      From what I’ve read everyone has different reactions, some can rapid taper some cannot and need to taper on a slow scale.
      Is the medical profession just concerned with liability than patient health? I’d love to hear from a practicing doctor if this is the case post pandemic or there’s shortages of staff so there’s no time for research and trying new treatment plans?

    I think that doctors need to go to some specialization , re - education just regarding benzo and antidepressants withdrawal. Great damage can be done to patients trying to taper off. For example I asked 3 doctors how would they taper somebody from benzos or antidepressants whatever, their answer was max 3 weeks home schedule or same duration in hospital. I was astonished at how their arrogance is enormous. How many % Drs are aware of this what are you talking about? Who is going trough massive amount of information and videos available now on internet to educate themselves about this issues? Nobody. That's really sad.

    The practice of ripping patients off benzodiazepines and putting them on antipsychotics is rampant in assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. I didn’t even introduce an antipsychotic during my withdrawal and developed tardive neurological issues. Since I’ve come off the benzodiazepine (Klonopin) I am intolerant to nearly all pharmaceuticals. If they’d introduced an antipsychotic for sleep, I’d probably be dead. I want to know how many times this practice has gone wrong in these facilities. The 70 year old brain is even less forgiving. I imagine this practice has caused a horrible death for many.

    Yeah, I was on vali*m for 7 years and some idiot tried to take me off in one week because that's what the the manufacturer said. I was inpatient and when they saw what it did, to me, I told them to use the Ashton manual. These were psychiatrists. They were clueless. I reinstated and tapered correctly for the the next 2 and half years. It was brutal but I was able to do it. I refused to go on Seroquel. Face it. Some doctors don't believe their patients, they don't listen and they don't care.

      @@josephsailo7555 You don't know what you are talking about. I was on it for trigeminal neuralgia. The most painful condition known to man. I had a neurologist who prescribed it. I absolutely needed it for pain (along with a few other drugs) until I got brain surgery. When I wanted to come off of it, when it was no longer needed, was when the psychiatrist stepped in and almost killed me. My "action" was trying to come off of it. If they had tapered me, like they should have, it wouldn't have almost destroyed my life. Luckily, I found a fantastic NP who let me taper over years and was supportive and I recovered. I never would have gone on it if it wasn't absolutely necessary. However it really doesn't matter why someone is on a benzo. The doctors who are the ones who prescribe them don't know anything about them.

      When was this? My doctor was fine and then overnight seemed to be just adamant about pulling me off asap. Curious if there was a crackdown or just every so often and it’s doctors trying to protect their liability rather than patient care especially off of benzodiazepines or opiates. I abused opiates for years and alcohol which I’ve quit both and off antidepressants with benzodiazepines but feels like something that’s helped cut out years of abuse of other substances and taking one prescribed med to get off everything else I struggled for years with in a matter of months but just like you I got half and basically a figure it out at the worst time. Rapid taper is by far de-habilitating you can barely do anything let alone work or take care of yourself and you don’t know how long it’ll last. Hope you’re doing okay and staying healthy.
      Any tips or tricks that helped get you over the edge and back to reality?

I have taken ssris and snris and beta blockers which landed me in the hospital after taking too many because my brain is unfortunately or fortunately intelligent enough to distinguish the difference between high blood pressure and actual anxiety, and I have taken every route medication wise that is not benzodiazepine and also fighting Muay Thai so I practiced heavy meditation and mindfulness but my panic attacks never stop. I would throw up before getting on roller coasters not after, on Christmas mornings, I mean you name it any oz of excitement and I'm throwing up. I really hope that I can get the right treatment because I'm not seeking them out I just would have them as a security blanket, except knowing you have them prescribed to you might make you want to take them less and have the need to take them less. What do we do in the case the doctor just decides to choose the taper? I’ve tried and showed studies and medical journals when being told gabapentin is the best treatment vs a longer taper. Basically scoffed. (I’m a masters educated tax research about to go into law) I’m not reading Forbes articles but doctors don’t seem to care they think we’re just searching for meds but taper is causing problems and my doctor knowing I’m a sole owned tax firm owner chose Feb - April to start a rapid taper with a move in May and financial issues. Very great timing to pull someone off a med that’s helps me get off alcohol for nearly a year, reach new levels in business, build better boundaries in relationships/business and get off anti depressants. (Wasn’t asking for increase just steady taper for long period of use of Valium for half life)
    Basically doctors aren’t listening and see it accounting or law or other professions we just do what we are taught or were told for years then realize we were wrong. But scoffing when providing case studies and scholarly articles about another med that has potentially more side effects is just common practice it seems.

Find a doctor who will hear you out, a healthy doctor and patient relationship should be mutual, communication should be in both ways. I would suggest looking into the GABA/ Dopamine relation,when you are on benzo ,GABA goes up ,Dopamine goes down. So when you are going through benzo withdrawal,GABA goes down ,dopamine goes up,which is why antipsychotic are suggested because it dampens your dopamine so that you can sleep but it will cause permanent movement disorder. Exercise if you can ,focus on probiotics to heal your guts.

