You're visa lets you stay for 3 months? Is it a different kind of visa or do you need to request for a 3-month visa? Because I've been to Laos a few times and all those times, my visa only allows me to stay for 1 month. At the Wattay airport in Vientiane too, they stamp my visa and it also expires in 1 month. 1 time I stayed an extra week (didn't know I needed to extend the visa) and when I checked in to board the plane back to the US, I was fined $20.
When you in Laos? Starting 2022 until now, one VISA last 3 months. It is regular VISA not extra VISA needed. You need to extend your stay VISA otherwise you pay $10 per day.

Chance that you will be paying more with shipping in America... over night shipping is close to $30 each unless you live in DC and just drive to the Lao Embassy. Also, you may get 30 days Visa stay in Laos vs 90 days. For me, the most convenience is just pay the $40.00 on my way in to Laos at the airport or border. It just personal preference. 10:25 #6 - If you're banned/blacklisted, there's no way you will ever be able to step foot in Laos ever. Even if the embassy approved your Visa. When you enter Laos, they will check if you're on the list of banned/blacklisted people. If you are, they will deny you entry... even if your visa was approved. So they just keep your money. But I have heard that people changed their names and was able to enter. This assuming they didn't have your passport ID on file.
You need to do visa in the country you live before depart to Laos... they will check if you are on the blacklist.

Cuajibib, SSI disability does not allow you to stay in Laos for more than 30 days. Only RSDI will allow you to live in Laos or anywhere and still able to maintain your benefit.
Very informative. Thank you. But the bigger question is: For a foreigner, how much per month do you need to live in Laos? For yourself, how much do you spend per month while living in Laos?

15:49 #11 - I think you got 1 thing wrong. My understanding is if you go live there as a business man (can't remember but you need something like $300k or $500k investment), you can lease (xauj) land for up to 30 years. You still cannot own the land, just lease it.

18:40 #15 - No where is everything perfect. Even in the US, something are good but something are bad too. The only good thing about Laos and Thailand is the cost of living is lower compared to the US.. and of course, lots of nkauj mos ab meb cab. This assumes you're receiving money from the US. If you plan to go live and work there w/o money from the US, then you'll be worst off then the Hmong Lao or Hmong Thai there.
For those people who are well finance or retire... good for them but for younger people, you may not survive if you plan to live there without financial well.
You talked about the cost living in the Laos living in laos harder life only spent the money ,but can't earn any money ea day you earn only $5,00 from work how do you live? You take hundreds thousands dollars to laos after 5 years you have to leaving, the money gone you know why? Only spending the money you money you earn zero that problem.
Where ever you live, you have to work and earned money to support you. If you think you cannot handle the cost of living then maybe it is not for you. Stay in America is better. Majority of the people go and live in Laos, either they are retired or doing business to support them... Thanks!

US Citizens living aboard will buy their own private medical insurance. Medicaid or medicare only work in the USA.
