    Im using a 1080p monitor on vga and its really sharp!

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад +10

      In this video, I might have exaggerated a little bit, since at 1080p, vga is still acceptable. And yes, it looks sharp, until you put a DVI/HDMI/DP monitor right next to it and see the difference. But if you don't, then vga is fine. I'm not telling you which port to use, I'm just giving you information so that you can decide for yourself. Also, thank you for the comment!

    I'm gonna go with Displayport because I always seem to have problems with HDMI. For TV it's fine but for PC there always seems to be some kind of issue be it parts of the desktop go past the screen, warped image, unstable, and overall just poor optimization. DVI is great too but that's soon gonna be obsolete if it isn't already.

      Yes, if you only care about pure bandwith and factor out all other things (price, physical stuff like locking mechanisms etc.) indeed DP wins, HDMI 2nd, and DVI 3rd.

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  6 лет назад

      Well if you have a 60Hz monitor, it doesn't matter. If you happen to have some monitor with a very high refresh rate, perhaps 144 Hz, only HDMI 2.0 will support it. If your GPU has an HDMI 1.4 port, you should use DP. However, if it's HDMI 2.0, it really doesn't matter at all which one you choose.

    Hey man, my TV has a really low refresh rate and it makes it almost impossible to consistently do well at FPS'. I was looking around my house and found a monitor that supports DVI as well as VGA. Unfortunately the monitor doesn't support HDMI so I can't connect it to my Xbox One without an adapter.
    Would you recommend getting an HDMI to VGA adapter or an HDMI to DVI adapter in order to have the least amount of input lag.
    (The monitor is 1600x900 p and it has a 5 ms response rate)
    Thanks.

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад +1

      Get the HDMI to DVI adapter, because DVI image quality is better, and also, an HDMI to DVI is cheaper than an HDMI to VGA one. That's because an HDMI to VGA adapter is an active device that converts the signal from analog to digital, whereas the HDMI to DVI adapter, is bascially just a passive plug, since HDMI and DVI both use a digital signal; no conversion is required.

    getting a 1080p monitor, and planning to keep using active converter hdmi to vga. since it worked fine on my old 768p monitor. is this oke or do i have to spend extra on hdmi cable?

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  6 лет назад

      Well since you're going to use a 1080p monitor you will get a less sharp image than that you'd get using an HDMI cable. You may be using an HDMI port on the computer, but the signal then gets converted to an analog video signal which is sent through a VGA cable, so you'll get VGA performance.
      While it looks sharper if you use an HDMI cable, even using a VGA cable it will still probably look better than your old monitor, but in order to fully utilise the capabilities of that shiny new screen, I highly recommend an HDMI cable.

    • @iDamnation
      @iDamnation 6 лет назад

      AKIO TV thank you for your suggestion. i think im gonna use the active converter for a while, and only buy the hdmi cable if necessary. since i dont know how the screen would look like when fully utilized by hdmi, i wont be disappointed with the vga performance that will increase from current one anyways.

      DVI does 144hz, but only at 1080p resolution. At 2560x1600 it only supports 60 hz. HDMI does 1080p at 60 hz, and goes up to 4k at 30hz, and if its HDMI 2.0 it does 4k at 60 hz. It is a little bit confusing indeed.

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  6 лет назад

      You can't use 1080p. Maybe in the screen settings, but in the real world your screen is 720p, so that will be the resolution. And yes, DVI-D is superior over a VGA connection.

    • @jackjan1345

      AKIO TV why on hdmi to vga adapter connection i am able to use 1080p? But not on dvi

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  6 лет назад

      I don't know the details, but it could be because the video card of the computer detects the HDMI adapter, rather than the monitor itself. If the HDMI adapter tells the computer that it's 1080p compatible, the 1080p option will appear in the settings of the computer. However, as I already mentioned, if the screen is 720p, the image on the screen wil simply be 720p.

      I've not tried DVI nor DP yet, should I and then see which one I prefer, or should I just stick to my HDMI Cable?

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  6 лет назад

      DVI, HDMI and DP are all digital connections, and they all have the same image quality. The only differences between them are the supported resolutions, framerates and features. Since all of them support 1080p60, all of them will give you an identical image.
      What I meant by saying "the one you prefer", is the one that you might prefer because of some practical reason like price, availability or something like that. Because again, the image quality will be the same on all of them. If you've already got an HDMI cable, and it works, then just use that one.

