    Hi Robin!
    Absolutely fantastic video😎 thanks creating it and sharing your valuable knowledge.
    I’ll will be definitely buying a copy of your lighting course for sure👍
    Since you asked…
    I bought the FlashQ 20 mkII on your recommendation, way back in the day. The small transmitter appealed to me immediately. It’s the best flash to meet my needs, at the moment. I have experienced a lot of miss-fires when using this flash in the Melbourne CBD. I have always thought it had something to do with Bluetooth interference in the City of Melbourne, as I have other Bluetooth devices that occasionally have issues in the city.
    I own a few Godox units as well, including the 350. I managed to melt a Godox flash head years ago (not the 350), firing my flash too often 😙at an event and not allowing the unit to cool down between bursts, overall I’ve found Godox to be pretty reliable, particularly the transmitter to receiver connection. I love the new Godox trigger’s size. I have a copy too. I’ve fallen in love with “off camera flash” and enjoy using a GoPro magnetic mount in the street to hold the little flashQ 20 MkII it’s been fun shooting this way. I just which the flash didn’t misfire so often.
    The most reliable speed lights I have ever used are the Nikon speed lights (built solid) they have built-in heat protection in my copies as well. I found them to be very robust and reliable, particularly the SB-800.
    I’m not shooting Nikon presently, so to connect the Nikon speed lights wirelessly to other branded cameras, I always use a device called a “Flash Wave II” Radio trigger-set, which are incredibly reliable, the problem though is that this setup has two many parts and all the gear becomes bulky in the street. I think there’s an opportunity for a manufacturer to produce a extremely lightweight, reliable speed light kit with lots of mounting options, something pocketable that has a miniature transmitter and the capabilities to meet present day needs. Everything seems to be either too big and bulky or unreliable. Personally, I don’t like using Bluetooth devices. I think that’s a floor in connectivity in big cities. I’d prefer radio connected flash units.
    Thanks again,
    Auf Wiederseresehen

      Hi John! The misfire issues are a problem of the flash itself. It's frustrating when you miss a potentially great shot.
      With the Godox I've been very happy so far and I've used it very excessively. 😆

      @@therealsirrobin Well then, it’s not due to Bluetooth interference after all. Thank you Robin. ✌️

    I rarely used my flashes, and my first TT350 died for no apparent reason after it sat idle for more than a year. And the second copy I have now would not function without a few violent pat every time I try to turn it on.
    For its size, power, and price, it's really a very good option. I really hope it's a problem with my luck but not the build quality of the universally acclaimed Godox, because I still couldn't find a good alternative. And I am still pondering whether to get the version with the rechargeable battery and the new X3 trigger after these two failures.
    Robin's style of photography will be the perfect test for the TT350. Looking forward to the long-term review.

    A couple of years ago I tried to buy a Q20II, but I kept it for a week and returned it. Very nice in size and brilliant in many ways, but not reliable and refresh times too slow.
    I also had the TT350 in Canon version, very nice and much more reliable, but again, refresh times too slow for my taste. I think that if you want to stay on these dimensions, the V350 with lithium battery is a better choice. Currently I have a larger model (V860-III), you can shoot for hours and hours, and with a spare battery you can be safe for a whole day, maybe more, I think it's the same for the V350.

    • @therealsirrobin
      @therealsirrobin  3 месяца назад

      I have both TT350 & V350 and they are working very well. The recycle time on the V350 is slightly shorter but battery life is way better.

  • @Caballeroshot

    I love my Q20 paired with my Leica Q it's unbeatable. I get why you'd need to upgrade, the volume of images you shoot has to be exponentially so much higher than the casual shooter like the rest of us. The long recycle time is understandable, it runs on 2 AA batteries, and surely that's one way to help it cool down before the next shot. It doesn't feel pro-grade but it sure hasn't let me down yet.

    • @therealsirrobin
      @therealsirrobin  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes, for casual shooting it's alright but once you miss shots it gets annoying. For that to happen you don't need to take a lot of photos. I know a lot of other photographers who had issues with the Flash Q20 and moved on to alternatives.

    I'm also on my third Q20 because it keeps burning up. I've been using it less nowadays and will gravitate to my Dlux 8 with its tiny flash for the very little flash photography I need. BTW, The Godox X3 Leica version has been available for a few weeks now.

      Pretty much all the Q20s I see in the streets have burning marks. It's not a bug, it's a feature.
      The video was filmed around 6 weeks ago and at the time there wasn't a Leica version available. The one I am using is serving me very well this far. I'll share my experience in a few weeks time since I've learned some important things about it.

      @@p6till8s it doesn’t - it’s specific to the Dlux 8 and the Panasonic camera it’s based on (it does also not work on other LUMIX cameras except that one).

    The Q20 doesnt work with my Leica MP, but it works on my M6 and M10. The recycle rate of the Q20 is very irritating. I ended up ditching it and used a cheap Lomo flash. The Lomo flash isnt adjustable but once you figure out the range and camera settings, just set your camera and forget about it.

      @therealsirrobin  3 месяца назад +1

      Having other units nearby only results in the possibility that one trigger triggering other Flash Q20 flashes. The misfires are not caused by that.

    Thanks for this. Just sold my sf20 to find a more reliable solution for my m6 too. With the tt350 are there indicators on the lcd with distance / aperture / iso values? Because i found this especially useful on the sf20 without having to calculate the guide number. I already own the godox system so this would be great to have

      @@therealsirrobin But what's so strange and amazing about it? When you use an even bigger professional lamp than Godox TT350, with a professional controller, you'll have 10x less frustration and 10x more benefits than using TT350. That's obvious. The advantage of Q is primarily its size, and in addition, in such a tiny size it offers unprecedented functionality. In fact, it's the only lamp of its kind in the world. You probably didn't expect such a small lamp to light up a football stadium. For God's sake, what are we talking about? It's like taking a gun and complaining that it's weak because you can't destroy a tank with it. Give it a rest.

    All flashguns overheat when shot at full power repeatedly and this shortens their lifetime and this also reduces recycle time. Not news specially for a small unit!
    If you want more power and resilience get a more powerful (and larger) unit as you did. But man, this sounds as an advertisement.

    • @therealsirrobin
      @therealsirrobin  3 месяца назад

      Of course, they'll all overheat but the Flash Q20 does it even when used moderately. I was using mine usually at 1/4 or lower. It's a design flaw and maybe that's also why the recycle times are this slow. Otherwise these things would break even faster.
      Haven't had any of these issues on the Godox even after a couple of thousand shots.
