Helmet Sinatra:
I can't move her
Obsessed with protection
This is a bad idea
She needs affection
What, me?
Drive around town forced to talk
Pass that church again
Where's a parking spot
It's Sinatra's world
She just lives here
I hate everything as much as
I hate me
What's the best for me?
She doesn't see me
I don't care
Just move around some and
Fix your stare
I had more fun
Took half the time
Cost three bucks, buy a magazine
What's the best for me?
Almost every solo live is improvised by Page Hamilton. This... is the greatest version of Sinatra ever.
Written by the guitar GOD Himself
Best live version I’ve heard. Page is underrated as a guitar player he can be very technical when he wants
best solo version
This song is meant to be "angry", the deftones made it more of a "darker" sound, but that there thing I guess. Sinatra is about elevated blood pressure, frustration and just plain being red in the face, the lyrics are in the info. The deftones missed that, but its fine they put there own spin on it, I just find the execution to be lacking, But I'm a guy of the early 90's, Helmet is probably my favorite band. The guitar track in this live version is amazing, the tone is unduplicatable.
WILL YOU LISTEN TO THAT SNARE
INSANE
F*** yea! Their best song off Strap It On IMO
The very best song of the very best band of the 90's!
This version was the first Helmet track I ever heard and it's probably still my favourite!!
this has always been my favorite song by Helmet. If anyone like Deftones, i recommend listening to their cover of this song. It is equally amazing. It is off the b-sides album/dvd they came out with a couple years ago.
very good song and i like how he cuts his voice short at ever end of his lyrics for this live performance.
I've been in love with the Deftones version since I heard it and just discovered that this is a Helmet song: Not only do I love Helmet's version more especially at 1:52 on - I just amazoned a few of their cd's since I've heard tons of their shit on video games and sirius. But without the Deftones version (which I still love, its a great gesture to tribute) I wouldn't have been pushed to get some Helmet, Also gonna check out Jawbox since I've never even heard of them. Thank you, to covers!
i remember this version off of a single. it had like 4 other live songs. we wore that cd out back in the day. love helmet.
yeah it's one of their best fer sure.
Also, if my Pandora stations have Queens Of The Stone Age, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Primus, and all orders of music that SHOULD rotate Helmet into the mix, why don't they? I notice this with a lot of good bands that I never hear on Pandora?
There's a great version of this terrific song on an Amphetamine Reptile comp. with the Cows, and Surgery. I could only find the god damn cd. : (
This is quite nice though. Thanks.
classic stuff, awesome upload
great fuckin song deftones or helmet
so good
Well said. I'm a huge Jawbox fan as well. The level of disrespect towards Helmet in light of the Deftones cover of this song is what bothers me. Helmet was one of the hardest working bands in the mid 90's, never had an off night, today both P. Hamilton and John Stanier are absolute legends for it! Folks are entitled to perfer the defotnes version if they so wish, but why the need to disrespect Helmet over it. They just took different approaches, i perfer the more angry helmet approach.
What frosty wasp said. There is no better recording of Sinatra, this beats the album version.
Either way its not Helmet covering def tones songs lol. Sorry to burst your bubble, but their isn't a member of the deftones at their respected instrument that can even claim to be in the same galaxy as their Helmet counter part, nor would they claim to be. I don't dislike the deftones version, i dislike the disrespect by every deftones fan boy seems to display. This version speaks for itself, plain and simply, follow it up with the tones, and its thin and lacking in many areas in comparison.
Yes I guess im a deftones fanboy because their cover is better than Helmet’s original. Sorry not sorry but the tones version is everything this one was missing. Still a huge helmet fan tho.
really good !
Thanks a lot man, it's too bad this band has basically disappeared in recent years. Stellar performance here.
@ericmsandoval - FUCK yes. Best snare EVER
@magneteye Helmet=ETERNAL AWESOMENESS! :D
AWESOME!
Damn right!
@mlc3 that statement about Helmet actually came directly from Chino Moreno's mouth in an interview... so, it isn't all that crazy.
C L A S S i S C H O O L ! ! !
Do you know Jawbox have recently reissued For Your Own Special Sweetheart? They played a few tracks on Jimmy Fallon, too.
1:52 🤘🤘🤘
deftones are my fav band, but i was expecting WAY more out of the cover, especially the instrumental at the end of the song
I've been watching videos on RUclips for a whole 10 minutes now, and I'm already totally fucking sick of the 'Deftones are the best no Jawbox are better Chino's a better singer no fuck you Helmet rule' arguments. But with less punctuation.
Can we just all grow the fuck up and admit that Deftones, Jawbox and Helmet are all fucking killer?
Many thanks
they should put this song in max payne # 1 when ur escaping the test lab.
Its borderline offensive to say the deftones version is better then this.Without Helmet thier would be no deftones, and if they did exist they would be doing Metallica and Slayer covers instead. From the assault on the snare to wall of guitar tone, the energy that emits from every second of a Helmet performance of Sinatra is unrivaled.I like the deftones but they perform a drastically dumbed down, thin version in comparison.Your welcome to your opinion, but I suggest revisting it.
I'm having a hard time seeing where it's dumbed down, the guitar is just less stacatto (it takes a small backseat to more drums, electronic mixing, and a more prominent bass line) and the lyrics aren't done in a deep growl, more of an echo. It's stylistic input on a great song, probably the best song Helmet ever did.
240p, we meet aga.. damn, have you been working out?
I try, but i really can't understand Hamilton's lyrics
yeah, this is one of my favorite helmet songs, but i like the deftones version more. Maybe just cus i am a huge deftones fan. but technically and aesthetically i like it more too... I am sure people that favor helmet feel the opposite, but also like the deftones version.
I wouldn't exactly lump them in the same time frame. It just seems that way due to Helmet being so far ahead of their time, and all these others never progressing,in fact most regressed from the templet set by Helmet. Its pure ignorance to attempt to elevate the deftones above helmet,in fact its flat out stupid and indefensible. The early 90's had a host of bands that would clean anybody today's clock from a heavy/original perspective,Quicksand and Kerbdog just to name two.
Keep smoking your crack rock......
deftones>helmet
deftones version of this song is better in each and every way
DEFTONES FOR LIFE
Helmet kicks ass w/ this song, BUT...in my opinion Deftones perfected it.Chino just sounds better....Peace