    Your data was severly incomplete for the DVI port. You talked about the difference about single and dual link DVI, but you left out the more important difference: DVI-A, DVI-D or DVI-I ?
    You said DI is digital, well, DVI-A is analog-only, just like VGA. Woops. And DVI-A does not have dual link either. DVI-D is digital-only and exists both single and dual link, and finally DVI-I handles both digital and analog and exists both single and dual link.
    DVI-A is near-inexistant nowadays (you'll recignize it if it looks like a single-link DVI-I but with a lot of missing pins on the right side). However you need, depending on your screens and adapters, to check if your card is relying on DVI-I or DVI-D. Most recent ones start to give up DVI-I for DVI-D, which is problematic for some DVI-to-VGA adapters.

      I'm aware of that. I should have explained that. It doesn't matter that much though, because what I told in the video applies to most DVI connections out there. But yes, I kind of screwed up with DVI. I did not explain it very well. When I published the video, I realised it, but nobody ever noticed or cared. This comment had to come at some point :)

    my monitor broke down and will be using a vga only monitor, does it matter wich adapter use or should i get and hdmi adapter for the gpu?

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад

      If you use a vga only screen, that means the signal will have to go through a vga connection regardless of the adapter, so no, the type of adapter doesn't matter.

    • @mattpili
      @mattpili 7 лет назад

      For DVI to VGA, (if it's DVI-I) a passive adapter will work. For HDMI or DVI-D you'll need an active adapter.

    So I'm going to buy a 144hz BenQ monitor and I have pc with msi gtx 1060 and i7-7700k. Which one should i get? After i get my 144hz monitor I will use 60hz one as my 2nd monitor aka i think for streaming. As much as I have heard display port has the best quality and as u said 1 display port can use 2+ monitors. So the real question is, is there really any difference between DVI and Display port that makes me need that display port?

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад

      Well, if the resolution of those screens exceeds the max resolution of DVI, then you'll need DP. But if that's not the case, there won't be any difference in quality or refresh rate. So if you don't care about DPs other advantages (support for audio, smaller connector, multiple screens on one port, extra features etc.) DVI is fine.
      There is one more thing you might want to consider: if you buy DP cables now, and at some point in the future you upgrade to let's say a 4K monitor, you can use those cables. DVI on the other hand doesn't support resolutions above 2560x1600 which means it isn't as future proof as DP.

      AKIO TV ok thank you. So all i will say is that buy a 144hz benq xl2411z, but i dont want over 1920x1080 so i dont really care. So if i get the benq once i will use my other monitor aka the one o have right now aswell and mostly to look at chat on twitch. So yeah you recommend me dvi?

      That benQ monitor is very nice, but it doesn't have a DP input. So your only option is DVI then. BTW, according to the BenQ website there is a DVI cable included with the screen.

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад

      HDMI and DisplayPort support 4k. So you can use HDMI or DisplayPort. Please note that HDMI 1.4 only supports 4k @30hz. That's why you'll need HDMI 2.0 or DP if you want 4k @60hz. This means both your screen and your pc need to support either HDMI 2.0 or DP.

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад

      HDMI 2.0 And DisplayPort are both great and both of them will give you a buttery smooth display. The difference is that DP supports 8k @60Hz and that it supports some features that HDMI does not support (like Gsync). If you don't need those features and if you don't have an 8k screen, HDMI is going to be fine.

    • @chuckmorrissette8312
      @chuckmorrissette8312 7 лет назад

      Thank you for the reply. Is g-sync that much more amazing? i mean i get a decent hdmi 2.0 tv and get a i5 6600k paired with a either a 1060 3 gig or a 1070 gtx im i going to get studdering?

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад +1

      You won't. Stuttering is something way more annoying than vertical tearing, which is what Gsync prevents, I think you won't experience stuttering on a 1060 or 1070. The amount of stutter is going to be the same on HDMI and DP. There could be less vertical tearing on DP though, since it supports Gsync. However, in my opinion, Gsync supported screens are very expensive and I think that for most people, Gsync is not worh the extra money.

      Yes you can, but displayport doesn't support the native VGA signal, so you'll have to buy an active adapter. (active means that there's an actual conversion system inside which converts the digital DP signal to an analog VGA signal.)

    • @AKIOTV
      @AKIOTV  7 лет назад

      You've got a monitor that does 2560x1440 and ONLY has a DVI input? Because almost all modern screens have HDMI/DP inputs as well, especially at high resolutions like that.
      (DVI can do it at 60hz though)
      Also, the moment you use some kind of DVI adapter, you get the max bandwidth of DVI, which means you get no improvement over using a DVI cable.

      DVI (if it's dual link on both the screen and the pc) supports 144hz. HDMI supports 144hz as well, but only if it's HDMI 2.0. So your monitor and your pc should support HDMI 2.0 if you want to get 144hz over HDMI. If that's the case, I'd use HDMI. But also, it depends on your personal preference.
