Steve is hands down holding the entire scene on his shoulders.
In 1996 my 1st show was Deicide Once Upon the Cross tour at Corona Showcase. My young mind needed to see this stuff physically done. This was b4 any videos ever made it in our hands or youtube.
Steve was the best 1 for me to see as a drummer.
He's never had any BS, we perfectly know little of his life; He IS just a perfect example of how to show up for the job, do your absolute best, be consistant, and have an honest but great attitude.
😊😊😊
Agreed. Steve's the man.
steve ain’t gonna let you hit brah brah WALK ON HOME BOY
Steve looks like Thom Yorke’s father
PRO Steve Asheim Coalition
The man that influenced me to buy a drum set in 98. Steve is the man!
Nice ... \m/
I love how you go right into “you’re old as hell now, how long until you quit?” With everyone 😂
Poor Steve felt self-conscious for a moment.
@@SelfRighteousNewAgeLightWorker It's okay though because Steve still looks younger than JDAWG
Dawg ain't getting any other Deicide interviews after a title like that brah brah
@@vvool7 lmao no doubt
Yeah a wild title 😂
Dawg does come up with rather questionable references at times
Fits the bill browski
😂
Legion was the most complicated Deicide album. Behead the Prophets is incredible
Whi said you were allowed to make a sensible comment?
The jump from like the Oblivious To Evil main riff to the string skipping on Satan Spawn The Caco Daemon is massive.
If I was around the time when it was released, I would totally believe that they were possessed by some shit. The fact that they couldn't play it live, makes it kinda weird.
Repeat to die is like a super brutal double bass drum attack. A supreme brutal unstoppable force the entire song.
@@dinkokurtic2367Who can we believe? Regardless of whatever problems Steve and Glen had with the Hoffman Brothers, there's no denying that the Hoffmans were greatly important to the band. There are various 90s videos of DEICIDE playing songs from Legion. Both sides have their own stories.
Steve is one of THE BEST drummers in the World.
His drumming on Legion is insane.
Yep, he is.
Damn straight
I'd say most durable for sure, but "Best".. not even close IMO
Name of the "Punk/Hardcore " band Steve Asheim is looking for is Siege (Mass ). Excellent interview btw.
Siege rules
I think you are right, but could it also possibly be Deep Wound?
Yeah, I was thinking Siege or Deep Wound as the most likely culprits. Septic Death as a possible third. But really, could be anyone if it’s a random underground band.
Extreme Noise Terror is also an option.
Cryptic Slaughter Convicted from 1986 is my guess.
6 AM gang reporting in brah brahs
🤘 I bought my tickets 2 months ago hearing everybody talking about seeing them is killing me I can't wait to go to that show. It's been awhile

Killer interviews JDawg! Keeping us devils fed with all these great talks.
This guy’s drumming on Legion is absolutely dizzying. Unreal talent
Their best work IMO
The dawg is getting his dream interviews. Respect.
One of the best drummers in death metal 🤘🏽

It’s good to hear Steve quit drinking for his health, The dude was very cool and signed my stuff after he was done talking to some Chick with giant tits 😂🤘🏼the dude still has it and I’ll try to catch Deicide and Krisiun since all my friends talk about Krisiun and the influence from this channel
Lol priorities! ;'D
Cryptic Slaughter is what Steve was trying to recall

Assuck was started 87. Maybe a little late but fits the "punk ish" sound and florida

Congrats on the quitting drinking
It's easy-- I've done it hundreds of times.
What a title XDD love Steve Asheim!!!
We need a Dan liker interview!!!!
Underrated dude. Pioneering genres with S.o.D , Shithrax, Nuclear Assault (hang the pope is among first grind core songs ever recorded) and spending career with extreme projects from grind core to black metal , makes him a lot bigger figure in genre than he gets credit for (similar to Steve actualy). ECDER by Brutal Truth will forever be in my top 5 albums.
yep with an OZ of some nice green for Danny
@@dinkokurtic2367 I call 'em Shithrax too. Terrible band. And I just landed that BT on vinyl after owning the CD since it first came out.
Asheim is one of the best dudes around.
Incredible dawg you got gb and now steve congrats king!!
Hailz Jdawg ... \m/
I saw Deicide this week-end in Montreal and they were very professional, the show was second to none seeing these guys playing live is a sight to behold. I saw a lot of great bands in my life but Deicide is on another level.
Awesome to hear Steve praise Max Kolesne. Real recognize real! Deicide and Krisiun on tour together probably sends J Dawg into overdrive haha! 2 of Dawg's faves
You'll like my next video then XD, Max is mentioned god dammit!
He forgot to praise Alex Lopez from your favorite band Suicide Silence
@@LEAVETHEHALL69_RETURNS My favorite bands are Rings Of Saturn, Hellwitch, and Edge Of Sanity lol