      Totally unecessary because any other drug is much more dangerous. Irrational and sadistic. My theory is that health "care" workers" will keep them for themselves. No,not even joking.
      I have met several docs that are on morphine. At work. Prescribing useless and dangerous meds to people in crisis.
      I know why this happens now. With the influx(at least that is whats said) of fentanyl people are scared to death to buy illegal. So now is the hay days of sadisic lawmakers and docs. Nice huh.

      @ljsc1265 that's not it, I only rarely take benzos now, when a friend I trust can spare them, it is very difficult to explain your mental health struggles to a doctor or psychiatrist and be given anti histamines or anti psychotics or anti depressants, none of which work and actually make me feel worse, I can't bare finding the strength and courage to explain myself to another doctor and have the same results, it just causes more pain.

      Same with alcohol. Some people just feel tired and irritable for a week and others have seizures. I don't understand it either. I do think it's worse for people who are in a poor nutritional status. With alcohol it depletes B vitamins and the lower the B vitamins the greater the chance of you having a seizure or DTs. Maybe it's like that with Benzos too.

    Drs don’t care. At all.
    Especially at the VA
    I’m on Diazepam, 5mg for crippling back spasms from a military injury and yes it also helps stress.
    I’ve never, in 9 years on them, ran out early or treated it as anything else than just one of my meds. Until I traveled
    Drs wouldn’t even write a 2 week dose abroad when I wanted to stay longer at home with my family in another state
    A dr will laugh and let you die. That’s the stone cold truth. It’s like taking diabetics off insulin. It’s evil.
    My fear is that since I refuse to come off them as they allow me to participate in life and I’m unwilling to be tortured via forced withdrawal, what is the homeopathic solution? Is there a root, flower, extraction etc that could flood the mu receptor that the medication hits?
    I ask this not to be crazy, but because the day is coming where private practices are a thing of the past. And my life depends on it.

      Closest I’ve found is holy basil. Magnesium glycinate helps a bit too but I seemed to feel a slight ache from my kidney from time to time. I read an article recently on how the timeline matches up that the less we included liver (specifically calf or lamb) coincides with the descent into poor health we blame on everything else like too much sugar and on, when liver contains choline and is packed with stuff we need.
      Also, the closest I’ve come to understanding a physiological element of anxiety rather than purely emotional (because there are PLENTY of times nothing is wrong yet I still feel anxiety) is the histamine balance. If you research histamine and the types of and how complex it is, you will understand why patients get pigeonholed, same with other mental illnesses and addictions, it’s laziness on dr.s’ part. Well, that and their ‘I know it all’ego.

    Benzodiazepines by themselves are not inherently dangerous for the vast majority; it is withdrawal that can be difficult or dangerous. Most doctors are not concerned about the dangers of benzodiazepines as they are safer of than most drugs, but because some are abusing them with opioids, snd, unfortunately, the law, therefore, has unfairly cast a net over them because of the abuse, and doctors are afraid to lose their license.

    • @jbwetzstein
      @jbwetzstein Год назад

      Patently false. Benzodiazepines do cause neuroadaptations, which can take months to years to recover from even after discontinuation, and studies show as many as 40% of people have a very difficult time coming off, despite taking their dose as prescribed by their doctors. It's been known for a long time that benzodiazepines carry a huge risk when taken longer than two to four weeks.
      While effective for short-term use, benzodiazepines have no clear evidence-based indication or benefit for long-term use, while serious risks are well understood.4 These risks include sedation and risk of overdose; drowsiness and lethargy contributing to falls; impairment of psychomotor skills, judgment, and coordination increasing risk of accidents; cognitive and memory impairment; depression and emotional blunting; physiologic dependence and abuse potential; interactions with other medications; and the potential for withdrawal.

      Its not just about individuals " abusing" them. Its about the hundreds millions of patients prescribed these, who then attempt to come off of them,and are being irreparably damaged. Thousands have committed suicide. THATS their problem. Stop victim blaming. Patients get enough of that gaslighting from their practitioners.

    • @jeffzest8393
      @jeffzest8393 Год назад

      @@steph7960 The principal problem is the abuse of benzodiazepines; e.g., combining them with opioids. This abuse, in a political climate of alarm over opioids and fentanyl deaths and injuries, has caused a severe backlash over benzodiazepines, which has caused almost all doctors to be afraid of losing their license, or even being legally prosecuted, if they write an Rx for benzodiazepines, even if a patient has benefited from their use, Therefore, society faces the problem of patients being forced off a medication, usually in an unsafe manner, that has given benzodiazepines their bad image. Benzodiazepines in and of themselves can be safe and effective if prescribed judiciously and taken as prescribed. You don’t see patients being forced off of antidepressants or other medications that patients may become dependent on. The abuse of benzodiazepines and the subsequent political backlash is the major problem. That being said, given the dependency created by benzodiazepines, their initial prescribing should be reduced and only if other medications have been ineffective. Further, patients need to be made aware of the implications of taking benzodiazepines.
