ABOUT THE SONG
(A MESSAGE FROM BILLY X)
I understand that the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard story is a polarising one and after the broadcasted trial, the decision and public sympathy was and has been with Johnny Depp. My reason for writing this song is not to take sides or hurt anyone's opinion. The song is not about the court trial either. I've written the song from Amber's perspective as if she is trying to explain some of the aspects of a toxic relationship. And that is the underlying theme of the song, a "toxic relationship" between a man and a woman. I've tried to cater to a woman's feelings of being the victim (first verse), but also self exploration of what part she might have played in creating that toxicity (second verse). It's a story we can all relate to, because we have seen or experienced it in our lives, we have seen it in the news, we have seen it on tv and film. Writing the song from the woman's perspective for me was the more ARTISTIC ROUTE, being a man but trying to understand what a woman might feel, experience or act given such a situation. I hope we can maintain that neutrality and listen to the song for what it is i.e. just a piece of art/music and nothing more.
