Relinquished - 1991 (Anthem of the Soviet Union)
The Anthem of the Soviet Union was played for the first time on the Soviet radio at midnight on 1 January 1944. The 1944 lyrics had three different refrains following three different stanzas; in each refrain, the second line was consequently modified with references to friendship, then happiness and finally to glory. Joseph Stalin and the Soviet Union's war against Nazi Germany were originally invoked in the lyrics.With the process of de-Stalinization inaugurated after Stalin's death, the lyrics which referred to Stalin were considered unacceptable and the anthem was performed without lyrics. A notable exception took place at the 1976 Canada Cup ice hockey tournament, where the singer Roger Doucet insisted on performing the anthem with lyrics, after consultations with Russian studies scholars from Université de Montréal and the Soviet team officials. In 1977, to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the October Revolution, revised lyrics, earlier written in 1970 by the original author Sergey Mikhalkov, were adopted. The varying refrains were replaced by a uniform refrain following all stanzas; the line praising Stalin was dropped, as were the lines referring to the Great Patriotic War.

I'm not a communist but the fandom of this country is something to behold. The color red, the hammer and sickle, the anthem, the power.. They have everything through labor and hard work. Plus they're united, unlike some.

There was a saying in my country back in the soviet era - you sit, you stand, money you will make - life full of propaganda, heavy corruption and lost opportunities. Meanwhile, westerners lived their best under 'rotten capitalism'. A pack of oranges from the west was a luxury not everyone could afford...

Before i know what communism means I always hear that: "Communism is bad" and I accepted it, but when I get to know communism I liked it very much. I also love their music. Yuri Gagarin: the first person to go into space. For all Russians here: Вся власть - Советам!!! Their anthem makes me work hard for some reason. Maybe because I'm from a country that has been communist (Bulgaria). I also solved a Rubik's cube while listening to this beautiful music.

But in that times, for the majority of people in the USSR this anthem was a hope, and it was an serious hope, a hope or rather a dream, which in the western hemisphere died a long time ago. It was an anthem, not like many others, because of the relation to all peoples, not only of the USSR, for an example: "Дружбы народов" - peoples friendship. And in many other anthems: "We would die for our fatherland against the enemy!" or something like that. The Soviet Union was a country, that gave hope to all people all over the world. But then capitalism of consume won and wants, though they've won already, to win again.
A great italian poet spoke in an interview: "We are all in danger." (Pier Paolo Pasolini), and he is damn right.

Amazing music. The roots of this hymn are in Russian folk songs and Russian Church music. Its author is a specialist in old Russian musical culture and the last head of the choir of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (in Moscow). It is not surprising that he wrote such a brilliant hymn. He understood what Foundation was needed.
Well, it's interestingly ironic that the atheist soviet communists took the beautiful melody of their anthem from ultimately christian founts.
