very fine gold up there mate.you only need a permit when fossicking in state forest.with the gold i think you can take a 10 litre bucket of material home.if you were to take dirt home try and just take the concentrates.by that i mean pan down till you see the black sands and put that in a bucket.Once you have enough concentrates take that home for the kids to play with.
you can take buckets home. rules are you can dig a 1m square hole but you've gotta fill it in. I suggest you get a nipper pump and suck up the flood gavel behind that bed rock outcrop up river after each flood. you'll get some stuff to excite the kids. yes there is trout... I've seen in the upper mongarlowe which feeds in to that river.
