Micra owner gets laughed at by everyone.
Micra owner also laughs at everyone else’s mechanical issues since the Micra will only stop when the world stops.

K11 Micra was my first car. Drove it for 2 years, crashed it twice, never did the oil service, still drove straight and started every single time.
When people think about reliability, i think this is the kind of car they SHOULD think of.

My First car is one of these. I've had it five months, it's been through 5000 miles of delivery driving, college and uni dailying, shopping, ragging up to 90mph on the a46, it's fantastic - cost me £200. They really are indestructible engines and they corner so well. Anyone who wants the cheapest stand in car - these give you no issues.
Edit: Go for a manual, they're so much more fun.

I had a 1993 Micra 1.3 16v for 10 years. It was my Grandad's and it was passed onto to me at 17. The car was 5 years old and had 7,000 miles on the clock. Had it 10 years. Although I didn't rag it, I wish I'd have taken better care of it.
It was a great little car. It was nippy, it was roomy, the non-assisted steering was nice and it was the first time I ever tasted freedom. I could drive wherever I wanted without Mum and Dad looking over my shoulder.
I'll always have incredibly fond memories of it. Wished I'd have fixed some of the rust, wished I'd have fixed the oil sump. Scrapped it when it had 90,000 on the clock. I've had objectively much better cars since but this will always be my favourite.
Rest in peace K35 OBG. :-)

My ex-girlfriends grandma had one of these, with the CVT and the even more gutless 1.0i engine. I had to drive it a few times just because the battery would go flat otherwise.
With the pedals you have to understand that they aren't actually an accelerator and a brake, but rather "Noise" and "Fear". The one on the right increases the engine noise, the one on the left is used to measure your level of terror, and neither have any real bearing on your speed which is controlled mostly by the slope of the road.

Those badges and woofer are funny indeed, yes. But....
I bought one. And removed badges first. 1.0 54BHP with manual box and retractable roof. For exactly the same reasons. To work. To survive winter. I covered approx. 4000 miles since I bought it. Insurance almost for free. Almost 40mpg. Thanks to roof I do not need an AC. It's ran in the city only so 60mph is all OK. It only wanted new oil and tyres. It's cheaper then bus. Just comparing to the bus there are no stinky sweated people who never heard of shower nor fragrance on your back in the summer peak and it is usually on time. Less than 4m length, wheels in corners, great view and excellent turning diameter enables it to park anywhere.
That car does exactly what I did want it to do. Nothing more. For almost zero costs. So for me the price/value rate is very good.

I had a 1.4 manual and was "made" by my little bro to fit an induction kit for shits n gigs!
I had an Audi S3 with big mods so I needed a cheap daily, my pal had a 1.0 manual affectionately known as the bird poo Micra. I always took the mick and swore I'd lever get one but a train ride and £380 later I was driving home laughing out loud at how slow it was but instantly I knew I liked it and it's cheeky little face.
It served me well at work in security at all kinds of festivals, trips to London from the south coast, racing other slow hatch backs through tiny country twisties and taking my Nan to the shops. It was fun to "try" and drive fast and economical and dependable too.
I am soon due to buy "the bird poo Micra" as my pal is upgrading to a mint low mileage example of yet another K11.
You will only dislike one until you own it.
Banger race it on the road, slide around in a field or enjoy some of the best handbrake turns you can get out of a car nowadays and never care if someone scratches or dents it. An all time fav car of mine and so many others. Salute the K11. Salute....

Got a 2002 manual model. It has been abused but the worst thats happened to it is the sunroof handle broke and a window handle falls off. Other than that it has been perfect. Thrashed down the motorway. Rammed with junk for the tip. Tootling around town. Its a fantastic car.

I had a 2001 1.4 activ in a lovely blue green colour with some awesome aftermarket wheel. I had my Speedo pinned @ 120 once or twice. Thing would be happy @ 80 on the motorway all day long. Bought for £500, drove for a year and the timing chain snapped. Replaced it with a 1.3 Yaris but I still pine for that car. To this day I wish Id've found someone to replace the engine. So easy and fun to drive and had longer gearing than my other small cars. It always shocked people with how fast it was for a stock Micra but I guess it was the quickest they made. Plz do a review on one you'll love it (not a CVT!)

These are honestly the cockroach of the automotive world. They're a car I shouldn't like as a petrolhead but the utter respect I have for these things because of their indestructible-ness makes me kinda like them! Only weakness is rusty front crossmember and rear of sills, mechanically they just do not go wrong.

In 2 months I`ll be making a worthwhile trip around the country putting around 500 miles on the ODO. I think such cars aren`t inherently a city bound or made for elders or youngsters but rather people who don`t care for the performance in their cars just like me and I`m nowhere to be compared to either of them

My girlfriend loves them. I drive hers regularly and it is faster than the fiesta 1.25 I had as my first car and its only a 998 haha. Brilliant little things. Great video and fun assessment of probably one of the best cars ever created to do the job of being ‘just a car’. We have had one in our family now since it was new 20 years ago and it’s been brilliant. Never let us down, cost virtually nothing in maintenance over the years and has been owned and driven by the archetypal little old lady (my mother in-law as first owner) my wife, my daughter, my son, and now me. Yes, they are never going to set the tarmac alight, but on the other hand, I’ve never had a fear of MOTs, as it’s jet to fail one. It’s now only just gone into retirement from dairy service, and will be cherished and used for shows such as the Festival of the Unexceptional, which is right up its street. Thanks for doing a road test of a car that does what it was supposed to do - get people around cheaply and reliably 😀

Just bought one :) A 2002 facelift 1.0 manual. If you get to chance to try a manual do so. Not because it's a good gear change but because it's so fun to rev it out in gears. Also the automatics are notoriously thirsty. So get a 1.0 or 1.3 manual bog standard spec and rev its tits out with a grin on your face knowing how economical your fun is. Mine has working AC too!

Micras are the best shit box cars you can get definitely. They are cheap asf and super reliable. With the K11s just keep an eye out for rust on the sills and rear floorplans, especially on the sun roof models. I have a K 12 Micra and it starts every time without fault, cruises along quite happily. The K11s are probably the best for reliability as the early K12s had timing chain issues.

If a 1.3 tops out at 80, either it's broken or that CVT gearbox is worse than I expected. 119mph is actually possible in a 1.3 manual, but that's actually hitting the limiter in 5th.
I'm on my 4th micra now, starting to crave something more refined but they're just so insanely cheap I can't bring myself to do it! Plus I don't want to give up laughing this much every day on the way to work in the middle of winter. Cheers me up every morning.
Definitely want to see a follow up video of you going green laning in it though. They're surprisingly good off road (compared to normal cars on road tyres) because the suspension travel is massive and the ground clearance is decent. It's hilarious seeing people's faces when you pass them going up some rutted farm track in a tiny road car.

These are still great little cars, although your example seemed to have some suspension issues, watch out for horribly rotten front cross-member (replaceable), and rusty sills, underneath, just forward of the rear wheels. If you drive it normally and do basic maintenance they are largely mechanically bullet-proof.