Now we need a Bobby blitz interview!!
We need a Hoffman brothers interview, that would be wild
Interesting idea, but then the mudslinging would probably just start and we don't need another Metal controversy like all that Metallica drama shit.
I would be very interested in that and I bet it would get even more views than Glen or Steve. Hoffman bros rule and they are true Deicide to me.
@@troymurphy6531 There's almost no footage with the Hoffman brothers talking, so an interview with these two would totally blow our minds.
@@Svpposedtorot - It would probably blow your mind even more if they showed up in 2-piece suits, straight out of their cubicle jobs. Have you ever seen the original keyboard player for Nocturnus? The guy works for the friggin city and looks like a politician.
What's he supposed to look like, a metal warrior covered in spikes?@@ShadovvV
For those who were there "Legion " was often referred to as Death Metal´s "Reign in Blood " ...and I still stand by that. Classic album through and through. Steve is "the man " indeed. All these years and we´ve never heard/read any peasant poseur rubbish from him. He lets his music do the talking \m/
I don’t think they ever topped Legion. Everyone talks about the first album, but I find that one a bit flat in comparison.
Deicide is by default a F'n poser band.
Legion is the supreme Deicide release. A benchmark for Death Metal releases.
Definitely. Album inspired a generation of dm bands
@@deathtomichaelknagge4397 Definitely !!!! Too messed up ,trying really hard to reply to the goofy ignorance I´m reading in the comments to some other comment I dropped here below (or above ) ...
Great Interview. I saw Order of Enead in 2010 at a local dive bar Popeyes in Westchester we smoked a bowl and had a couple beers. Awesome chill dude. One of the best and favorite death metal drummers ever.
This was way more entertaining than the GB interview 🤘
GB was stoned AF. It's noticable how he became more energetic towards the end of the interview. Dawg keeping his boner covered with hands through whole interview is pure gold 😂
Cool to hear Tony Laureano given props, JDawg.
My Favorite extreme metal drummer!
Steve is the more important half of Deicide in my opinion.
Uhhh.. he formed the group with Benton, so I guess that would be legit.
True hero, I've been a mega-fan since 91-ish. Killer drummer who never played a wimpy beat and was always a singular force in Death metal development. Hail Steve! (And he doesn't look a year more than 50)
Great interview. Steve has earned his status as top tier legendary death metal royalty.
And then some. Damn straight. There are even "legendary" status Thrash drummers who could never accomplish what Steve has, in two lifetimes.
I remember having a couple of Jack and Cokes with Steve when DEICIDE played the Reading/Reverb!! Sick show!! I Quit drinking around 2013!! Steve rules!!! One of best drummers of all time!!💀😎👍
It's funny that Steve knows the SUP DEVILS! Hahaha, I love Fork Your God (gotta censor it cause of RUclips) his drumming on that one is just absolutely brutal.
Right ... \m/
I think, some of his best work is on TDDUP. I love the sound of drums on that album. In the eyes of God, Worthless Misery, Horror in the halls of Stone are pure madness. But, dude is consistent from day 1 anyway.
@@dinkokurtic2367 Yeah I believe one of the songs on that album has his fastest blasting I ever heard him do.
fucking right! Asheim is a BEAST! and thanks for shouting out Tony Laureano, he NEVER gets mentioned. fell in love with him and his drumming on Niles Darkened shrines album. Puerto Rico que lo que!
Tony is awesome
Good job, Dawg! Awesome interview!
This was a fantastic interview. Steve is an awesome dude!

Steve the Machine! 🤘🏻
Steve is indeed the man, great interview. Also, hope you frame the photo in the thumbnail!!
J-Dawg checks another one off his list. Damn good interview video.
Dark Angel - Darkness Descends! Yessir!
One of da best from the 80s without any doubt!
I already knew Dark Angel was an influence. Sacrificial Suicide & scars of the crucifix both have drum parts taken from black prophecies
@@gnomesayin1440even Slayer ripped off DA. No We Have Arrived no intro of Hell Awaits. Metallica One drum break= DA darkness descends. Hell, wasn't that famous Tool bass line actual rip off of Merciless Death ? Would like to hear some DA cover by Cannibal Corpse. Perish in flames maybe.
Ya, I’ve known about Metallica taking from darkness descends. Gene Hoglan did it better
So ironic that he complains about the toilets. When I toured with Deicide in 2000 ( I think ), they used to take a dump in the sinks in the backstage. This was the No Mercy Festival run throughout Europe. Cool interview though!
Another great interview Dawg. That title caught me off guard though 😂
Even on the lesser quality material Steve still kills it imo ... I think he still takes pride in his playing and always brings it.
The Blast beat originated in Jazz music
Bro got the cart 😂
Great interview!

