People kept telling me to get out of Kathmandu as soon as I entered Nepal. People kept telling me to go to Pokhara instead. But I really loved the city. I loved it more than Pokhara. Pokhara is just a tourist trap, especially Lakeside, which is very tourism-centric and fabricated, while the Kathmandu valley felt more authentic, where you can actually see how people live, walk, and eat, which I couldn't see a lot in Pokhara. Obviously, I'd still agree that Nepal's biggest assets are the Himalayas, but Kathmandu is a gem.

Thank you. I'm planning on visiting Kathmandu, and wanted to know what other places to visit that have temples and other experiences that are much different than Kathmandu and worth traveling to. I'll skip Pokhara based on your opinion and others. For culture, temples, and foods different from Kathmandu, where else would you visit? I'm 71, a solo traveler, and wouldn't be doing trekking or going to any spots with too many dengue carrying mosquitoes. I'll be there this November. Thank you!
@@magicbobNJ I think Pokhara is still worth a shot. It's very beautiful naturally. But I just felt like Lakeside is more tourism-focused. There are still a ton of places to visit in and around Pokhara that are temples and museums. I think Chitwan Park is something that's cool for safaris. I don't think there will be mosquitoes in November. I heard Bandipur is really nice which is in the middle of Kathmandu and Pokhara.
