Dash board warning light/tell-tale light, is an indicator of malfunction or operation of a system, indicated by a binary (on/off) illuminated light, symbol or text legend.
Modern cars comes with a variety of warning lights.The warning lights are in different colours.
A red warning light demands immediate attention (don’t drive any further), while yellow/orange warning lights indicate a problem that needs to be serviced soon.
If you see a green or blue light, this normally indicates that a certain car function is on or currently in use.
Brake system warning light:
When this light comes on, it means one of two things. Either the hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) in the master cylinder is low, or the parking brake is engaged.
Your brakes are comprised of a network of brake lines, tubes filled with hydraulic oil. At one end of the network is a pump called a master cylinder. When you press on the brake pedal, you actuate the master cylinder and put pressure on the fluid in the brake lines. At the other end of the network of lines (at each corner of your car) are the brake calipers. The calipers are hydraulic clamping mechanisms that force the brake pads against spinning metal discs (the brake rotors), creating friction to slow and stop your car.
If the system springs a leak, the fluid level will drop. A leak can cause your brakes to fail. And that’s bad. So, inserted into the master cylinder is a sensor that triggers the BRAKE light when the level gets low.
On many vehicles, especially older ones, the same BRAKE light also signals a driver that the emergency/parking brake is engaged. That way, the vehicle is not driven with the parking brake on .
Engine temperature warning:
This temperature warning light means that your engine is running at a temperature that is too high - in other words, your engine is overheating.If this warning light pop up on your cluster stop your vehicle immediately.Allow the engine to cool and then check under the hood for coolan level.If your vehicle's cooling system is working properly, this should never occur. However, a problem with the cooling system or low coolant can cause the engine to overheat, which leads to engine damage.
Oil temperature warning:
Auto manufacturers use an oil pressure warning light on the dashboard to warn the driver if the oil pressure gets too low. Some vehicles are able to distinguish between low oil levels and insufficient oil pressure so you’ll know if the pump is malfunctioning or if you just need to add some more oil.
When you start the engine, the light should turn on for a second or two to test the bulb. Once the engine has turned over, the light will turn off if everything is okay. If the light remains illuminated, immediately shut off the engine and check the dipstick.
Whenever you check your oil, always remember to wipe the dipstick clean, reinsert it back into the engine, and then read the level. Otherwise, your reading will be inaccurate. The same thing applies if you are driving and the light comes on. Pull over as quickly and safely as possible and check the oil level. If the overall level is correct, it is likely that the fuel pump or oil pressure gauge are malfunctioning. Replacing the pump or whatever is malfunctioning should turn the light off.
Power steering warning light:
This light, a steering wheel and exclamation point, indicates that your vehicle’s power steering fluid levels are low or that there is a fault in the system.
If the light turns on, the fluid levels need to be checked and topped up if low. If the light remains illuminated after the fluid is filled or comes back on down the road, then the vehicle needs to be inspected by a technician.
Battery warning light:
If the battery warning light on the dashboard comes on while you’re driving, that means the charging system isn’t working, but the fault may lie in something other than the battery.
The cause of the battery light could be a loose or corroded battery cable or other wire connecting components of the charging system, or it might be a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator. The alternator generates the power that is stored in the battery. If the alternator fails, or the accessory belt that drives the alternator is loose or broken, then you’ll end up with a dead battery because the bad alternator isn’t recharging the battery.
Check Engine light:
It also known as engine malfunction lamp.The light could be a minor issue, such as a faulty gas cap, or it could mean something more serious, such as a misfiring engine.If the light is flashing it need immediate attention.
