Thibau following his father’s footsteps. Was a huge fan of Sven Nys when he was active in CX. One of the all greats of the sport. Now seeing his son taking his first CX world cup pro win is just awesome! Remember the name: NYS
For the people wondering why the cross in Belgium isn't able to be watched in Belgium. It is because Belgium has its own TV channel for all the crosses!
Jens was an excellent commentator. He really helped me get into the racing last cross season by explaining which were the key sections of the course, who had the advantage on each, and what they’d need to do to win. I only realised how valuable that was when similarly trying to watch XC races this year and missing that same strategic analysis in commentary. I’m actually gutted he won’t be commentating again, but obviously wish him well for his come-back!
Balance power and technique. I used to ride at a park that had like 10 walls like that. I decided i would ride up all of them. It didn't take too long to get it.
I really loved watching the Veneto Classic again on GCN+. A wonderful race, and one which I hope will make it into the World Tour calendar. That La Tisa climb....crazy!
It's currently 6-2 to the Van der Poel family in elite world championships though (7 if you add in Mathieu's road win in Glasgow). Do you think Thibau will be able to close that gap?
LOL... I tried exact the same ladder riding when I got my first proper bike and... went over the bar and got severely injured... The sourness and numbness in my elbow took years to disappear (luckily they actually disappeared). To ride something like is insanely difficult. You have to lift the rear end and front end almost at the same time. You can't go slow because you lose momentum quickly when your wheel hit the ladder. You go fast that means the reaction time got even smaller, if you can't lift your front end quick enough... because of the faster speed, you'll be more easily go over the bar just like me... It's actually a shocking to me seeing that somebody is actually capable of doing that. After the crash I thought that was just impossible... (The thought of trying it again quickly rises and passes... I won't do it again... That's reserved for younger generations...🤣)
Thank you, GCN, for the updates. This keeps us posted on the races and riders. Let's see what will be this year's cycling highlights as we say goodbye to 2023 season❤
Eric De Vlaeminck was pulling those feats off regular in the 70s. The Crystal Palace worlds he won is out there on B & W video somewhere . A similar hill but ridden on 42 x 28 most probably on a steel bike with toe clips .
People often forget that both flats and toe clips are not exactly "stupid", just slightly worse than the current way - I've done 20% for 400m on flats with an aluminium bike that was only like €1500 when new
Eli Iserbyt could have saved his race if he'd watched a bit more GTN. If the mechanic had prefitted the new shoe to the pedal of the spare bike then Eli could have dismounted triathlon style with his foot out of one shoe and jumped straight onto the spare bike without losing any time. Follow me for more hints and tips. :-)
Sorry, but this wasn't and F1 shoe change at all... Why wasn't Iserbyt's shoe clipped into the bike? He could've kept running and put his foot in on the go. GTN will have a good laugh when they see this. Can you imagine skating through T1 on your cleats? #amateurhour
100% (the stupid goggles Sagan wore around his neck when he used to podium) was the sponsor of the climb, not the measured gradient. Didn't expect GCN Racing to be so clickbaity.
Maybe in cx, where you are compared to road and gravel riders that have little to no cycling skill and are basically testing pure aerobic fitness (runners with no cycling experience can compete at levels that seasoned roadies compete at, what more proof do you need), but not even close compared to just about any other skill based riding, put him on a DH course and lets see that guy with the "greatest display of cycling skill" die doing what others call fun; hilarious that title would get used to describe a cx ride the same weekend Rampage happened.
Rampage is insane, I agree the skills there are beyond comprehension. However dont sh*t on road and cross, people enjoy these sports and dont want to risk the broken arms/collarbones/legs you get with DH madness.
You missed the point, my comment is a response to the title "greatest display of cycling skill", the referenced display is not even close; I'm not dissing, just stating facts, road and gravel may not have much cycling skill involved in general, and while cx does it is lower on the skill based cycling spectrum than some other forms, that doesn't mean they don't have amazing skill in fitness, training, and prep, or that they are lower forms of cycling that should not be enjoyed (I mostly ride road now), the skills are just less cycling specific. Just because someone says one thing and not another doesn't mean they are saying something else not stated. BTW look up cycling deaths and learn for yourself that road is the most dangerous of cycling disciplines.@@2011hwalker
How impressive was Thibau Nys at the Waterloo CX World Cup? 🤩
He got the power and the engine, like his legendary father Sven used to have. NYS DNA 🔥
Very, very impressive.
@gcnracing Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't the route Thibau's father's? If it is, is not big thing, if it isn't, he's undoubtedly a master.
@@MarrafaCycling This is Waterloo in the US. You are thinking of Baal in Flanders.
Huh? Have y’all never seen DH racing? 😂
The prospect of watching Thibau Nys going head to head with the big 3 makes the upcoming boring hours on the indoor trainer look a lot nicer.
Do you think he'll be able to challenge them?

After seeing pictures of Adri on the podium with Sven, then Mathieu on the podium with Sven we need to keep it going with Mathieu and Thibau!
I don't think we'll have to wait long to seeing that!
what great road season. thanks to all. seeing some of the kiddies riding cross and track is awesome...great athletes.

51st elite World Cup win for the Nys family, way more than the vdPs (they're at like 30)

You have to practice to do that :). He could save few seconds if he first jumped on bike and later tighten his laces.

How is that cheating? Lmao almost all KOMs are set by group rides that are pulling one specific rider to get the record
