That stuff works great! My college roommate had a severely tarnished little brass trinket box. I used brasso on it - two years later it still looked brand new. 💕
Totally love the brass bin and the little treasures inside. ❤ I hope that you are happy and doing well. Just love you and the kittens 🐈⬛. Blessings to you and yours 💕
Baking soda and vinegar is very good at removing baked on dirt on pans so it might work for brass. Spraying vinegar on a surface helps to prevent the return of mold.
The fairy would be a lovely addition to the green house . Also, wait till the chest dries thoroughly , then Ajax or bar keepers friend (liquid) work wonders. Loved today’s video.
Beautiful finds 😊. Love the coal box. Some brass cleaner and it will look even better. Not sure, but I think there are mould wood treatments ie liquid/varnish type treatmentS.. for after the bleach treatment. Yes more vlogs on car boots etc.. I love Mr Cs car boot videos to. Why wouldn't someone want to see your smiling face! Been following your for 5yrs!.. you always cheer me up! Thank you.
Great finds! The coal box looks nice with a little bit of dark on the pattern to make it look vintage. If it were shiny it would look too new. Always enjoy your videos!
Hello Catherine. I am one of your more senior followers and I look forward to watching your videos each week. I love your honest and no nonsense approach to life and I wish you success and happiness in all that you do. Best wishes to you and your family during this challenging time. Shirley
Thank you for showing us your thrift makeovers! Thrifting is one of my favourite things to do, and I'm always curious to see what others find in different parts of the world! Here in Metro Vancouver area and surrounds, we are very lucky to have many great thrift stores! 😀
It's amazing what an old toothbrush and some elbow grease can achieve. Sometimes dirty old pieces can be overlooked and what treasures you have found. You have a good eye for finding nice pieces. Hope all is well with your mother. See you on the next one.
Here in the states my mom (1960's) had a brass wood keeper box, much like your find. I thnk my sister has it now. Im in my 70's and so much of what i grew uo with as the.."that time deco" is now hunted for. Thank you for sharing. Also your family is in our prayers.😊
Hello Catherine. I do love a cleaning video. My old toothbrushes always go to a cleaning project. Not just for cleaning teeth, ha ha. My mom had a brass box. Can't think for the life of me what happened to it. Your furry helpers are getting bigger and lovelier by the day. Thank you Catherine.
My daughter has just picked up a brass coal box from her local tip shop ,with a ship on it and is doing it up for her son’s 3rd birthday as a treasure chest ..he’s mad about ships and Pirates x
There is a nice place on the edge of Portarlington called Solas. It's a garden centre and inside there is a section with like irishy things like old guinness signs and old irish coins framed. There's fairy garden ornaments and a cafe made with shipping containers, sorta! 😅 I like the carrot cake 😊 The furniture used in the cafe is all secondhand, it's pretty cool. Then on the other side of town, is a wee fairy trail to find at Derryounce Lake ❤
My husband and I love antiques and antiquing…I really enjoy seeing what treasures can be found in other parts of the world, so your thrift store find videos are much appreciated 💗
I grew up in South Africa but live in Australia now. First thing...Brasso. Second thing; Lyles Golden Syrup...just because. As SA was a British colony until 1961 (but not always I may add) many products stick in our minds. ❤
What lovely figurines you brought back to life Catherine. I hope the little coal box turns out good as you did a good job but if the extererior is brass than try a good brass cleaner. I know as i used to be cleaning my mother's brass collection. Anyway thank you for sharing and well done!
All of the ornaments cleaned up nicely. Pretty little fairy. I was surprised you were able to clean the box. I would leave it in the green house for a while so any little spirits are set free. Good video. Thanks
I love your love of giving things a second life. I have that same passion. And yes, as you know from my comment last week I love watching someone cleaning things 😂😂😂. It’s so soothing. And I checked out that paint cleaning guy you told me about and it’s amazing. 😂
Sweet video, and those little figurines, it is so satisfying to give them a good scrub and new life and purpose. The fairy and little house can make lovely addition to small fairy garden. Also, figurines like these make quirky and fun objects with different purpose. I get these from charity shops all the time to make interesting candleholders and jewelery holders or even trinket dishes, that are unique. Get a candle cup, drill and insert in a strategic place on the figurine, so it looks intentional as if it was always meant to be there, spray black and then use brass, antique gold, or silver Rub'n buff to create the illusion of metal. Last summer, i found two figurines made to look like busts, one with a hound head and one with the head of a fox. Now I have a quirky set of hound & fox candlestick holders.
