Muscle Car Of The Week Video #72: 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A
#musclecar #v8tv
www.musclecaroftheweek.com - This episode of Muscle Car Of The Week highlights a 1-year only 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A, the street version of the Trans Am race car Challenger T/A. Of the 2399 built, this is one of 1410 automatic cars, and one of around 50 to wear a triple black paint scheme. These cars have the looks and performance to make Muscle Car fans drool, and this one is as sinister as they come. The 340 Six Pack is a screamer, and the racy looks are unique to the 1970 T/A.

They just don’t make cars so beautiful anymore. This is poetry in motion.
The most beautiful and badass car ever created
Drive it, drive it, gas it up and drive it more.
Yeah! Same here.
Black on black on black! Best color for these cars, by far.
That's not just muscle car of the week dude, that awesome beauty is the rod of the century, and its hotter than hell
If I had one i would take care of it clean it etc etc of taking care of it but would also DRIVE IT HARD not to hard BUT HARD and i would drive it like its ment to be driven what it was made for!
If i had the money i'd diffinetely buy a 1970 Challenger T/A
Absolutely beautiful. 340 kick ass small block
I owned an orange T/A, automatic. It was presented in one of the Mopar Muscle magazines several years back with the current owner. It had 4k miles on it when I purchased it in 1970. I sold it 11 years later for 3k. I love that car.
Best. Small block. Ever.
I love the black on black.
Dodge made only 29 black on black TA's.Don't know how many of those were triple black.I've seen 1 with red interior and several with white interior. All are very rare with 1 leaving the factory with white interior and white vinyl top.
My Dream Car, Dodge Challenger !
The 70 T/A is my favorite Challenger ever made. I really like all the Trans Am race cars...the AAR Cuda, Z28 Camaro, Boss 302 Mustang/Cougar, and AMC Javelin T/A. Small block powered muscle cars that could run with most big blocks and could do much more than just go fast in a straight line. Awesome ride
Little known fact. TheTA hood scoop is an upside down version of the P51 Mustang belly scoop.
Had one brand new / I think I paid $5300 / buried speedo few times/ still have lead in my foot
The best Small Block ever............ Thanks for showing!!!
I just love side exhaust. 😎🇺🇸
yeah those exhausts LOOK awesome as hell but trust me they suck when you are driving a MOPAR with them. If you stop at a light or whatever all the exhaust comes up the side right into your face and into the car interior then you smell like exhaust fumes for the rest of the day. I have an AAR cuda. I read an article once pertaining to these TA and AAR cars with this exhaust and the author claimed that even back when these cars were built there were laws against exhausts like these and he stated it was a miracle that Chrysler got this exhaust system past the corporate lawyers and into production...
If it was my car not only would I drive it, but I would park it in front of my house and stand out there shouting " THATS MY CAR HELL YEAH THATS MY CAR!"
This car stuck in my head after seeing this video.
Drive it and LOVE it 😍
my brother-in-law had one; it was the olive drab (?) color, with a 4 speed.
he used to trade me the use of my ragged out 1964 Dodge Polara when he went out drinking - better to crash the beater! :)
I most definitely got the better end of that deal!
I would be rambling around on weekends , enjoying that beautiful example of American muscle car.
Man, that’s one great looking Mopar ‼️🧨
I love this guy's ability to explain these muscle cars. Great channel.
I would drive it every day
Well I'd take the thing for a really long drive. I love the poverty caps, but preferably I'd go ralleys with some n50's (295 50 15) out back and play some deep purple on the 8 track. I'm only 39 and 15/16 so I remember some cool stuff growing up in auburn wa with Seattle international raceway in my backyard. Cars are a giant part of who I am and mopars are my soul.
Very cool!
انها سيارات رائعه جداجدا👍
I'm making a model 1970 Challenger T/A from scratch out of wood. I referenced your previous video of the pink one many times while working on it.
Nice narrative on the TA Challenger. Another first on this car was both front and rear sway bars that helped make this car handle far better than other muscle cars such as the Hemi Challenger.
dave tweedy I would think all the T/A themed cars like Boss 302 and Z28 would have big anti sway bars.
I owned 2 of 'em, a orange one & white one a auto & almost 100% factory. The Ol' Orange one got worked on n was wicked. Had grrrreat time in both. Kick my butt these days, I truly miss 'em.
Beautiful car
WAY...WAY...WAY cooler than the new T/A' s MOPAR will build...WAY better looking too.