Indeed, the Legion-set sounded very good and tight live at Alcatraz festival in Belgium last year. Nice job GB & Steve & respect for making this possible with the new line up. Very important album for many fans !!! Once Upon The Cross tour next time?

In Torment in Hell is my favorite Deicide album, other than Legion, and Once Upon the Cross. All their albums are good, other than till Death Do Us Part . People don't like Torment, and Inscyneratehymn because they have some slower songs, but those are really good songs
I love till death do us part. Them solos Ralph did some almost 2 minutes long was so good. I'm just a sucker for that shit . I guess that's why I mostly listen to Proggressive death metal.
Who else ordered DECEASED and KRISIUN at the same time? It's the KRISIUN CD's that are now the cause of delay.

The Willie Nelson of DM!
Who would you compare GB to?
@@Poser_Metal_Records I think Waylon Jennings comes to mind first!
Nice interview Dawg
In my opinion after listening to deathmetal for the last 38 years or so, the best Deathmetal was still the first wave. There's something about the thrash influence on the early records that just makes them so dam catchy. It basically adds hook to the songs when the trashy parts contrast the more deathmetal parts. The first Death, Obituary, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Pestilence, etc... All the greatest albums they put out.
Should’ve asked why Legion was in standard E tuning. Let me guess, the Hoffmans fault? 🙄
Poor Steve. Looks like he hasn't slept in days
Siege was the first band with blasting
6:19 Tony Laureano is his name
quitting drinking is hard as hell but im 49 and feel better than i did when i was 30
The guitar tone on Serpents is fucking awesome
The Hoffmans made the metal zone sound good
Yikes
A lot of “shit” guitar tones sound refreshing these days now that everyone can get a generic modern tone out of a computer.
His double pedal style gets me all fired up!
*DEICIDE* !!!
Hell yeah
1:08 Fuck yeah. Congrats on quitting alcohol. The vape pen in his hand is certainly a healthier choice
Both are great in moderation, nothing like a good crossfade to end a long week lol.
@@Trahzy Alcohol, even in moderation, is still a hard drug that can kill due to overdose and withdrawal. It's also a carcinogen and neurotoxin.
@higler. I'm well aware, but the truth is 6 beers once a week will not make you overdose nor cause serious withdrawals. McDonalds kills people too, let people enjoy things as long as they aren't causing serious harm to themselves or others.
@@higler. I'm well aware, and McDonalds, Coca Cola, processed foods and snacks you eat are full of synthetic chemicals and toxins that can destroy your body or kill you if you abuse them. Too much smartphone, TV and computer use can cause vision damage, depersonalization, depression among other issues. Driving a car can kill you as well.
Justin video titles reminds me of metalcore song titles back in the early 2000s
I wouldn’t know like a real metalist
First super blasting I really heard was Brutal Truth's first album, Extreme Conditions.
Steve the machine \m/

The band he was trying to remember is Cryptic Slaughter
When i learned Steve was a main driving force behind deicide i appreciated them ten times more.
GB is a New Yawker and the brothers Hoffman come from right down the street from myself. (The intersection remains sketch AF today.) But Steve, Steve is the Florida Man of the Florida Man of death metal bands.
I did not know the brothers Hoffman. Some child molester on the bus brought up Deicide out of nowhere not even suspecting we already were down. He told us and the Seattle connection was later confirmed. We also gave you Pat O'Brien.
Someday I'll be the next Florida Man. 😎
@FaerieGoatmother Tf are you even talking about in your second comment lol.
@@FaerieGoatmotherSeattle connection???? The Hoffmans are from Florida & Pat O'Brien is from Kentucky.
@@Trahzy - Not sure about the other shit, but I do know Pat O'Brien was an original member of Cannibal Corpse who burned his own house down while breaking into his neighbor's place. Apparently he was blabbering something about "the rapture" and threatening everyone with a knife. They found human skulls and something like 80 assault weapons in the ashes of his home. I believe he served like 2 years total in jail and was released.
why is j dawg always so close to everyone he interviews xD their bare legs are touching damnit. great interview.
Next interview he will be sitting on the guest's lap.
The DAWG treats every interview like a gym pose-down and insists on establishing his dominance as the leg gain king

Why Deicide did not use blast beats was because at that time blasts were a part of grindcore .