I've used white vinegar to successfully clean mold off wood pieces and it worked wonderfully on an old leather chair, too. Another commenter suggested putting the coal box in your greenhouse, which would be a pretty storage piece for seed-starting items.
I honestly think that the dirtier the better because its the thrill of getting it all clean and having the vision of what it could look like! Plus its usally cheaper because the person selling doesnt value it! Some of my best finds have been from carboots or out of skips! My recent one is a big pewter tub for plants that I found thrown out....i cant wait to plant some bulbs in for next year! Love your videos ❤
I didn't know the brass items came as a set. I have the magazine rack. My Mam bought it in Newcastle upon Tyne before 1981, which is when she passed. It's been here in Alberta with me since then. My Dad made a brass fender with little padded top boxes at the ends when I was a bairn in the 1950s. We kept the shoe polishing stuff in one and the fire starter stuff in the other and I sat on them to keep warm. He was a whitesmith and made anything you wanted from metal. Every one of these little treasures is bringing back memories. I love them. 🤗 ❤
Hi Catherine it was satisfying watching the dirty water run away everything came up lovely I love the earthen ware it was lovely,I’d love to see you do a car boot and turning stuff around, have a lovely weekend 😊
I grew up in Belgium and for as long as I can remember (62yrs) my mother had one of these brass coal buckets. I have it now and it could do with a good clean. 😊
Hi nice to see you. I love finding old stuff. When my son was young he dug up a chamber pot and an old crock water bottle he was so excited with his finds.
Perfect video to watch after spending several hour cleaning old windows thoroughly, for several hours on a ladder, even scraping tiny old paint spots a many on both sides off all the panes off glass. Exhausted but satisfied with the results after several buckets off very dirty water. 😊 Now I got your video as a treat before I fall asleep.
Ive been soaking and scrubbing an old Avon brass trivet Ive had for 36 years. Its taken 4 cleaners i had under the sink, vinegar and an old toothbrush. Finally a Mr Clean eraser did it.
Howdy from Texas, we enjoy both seeing and hearing you. Your videos provide a nice welcomed break. My teenagers have also started to drink hot tea. Thanks for welcoming us into your home.
Catherine i remember this coal bucket so well, my mam and dad had it beside the fireplace and the magazine stand also, you brought me right back to my childhood in the 80's😆
Brasso is the thing for us in the Netherlands, it will give your brass a beautiful shine, you did a great job girl, tomorrow we are going to renovate the master bedroom, with new wallpaper a beige/brown small stripe and new paint on the door and bed. Hope it’s going to be nice, looking out to restyling the room after it’s done 😊 that’s the nice part .
Hi Catherine. Try the car boot sale in Tallaght on Saturday or Ballymun on Sunday. Phibsboro is nice for charity shops - the have NCBI, Oxfam and Enable ireland + a new Enable Ireland furniture store, + a Vintage shop... all minutes from each other. And plan your trip for the Ziegest flea market once a month and you can hit them all on a Saturday, lots of places for lovely food too!

Hi from British Columbia Canada. I purchased a brass box in the late 80’s at a yard sale for about $10. Sure wish I had kept it. As always, your video as are a pleasure to watch.

Our entire home has refinished furniture, mostly oak, that I found in poor condition at antiques auctions. I love stripping the wood and letting it breathe again. And hey, of course we want to see your beautiful face again, you are sunshine! Best to your mom. ❤
There are toothbrushes specifically for dentures that are excellent for cleaning, they have bristles on both sides, one is more like a pointy brush, very useful for hard to reach places.

Is the brass box haunted 🤔🤔🤔 a couple of you noticed a face when I was cleaning the inside 😁 can you see it? 👻👻👻👻
Oh my yes😱
I saw 2 faces! Girl - sprinkle that thing with holy water!!!

Bar keepers friend is a life saver for cleaning brass and copper. Works a treat and saves on elbow grease!
Thanks for sharing that! ❤
Yes it's great and super satisfying!!!
I don’t know if they still make it but here in America, they had a brass cleaner called Brasso, worked wonderful on shining up brass
I am in Scotland, we still have Brasso x
