Well done Robert! I had a 1960 NSU Supermax when I was 17, I bought it second hand in a motorbikes sales shop in England, I used to love the NSU, it handled really well and sounded great. i'm 77 years old now and I really enjoyed your trip through restoration and first ride. I still have a motorcycle! and it's another German bike! I have a 1972 Mz 250cc ETS trophy Sport. I love the German bikes they have something that is just a bit different! once again well done!
Thank you, Ron. I am enjoying it and finishing up little details like the coil box. There's a classic motorcycle show in Erie, Colorado, about 10 miles from my house. I hope to ride it over there for that as its first real outing but I have to get the tags for it first. It's been a long, hard, rewarding project.
I couldn't stop smiling while watching this video Robert 😊 The bike sounds, looks and rides amazingly well, your superb skills and effort have paid dividends. Congratulations and thanks for taking us along with you on the journey.
you give me hope,i have SPEZIALMAX that has being sitting in the sun and rain for 30 years,im restoring it now and i find your videos very helpful, engine is OK its working even the dynamo is charging(imagine) .....keep up with good old rides.....
Fantastic! The bike sounded great and that was before you found the needle problem? You did a beautiful job rebuilding the bike to what appears to be better than new condition. And, in only 9 months? Wow. Congrats on a bike to be proud of.
Hey Robert, need to look at some things, normally the 1953 MAX had a cantilever (monochoque-ish) damping at the rear, yours has got telescopic damping, they only came in 1956 on NSU MAX (I tought so...) Thanks for this great movie and showing your passion!
I had a thread on the NSU over on ADVrider with some guys who were well versed in the NSU. Much more so than me. NSU offered a dealer installed dual-seat option on the early bikes. They would remove the rear cantilever spring assembly and add the rear telescopic shocks. This is one of those bikes. It was dealer modified to add the dual seat and rear shocks. I no longer have the seat, but still have the shocks.
No. It is not a Supermax. It's a 1953 NSU Max. Supermax didn't come out until 1955. The rear shocks, which you're probably basing your statement on, were a dealership modification to support a dual seat, which I no longer have. But this is a Max. Not a Supermax.
The bike looks and sounds absolute class. Great work!

What happened with that NSU 250?
It looks that they were not a lot of them in England? There are not any of them for sale at the moment.
This is a great motorcycle. I have a 1955 NSU Superlux and it took me two years to restore it. Best regards from Germany.
Hi Robeet. Nice job. I have the same Max from 1953.. I made the engine in 1988 for a friend. Now the bike is mine and I rebuild it again
