How did cleaning the top of the metal pad fix the input? Wouldn't an input issue be caused by that metal pad's connection to the contact pads underneath them? Since there's a plastic sticker in between the metal pads and the contact pads it's not like the alcohol dripped down into where it needed to go. I'm not saying this isn't an effective method, because ultimately it seemed to have worked for you; I'm just really confused as to how. The metal pads themselves aren't what send the signal (they just act as the accentuation), it's the contact pads underneath them that would need to be cleaned. Funnily enough I have that same controller but only came across this video because I need to replace the thumbstick caps, so thanks for showing the method for this exact type of controller.
Something was causing the contact to not register a button press. Luckily for me, cleaning the pad worked to resolve the issue. That fix may not work for all d-pad issues.
Yeah took this all apart to realize the contacts are encased and there are no actual contacts on the d-pad itself; it's just a plastic actuator. Any ways I cleaned it tested it and cleaned it again as suspected it did not work for me... I really don't think there is a solution once these do wear out either than replacement of parts. Looks like in this case the entire board the buttons (contacts) are "laminated" onto... Or some crazy surgery. If anyone knows I'd love to hear about it...
this is can fix = if ur D-PAD start press itself , simple and useful . when i open my d-pad from first time there is a black thing its like a dust or something idk but when i clean it fix my problem
I don't understand how this solved your problem. When pressed the D-pad itself doesn't make direct contact with the board. What you cleaned was the top of the conductive film sticker. Under the film sticker are 4 dome shape metal caps. When pressed only a small part of the metal tab makes contact with the board and when released it retracts. Kinda like a Snapple bottle cap (Click clack). So When part of the D-Pad no longer works it's because the metal Dome has lost its flexibility... No amount of alcohol or cleaning is going to fix it (especially the top of sticker.) The $6 adhesive film sticker needs to be replaced and is very simple to do.
Mark you say the sticker needs to be replaced... Any videos on removing that? Sure enough this did not work for me because the issue is between the contacts encased under this film "sticker" I still get the (click clack) so the dome is working... So really I would want to inspect and possibly clean the contacts within...
Hey I have a question my left button on the d pad is like loose and when I press it down it doesn't click but it still works barely will the thing you did work?
Is this a good idea for wired controllers? Last time I tried taking one apart all the buttons literally fell out cause they are put in differently compared to wireless
If its a different brand than Microsoft (PDP or Power A) the d-pad could be completely different. Let me know what brand you are using, maybe I can do a tear down video in the future.
@@CO3Productions the ones I use are power A and a PDP one. PDP is different to cause the buttons are held in by rubber pads that are held in by i think little circuit boards. Power A was easy as hell to fix while PDP couldn't be fixed cause of how it was made
I'm not sure what you mean by dpad iron clicker, but I have an affiliate link below for Xbox d-pad parts on eBay. Something there may be able to resolve your issue. ebay.us/9t8Ryx
Hey, I have an xbox one controller with a stiff d pad. When i press down on it there's no response, Unless I press really hard. Do u think this will work for it?
Fixed my issue, it was really dirty there and with this it is working just as new, thanks!
That's awesome! Glad to help.
Very helpful I have been having this issue for months and this finally fixed it thank you
Glad to help!

This is exactly what I thought.. Why would cleaning the plastic help with the pressure.. But the question is, did you find a solution for the issue?

My down on the d-pad is just stuck in down and even when I try to press from the side or pull it out it doesn’t work 😞
Is down still stuck after removing the dpad and metal ring?
great video! helps a lot! work for my controller and now d-pad is totally functional! Thanks!
That is awesome! Glad I could help.
My right on the d pad sticks but doesn’t as much when I remove the d pad and mine has a white cover over all the buttons. Could I remove that?
I'm not sure about a white cover, but I don't recommend removing anything. Best to clean around the area first.
Dude that was very helpful. Thanks for making this.

Not sure. The d pad was not working. After cleaning the pads it started working. I wanted to share in hopes it would help others.

Thank you for this. I assume it's the same for the series X controller?
I personally have not opened the series x/s controller, but I know they are similar.
My D-pad is as dead as it can be. Same controller. No matter how much I clean it, it's not registering anything at all. Kinda bummed here.
Hey I have a question my left button on the d pad is like loose and when I press it down it doesn't click but it still works barely will the thing you did work?
Definitely worth a shot. There could be some gunk in there blocking the click. Make sure to clean the plastic dpad as well.
My same problem and i find no solution, happened to both my controllers its so frustrating
@@jerdingalberto9772 have you fixed it yet I got the same shit my d pad works left but no “ click” lmk

I have never taken apart a wired controller, but the d-pad should be the same.
@@CO3Productions none of the buttons are attached to the controllers they all fit into groves

Will this work with my x button on my controller to
It certainly can't hurt to give the button and pad a good cleaning.
if my dpad iron clicker was btroken where i can buy ???

Now my D pad is skipping multiple clicks and is very sensitive
You can try adjusting the metal ring. If that doesn't work the d-pad may be beyond repair.
What tool is that you used for the screws
Wowstick pro precision screwdriver
