip earnings weeks though.
