  • Where I'm up to at the moment.
Well this video will show the body and paintwork as it is today the paint work has been cut and buffed and ready to be put back together and polished.
What type of car is this?
This is a 1989 420 SEC V8 Daimler Benz coupe
    S Class W126
Derived from the flagship W126 S-Class of the late 1970s, the two-door SECs were uncompromisingly majestic powerhouses with super-confident pillarless styling by Bruno Sacco.
They are not the gas guzzlers they appear, benefiting from Mercedes’ ‘Energy Concept’ programmed that claimed to improve economy by 25% on the big V8s.
Mercedes’ focus was on safety and it pioneered airbags: the driver’s was optional from the start and standard on the 500/560 after the facelift, while the passenger’s became optional in 1988. Traction control was available, along with seatbelt pre-tensioners. Heated and power-adjustable front seats featured, along with a display for the outside temperature and sophisticated cruise control.
Launched as the 380 and 500, the former grew into the 420 and the 560 was added at facelift time in 1985. A few coachbuilders offered convertibles and AMG modified 500SECs: two raced in the 1989 Spa 24 Hours, but neither finished. American versions had huge bumpers, a lot less power and worse fuel consumption, so beware of imports.
The 420 was the rarest, with just 3680 sold, followed by the 380 at 11,267. The 560 sold 28,929 examples, remarkably only just behind the much longer-lived 500 at 30,184, showing that most Mercedes buyers went for the top of the line. Only c6500 of the 500s were built after the 560 was added to the range.

Thanks buddy for stopping by and for the comment. To true of a statement. A good finish with this type of work all comes from the bottom up so it's all down to how flat and distortion free you can get the panels and when time allows I will edit the video on how I achieve this type of finish and I think some might be amazed what I use to get it.

Thanks buddy for stopping by and dropping the comment, er- the shaped garage door well this is not the norm over here but this home is of a Spanish design with lots of archways inside and out the place was built way back in the year of 1970 to be exact and there are the odd one similar around here and are ideal for our summers with high roofs and large open rooms. My garage it's self is not a bad size given I have two cars and 3 bikes in it but whats good id that everything is under the main roof structure. plus we have parking for 4 more cars down the driveway so it's not bad at all oh plus the garage is air-conditioned 3 phase power & 15 amp as well as Solar & wind back up to the whole thing as well.

HI Amy thanks for stopping by and indeed I do own this car and have done for many many years. These cars are branded as one of the best cars ever made but they did not come cheap and by the time you option them to how you want the price tag is even by today's standards very expensive. Mine cost $262,000 before on roads costs so over a quarter of a million back in 1989 with its options. Just a service could equal a persons advantage anual wages if it's a major one on this model as mine has a very high performance engine and transmission factory package but to be in or drive it there is nothing like it hence the cost and the quality of them.

@@Amy_McFarland Fully manufactured American cars like GM or Ford and Chrysler were all made to a budget, as the designers ran into the boardroom with there new plans for the next years model and showed their accountants but that's where quality fell off a cliff because the accountants would always come back to the designers with, That's nice, but how can we make it cheaper and go back and design in obsolescence while you are at it......... In contrast the Daimler Benz accountants would say to their designers, This better be good enough as it must last a life time and be designed to not fail plus our type of customers are paying for that.
It's the build budget and the engineering assigned to each part is what separates the German built cars of this time from the American / Japanese / Chino cars. ......... For just an example, In the build budget on a 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Brougham the Carburettor cost around at the time $62.00 dollars to Chevrolet for the factory fuel supply. They were cheap mass produced and troublesome built to a budget to service the low income.
On the flip side a 1989 Daimler Benz used a KE-Jetronic delivery injection system ( what you will find in a UE built Airoplane ) basically designed to function from sea level up to the peek of the Swiss mountains and beyond and operate in sub zero temps to the hottest desert in the world costing just over $4,000 in the day. .....Eh the list goes on but you get the idea.

Eh ! give me he heat any day over the cold buddy though over here it's been cold but quite dry like it was many years ago with a fair bit of sun to go with it so I'm quite pleased so far with this winter here but looking forward to the summer. When you say hot just how hot??.

@@rolandkeith5322 Norfolk, VA temp is in Fahrenheit. winter it will be 30 to 45 with occasions or teens over night, but mostly upper 20s is the coldest it gets for a week or two during the winter. then summer is nights mid to low 80s and most days around 90 to 95 and that is most of the 75 days of summer. add humidity, and its just HOT! but then last week of August and it seems to break the heat cycle. then its wonderful till December and you have to put a jacket or hoodie on. coldest month is Feb here. hope that all makes sense.

@@BlakesPipes Yeah that all make sense man so yeah it get hot there mid 90's plus the humidity to go with that well it's makes it a bit to handle. Here and I will convert it into ancient Hebrew for you in winter we go as low as 30f and summer 115.6f Buttttttttt all without much humidity South Australia is the driest state on the world’s driest inhabited continent. With an arid landscape dominated by shrublands and dusty red soils, the twin spectres of drought and bushfire loom large in our collective psyche, an inevitable consequence of living in such a parched climate.
