The berserk fandom deserves the FMA brotherhood treatment so god dam bad it hurts. Surely some studio somewhere must be thinking "if we just animate this properly and get some decent voice actors not only would we be doing a series justice but make some fucking dollar" it really baffles me why such amazing source material is so slept on!
My theory is they are waiting for it to be fully or mostly finished before they go in for a full anime. I hope one day we get to see an end to this series and eventually a faithful adaption.
No. We already got two golden age anime adaptations, we don’t need another. But berserk 2016 definitely needs a remake. I’m really hoping after the memorial edition is over, studio 4c announces that they will be remaking 2016 and also animating the lost children as well as other arcs using the same animation style as the berserk movies.

I will always have some respect for berserk 2016/17 because they got me into the manga and alot of other people as well. Despite what people think of this adaptation, it got alot of people into the manga, so in that sense it's not a complete train wrack.
Honestly if you can look past the animation it’s pretty decent. Everything past episode 2 is paced well, not a lot is cut, it has good music, and of course has the amazing story of Berserk. But it’s an action anime, and the action is flat out terrible as a result of the low budget and halfassed animation, which turns a lot of people away from it.

I did misremember though, it's past episode 3 that it starts doing a decent job, before that it really rushed and makes unnecessary and bad changes, but after that all he stuff that happens in the manga also happens in the anime, save for cutting out Ganishka's bits towards the end of the final season, though I suspect that's just cuz they didn't want to introduce a new character and plotline with only 2 episodes left, and they were probably planning on opening S3 with Ganishka's storyline.

Do you have any idea how much money it would cost to make it 2D? Because of the quality of the manga, they’d need to spend a lot of time recreating that detail and make it work in an animation as well, rather than panels on paper, which for the artists would be Hell, and require a big paycheck just to do it in the first place. Honestly all that needs to happen is it needs to be redone by a studio with more experience using CGI, which there are plenty to choose from who could do a much better jobs animation wise in much less time and for a lot less cash. However the studios who would risk their reputation working on Berserk are far few in number...

Berserk 2016 was supposed to be a hybrid of 2d and 3d animation, the aim being to use cg models to capture armour detail and create more dynamic fights while the 2d would be used for everything else... so aside from the very poor direction, I can't understand why there's SO MUCH cgi in a scene that has so many still frames or simple shots. Let me show you what I mean, in unbearable detail, and if someone wants to redraw over this scene with these changes, you could easily make the show look 10 times better than the original studio did: INTRO 0:00 Isidro is 2d here, which makes sense (although that camera zoom is horrible). 0:01 The Kushan's hand could have been 2d here, such a simple motion. 0:02 Isidro's head could easily have been 2d here, again, a very simple motion. 0:11 Isidro and the Kushan could have been 2d here. 0:14 Guts's face could easily have been 2d here... 0:15 Isidro's face could easily have been 2d here... 0:16 Guts could be 2d here, only the background is moving. 0:17 Isidro SHOULD be 2d here, his cg model is completely still. 0:19 Again, Guts could be 2d here, only the background is moving. 0:20 At least Isidro's head could have been 2d here... I mean come on, he only blinks... 0:24, 0:25 and 0:25 Guts SHOULD be 2d here, It's a still frame, only the background is moving! (horrible zoom too, a staple of Berserk 2016's weird directing choices... why not zoom in on his eye at least...?) FIGHT 0:34 All of the Kushan are completely still here, could have been 2d easily (with a horrible zoom to cap the cut off). 0:36 Isidro being 2d HERE only emphasises how bad the Kushan looked in the prior scene, while also being a great showcase of how much better the 2d in this show is at conveying emotion than the 3d models... 0:41 Guts's face could have been 2d, its not that hard to animate a head turn and the sword conveniently blocks his head, which would have made the transition from 3d to 2d more natural. 0:45-0:50 Guts's face and cloak look awful here, he should have been 2d in this scene, and Isidro is completely still, so he could have been 2d as well... in fact, the Kushan could be 2d here too, but I'll be fair and say that the use of cg models to fill a scene here instead of redrawing the same character model multiple times is actually a good idea. 0:57 Guts's arm looks... really bad. Someone should have realised this and done everything in their power to make his arm 2d, even if the armour remains 3d (I'm not even going to touch on how this whole shot was directed...). 1:00 Isidro barely moves here he could have been 2d. 1:03 Guts's head doesn't move here, could have been 2d. 1:11 Guts is completely still here, could have been 2d. 1:13 Isidro is completely still here, could have been 2d (noticing a pattern...). 1:14-1:15 two still frames featuring the Kushan that really could have been 2d. 1:17 (another awful zoom featuring an awful shot of Guts's head...). 1:19 one of the few actual 2d shots in the scene and it lasts a singular second... AFTERMATH 1:28-1:31 Guts's mouth is the only thing that moves in this scene, could have been 2d (also, the only good use of a zoom in this scene...). 1:32 Isidro doesn't move AT ALL, could have been 2d.
Half of the point was that all the gore in berserk had this beauty to it BECAUSE of how well it was drawn, everything just looks janky and awkward with the crappy animation, ig it adds to the "brutality" of the show in how brutally bad it is

someone actually crafted the sword and tried it against some furnitures it is actually the accurate sound that you can get IRL by slicing stuff with it so idk what sound you'd like tho
Why are people still moaning and bitching about animation? it captured the impact of the violence much better this way, people need to get off the bandwagon with this, be glad berserk got animated at all, lots of good manga out there that wont ever get this type of treatment or anything close.
what's upsetting is that studio GEMBA, who animated berserk did great on The Magnificent Kotobuki in terms of artstyle and animation. it's a shame that they dropped the ball on Berserk which has so much potential

Because it's mostly still-shots of colored manga panels, sometimes with camera panning. The 2D parts are decent at best anyways.