Spot on... check it out ! www.cardomain.com/ride/2175616/1970-dodge-challenger/
The 340 small block is sweet. Those heads on a 360... can't open the pinch point enough it seems.
Few years earlier mid season 1968, , the TA course , Pontiac has a dominant with the firebird package that evolved into the Trans Am, Hence, copied by Plymouth T/A, followed
"TA" series".
Cars and Tires etc.
Give credit to Pontiac boys that made a proven machine that set this specific ERA ICON Called "T/A".
CAN AM and the likes..
I like the gold one with the 383 magnum and the slap stick shifter
+buck rowley Never heard of a cool car with an automatic
+Big Bill Doyle Haha aww come on now there were plenty. The Dual Gate 442s were awesome, along with the Buick GNXs. There were some automatic A12 Roadrunners and Super Bees that were some of (if not the) fastest factory muscle cars built. Even faster than their 4-speed counterparts. And they were column shift at that! Haha
I do agree though, nothing beats a stick for fun on the street. And I have lots of respect for anyone who drag races a stick in serious competition. Automatics practically take all the skill out of drag racing
I have always wanted a T/A in Panther Pink
Wow that's clean. Love the hood.
Excellent presentation, Kevin!
Back in those days cars had coils springs, and some auto parts stores sold molded plastic pieces to raise the back end to give the car that racey look as this guy mentions. I used to make those same pieces out of wood to put in the springs of my fathers 1967 Buick Special. Those wood pieces wouls split and fall out. I would find, and friends of mine would find those wood pieces all over town. We would laugh our asses off at how many of them that were all over town. I just kept making more.
I'd give anything to go back in time.
Supper Nice and a thumbs up liked.
I never seen one solid black like that I. Would check it out real good match numbers odd
Drive the heck out of it!👍🏻😎
I would Drive it Friday through Sunday and holidays
I would drive from Crescent City, the shitty little coastal town on the north coast of CA, where I have been living for the last 40yrs and drive back home to Brockton, MA.
COOL CAR!
If I ever had the opportunity to own 1 I’d like it to be plum crazy purple with the flat black stripes and hood and the 340 6 pack …. I’d drive it like a everyday car should be driven the only mods I’d probably do to it is have that holly sniper fuel injection system installed on it and a set of headers amd flowmasters super 44s on it
Bought one brand new/ drove it
Daily/ buried speedo a few times, still have lead in my foot from back then /
I am a mopar fan, my first car was a dodge coronet 318 c.i. if i had that car u have i would drive it every day. And love every minute of it.
I would love to purchase one of these in my garage specially street racing. I love it.😊👍
If I had one of these, I would trade it for a 1970 R/T Challenger, with a 426 hemi. Well, you did ask.
Subscribed!!
Lo que fue el Dodge charguer y el Dodge challenger son autos iconos de los años 70s sin duda una hermosura de autos de aquellos años.
Did not even discuss the unique suspension upgrades not found on most 1970 Challengers torque boxes on all 4 corners, skidplate K-member, fast ratio steering, recambered rear springs and on & on! The best Mopars of the muscle car era....the Trans Am E-bodies!!!
يا زيننا يالكويت معروفين 😂😂❤
Another beautiful car. Just one comment- would like to see more shots of the dashboards and clocks- its always nice to see the speedo and rev counter and the rest if the clocks-often gives a feel of the type of car- sporty, cruiser etc
love it,drive it,never sell it
I would love to hear about the sublime green Challenger behind you 🙏🏼
Real beautu i wish i could have 1
Black was a rare color, even rarer on a T/A
I'm drooling!! 🤤🤤🤤
ilaike this car and l neded drive it up more
It was rated at 290 horse, but not 290 ft lbs torque. I believe the Standard 340 was 340 TQ.
Passed on an orange one for $1500.00 in 1979. Had it been a 4spd., I would have made the deal...Oh yeah, I would drive it...
nice
❤️
drive it !!!!!!!
I would drive it, every day...
If I had a place to store it for the winter I'd probably buy a scat pack
Like this
I do have one ,and I took off the flat black strips and replaced them with red ones. the black ones are hard to see and hard to get the wax off them
I would have drove it!!!! A lot!!
What would I do ? Sell that one and get one with a handshaker!!
what the hell is a handshaker???
Wholesale car guy slang for a manual shifter. So is 3 pedals.
New tires on it eh?
