Edith Bunker was the most incredible character in television. Pure of heart. Kind sweet giving. Who she was should have been a part of all of us. She saw the good in everyone. And more important, she made those around her see good in each other. The world needs more Edith Bunkers.
I adored the awesome character of Edith Baines Bunker! Her performance was heartwarming and refreshing to the bigotry of her TV husband Archie. She had no hidden agendas and whatever her reaction-good bad or otherwise was REAL. I loved the friendship between her and her neighbor Louise Mills Jefferson. Their friendship balanced the war between both their husbands. Jean’s features favor my Great Grandma of whom I also adored. She was brilliant, beautiful and talented! 🍃♥️🍃
I was deeply saddened of her character dying off on the show. it took a minute for me to get over it but I understood when your heart is no longer in it move on. That’s just what she did. But dam she was good
After Carroll died, Larry King did a great show about him, had co stars on the set as well as called in. Sherman Hemsley called in and talked about how he got the role of George Jefferson. His manager called him and said hey, All In The Family was casting for people to play The Bunker's new black neighbors. Sherman told him wow I dunno, that's a very popular show, Carroll is a very well respected actor. Sherman decided to attend an audition, he said he was VERY nervous, Carroll put his arm around him, gave him a very reassuring smile and you'll do fine. So Sherman said he felt extremely relaxed, they ran through some lines, He said Carroll looked at him, the producers, other cast members and pointed to him and said he's our George Jefferson. He bought Kelsey's Bar. He won a Peabody award for his performance of Edith dying. She also played the wife of the giant in a Shelly Duvall's Fairy Tale Theatre Jack and the beanstalk.
What is sad is all these people talk about people that we've already lost and not when they're here where they can speak for themselves they make up things as they go they say what they think might be it's never ever a completely true story they need to let the rest rest
When she died, a cartoon was drawn showing her at Saint Peter's heavenly gate dressed as Edith and the caption said " Archie, I've got your beer!" as Saint Peter smiled.
I can understand why she wanted to leave if you're heart is not in it and for other reasons she should leave it could have been a mess other wise but how they wrote it and Archie's acting they pulled it off perfectly
Millions cried when her character died. She was so loveable and honest with Archie. He didnt deserve her, but she followed her heart and loved him. As characters of course. The show highlighted racism. It made people think. 45 and his followers echo Archies beliefs. Thats enough to keep racism under the spotlight causing hatred to die down as Ametica decided not to accept their dumbbess. Well, they're back. Vote blue! 🗳

I think her reason for wanting to leave made total sense and is respectable. She was a lovely woman. 😊
R.I.P. Jean Stapleton 😢 and Norman Lear 😢 and Carroll O'Connor 😢. Etc

Loved her both as Dingbat aka Edith Bunker and Nana Silverberg on Murphy Brown.
She stated she did all she could do with the Edith character and felt it was time to move on to other endeavors.

I think she was killed off because she did want to be type cast..😮
Jean Stapleton got burnt out and tired of being Edith Bunker by 1980. Jean wanted to do made for TV movies and Broadway plays. She needed to move on.
