Ceropegia woodii propagation is surprisingly easy (and fast). In this video I'll show you how to take stem-tip cuttings and water propagate them, then pot them up for success.
String of hearts propagation is fantastic due to how prolifically these plants grow when in good conditions. Instead of simply pruning them, you should propagate and use the rooted cuttings to start new pots, or fill in your existing pot for a more lush, bushy look to your trailing rosary vine!

I have started water propagating all of my plant in the filter of my fish tank. I found that because the filter is dark and then there's constant water movement inside there plus the nutrients of the fish water itself it is excellent for propagating plants. So if anyone has fish tanks they should definitely try propogating their plants that way if they haven't already.

There is a big difference between water roots and soil roots and apparently it is to do with the way oxygen is taken in.
If you have had trouble previously transitioning plants to soil you need to plant the cutting sooner when roots are only about 1 inch long and keep the soil extra moist for a period until the roots have developed.
I have tried this and it works. String of hearts are a cutting you want to ensure success because they are not cheap to buy so keep them moist!
Yes, totally agree - soon as I see roots in non-aerated water prop, I now pot up ASAP!
Its been nearly 2 weeks and of my three cuttings in water two have not rooted yet and one of the two is rotting at the bottom. Any tips?
@@divyapari9164 start again and make sure you change the water on a regular basis. I don't have success all the time.

Ive been gardening for 5+ years and water propagate many different plants.... this is one i havent tried in water. I usually get the 'ball" inside and break it apart to make more plants. You just saved me many months of waiting haha cheers 🙌🏼🙌🏼🇦🇺

That's an interesting system you have there for propagation. The only thing I'd do differently is I always put the wet rootings into pre-wetted soil. I find dry soil can dry up the roots too quickly and it's hard to get water to trickle down through really dry soil.

I've been looking everywhere for this plant since I discovered it about 2 weeks ago. I just found it at 1am today. Hopefully my friend can pick it up for me. I'm freaking out, can't wait to get this plant. Definitely going to propagate it asap.🤗

Your videos are very good! I'm happy to be subscribed to this channel. I recently bought a very small string of hearts in the discount section of the store and... It was not in a good shape at all. After few weeks in my office with lots of sunlight close to a south east window, the situation was worsening. So I'm propagating the few bits that were still looking ok with the water method. Fingers crossed that they make it and we can have a fresh start! I love this plant it's truly beautiful. Keep up the good work! 🙂🌱💚

Perfect timing I was just thinking about trimming my soh Its been growing and flowering non stop and has a ton of tubers forming im not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. I love to experiment with different methods of propagating it's fun to see the different results

Wow. I’m so old school. I snip cuttings using a fingernail and just shove them in a pot of dirt.
I just got myself a string of heart not to long ago I got one at my local garden store then I went again n got another but the one I was hoping to find now is the verigated string of heart. Their one of my favorite plants.
Variegated is hard to find!

I’ve tired propagating with both water and soil and they have both turned to mush! I neglected mine during winter and it wasn’t getting enough light so it’s taken a hit🥺.. tried to propagate it and it feels almost impossible! I’ve got them in a sandwich bag atm with 2 sprays of water so fingers crossed!x

Ever had a plant in such big clay pot that it dried out every 2,5 weeks when watering 4 liters every time ?
All i did is go from 26 cm diameter to 38cm diameter with a pothos.
Some terracotta pots have a sealed surface which means they stay moist longer. Other pots will pull out water and evaporate quickly.
Use a white wash paint to help seal it on the outside.
@@cathymadsen2930 I guess i'll do that if it starts to dry out to quickly, think i leave it for now since it makes over watering harder.

Can you propagate and then plant the rooted stems back into your existing pot to create a more full plant?

Some of the top leaves on my string of hearts seem to be shriveling. They have been in water for over 3 weeks and have developed some roots, but not too long. Not sure what’s going wrong.

Can i use nutrition solution in the water?
Hi guys. I am completely stumped. I have no idea where to turn for help. It seems that the internet has a different answer for my problem everywhere I look. I am completely new to gardening. And I had no idea it was as difficult as it is turning out to be. Let me explain.
I have a 4x4 raised bed. I put in three bags of potting mix. Two bags of steer manure from Lowe’s. One bag of peat moss. And a large bag of vermiculite.
That’s it. I got some bone meal, blood meal, and plant food as well and mixed it in a little.
And now anything in transplant into this bed refuses to grow. The plants don’t die. They simply just don’t grow. I’m trying to grow lettuce and kale and spinach. Plants growing in regular potting soil in starter mini pots grow fine. But when I transplant into this raised bed, everything stops. As I’ve said, they don’t die, they simply seem to stop progressing.
What is going on???
One person I talked to suggested that I don’t have enough nitrogen in the soil. So I added bone and blood meal to the top of the soil. Someone else said that the steer manure (which Lowe’s said was composted down) had too much salt.
Do I need to start over with an entirely new batch of soil? Someone told me that the mix should be one third compost, one third peat moss, and one third vermiculite. I am guessing that I have about these ratios in this raised bed. And yet I am having no luck.
As I have said, the plants aren’t dying. They seem to be just stuck. No progress.
Anyone reading this comment, can you please offer suggestions? Thank you so much.

What is the plant with the big round leafs in the black container called?
okay so the first time i tried this was on my variegated string of hearts and I put the cuttings back into the mother plant. They didn't survive because I was afraid of overwatering my mother plant and all of them dried out :( maybe if i try this method, get them acclimated to soil then pot them back into my mother plant they will survive?? I neeed her to have a full head of hearts again lol
I'd recommend not putting cuttings back into the mother pot!
Can this work for string of pearls too?
They are a succulent so can rot in water. You can hang them over water to root but make sure they don't touch it.

I've propagated some pearls before and the way I did it was a bit different than this. I took a tip cutting, without removing any of the leaves, and let it callous over a few days. Then I just coiled the cuttings on top of damp soil and kept them moist until the roots took and I couldn't lift the cutting off the soil anymore!
Thanks for the input! Definitely need a video tho. I've lost two plants 'cause I can't manage to keep them alive. A few months ago I found a pearl rooting in the actual ground by itself. I put it in proper soil, now it's not dead but I can't say it's thriving either 🤷🏻♀️

Can you propagate any time of year?
Generally it's nice to propagate when going into a growing season for a plant, so spring into summer for this, but yes anytime is fine