Gusti hayang nu kieu hiji
I would slap on some sticky tires and head straight to the nearest road course
COMBINATION Of the OverSized Intake Valves & Triple Deuces Made These One Of Best Screamer Small BLKS.of Muscle Car Era !!!
I can’t believe somebody would spec this car with a slushbox transmission.
Sick car mate please send it to me . I live in AUSTRALIAN Queensland brisbane city.
Ok, keep an eye on your mailbox!
Drive it
I'd hand a Mustang it's own ass real good🏁
i would drive it till the wheels fall off!!!!
or till your gas money runs out:)
If I have a car like that I will use it for Road and track How well it will do on the curvy roads or burnout or anywhere
I have a 2014 same strip same hood my is the RT model hemi 5.7 6 sick 20.000 miles paint silver dark thinking of painting hood put TA in strip and more black is nice bless you and your nice car
I’m wondering if you are aware the T/A 340 was different than the Chrysler 340 motors they put in both Dodge and Plymouth?
They have put these engines on a dyno - actually produced around 330 gross horsepower.
What an awesome car. I am doing a 1970 T/A tribute with a 2016 scat pack. It is a factory black car. What color do you think the t/a and hood are? Matte black?
Satin Black
actually MOPAR used a coating...(not really a paint)...on their "blackout" treatment called Organisol. It was what they put on radiator cores and other front end parts to keep that stuff from showing through the grill. When applied it feels like 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper...very hard to keep clean and don't get wax even near it. Last I knew there was only one guy left in the US that could make it as all the auto paint makers stopped making it and he is (was???) the only guy left with the correct "recipe" for the stuff. I had to track it down back in 2006 when I was restoring my AAR. The guy is (was) in Virginia, don't remember the name, and of course the stuff ain't cheap as I think I paid like $200 for a pint. But seeing you are just doing a tribute flat or satin black will work...
@@bultacowally Heard a rumor from the seventies they were all painted flat black like the actual Trans Am series cars so that the drivers would not get a glare off a painted hood.
I would drive it like a fully insured rental car.
wondering if this still available for sale?
The cars featured on Muscle Car Of The Week are not for sale.
V8TV Sad. what do they do with these cars? do you have any idea about current maket value of car like this? I'm a muscle car fan particularly a huge fan of 70's challenger. the car in the video so perfect that im in love with it ( already watched this video like 50+ times). its sad to learn that this car not for sale. would very much love to see a car like this in my garage.
What does S/E stand for? R/T is Road & Track. Thanks ahead
Pete :")
Special Edition?
S/E.stands special edition.R/T on all Chrysler cars MEANS:Rapid Transit I am 40 year owner of charges an T/A s & AAR cuda's 27 of them between 3 friends
Thank you sir for clarification! Can you film your cars and reply on my comment and I'll watch the vids! Thanks! Thumbs up!
RT stands for road and track. 1000% sure.
Before 1970 it was road&track but road&track magazine said they could not use it so.change to rapid transit system.
I would drive it like I stole it with my chick by my side .
#MoparOrNoCar
For sale? I’ll contact the black market and sell my left but for it. I’ll do cash for the rest as I’d like to keep one of them lol
Don't mean to split hairs. But it's T/A Challenger. Not Challenger T/A
only 4 bolt main small block from mopar
No they were 2 bolt main but 4 bolt main capable. 4 bolt main is really not that big of a deal anyway for MOPAR only with Chevy because the lower part of the block and the main bearing caps and journals were much lighter and weaker back then on Chevy.
I would tint the windows put a huge stereo in it !. Then have axel rose screaming about some shit as I burn a 40 foot strip down the road
Steal plenty of fish 🐟😜
see how many guys i can pick up
Sweet car but !..........Wooooo where the chin spoilers on your car ?
What would I do with a car like this? Well one thing I have to do is keep the window rolled up to stop the panties from hitting me in the face and blinding me while I'm driving
That's my dream car but I'm a kid and people are going to get a car I'm saving to buy the car and bearly have $320 dollers
store it in the garage and never ever let it see the light of day less people that kno you have a car like this the better and just baby the hell out of keeping up maintenance and cleaning it just all in general keep it for your personal greed i have 4 challenger one 2015 scatpack a 2020 v6 that i daily and 2 71 challengers ones a all purpose strip car and other is a T/A clone instead of the 340 its a 440
I'd race the fk out of it.
Chrysler IS the BEST.
