In the US at least, mochi is still called mochi like sushi is still called sushi, and a rice cake is a crunchy, dry, flattened brick of puffed rice that's sold as a low calorie/gluten-free snack alternative
The same in Germany, sushi is sushi and mochi is mochi (of course we have a non-english name for rice cakes. Its Reis Cracker, the litteral translation Reis Kuchen would be an actual cake made from rice-based-flour). But I think a lot of the older japanese dictionaries translate mochi as rice cake since mochi wasn't really a thing back then.
Mochi have been called rice cakes in English for a long time, but over the last 10-15 years or so as JP culture (read: anime) has gained more traction in the west it's slowly been phasing out in favor of mochi since, yes, we already have a different product called rice cakes lol

I always kind of forget how good Subaru's English actually is. I'd actually say that she's one of the best in HoloJP. Koroneglish is something I've learned to understand from all the time spent watching her. Mio's is really cute, and her "are you hearing this shiitake" face after getting roasted had me cracking up.

The improv dance with Korone, Fubuki's folding ears, Korone's reaction to learning how much "I'm die, thank you forever" took off, even Miosha's consistent messing up the phrase (which is just telephone, really). I also still can't get over how different Kira sounds when speaking Japanese, it's starting to make me wonder if I sound that different speaking German...
I love that Mio is actually whispering in to Korone's dog-ears and not where her human ears would be. I wonder if that was intentional or if it just worked out like that because of how the models map on to the actresses' actual bodies.
