Imo, not playing max Christie last year is as big a reason as anything as to why Darvin ham got fired. He missed out on so much development last year when vando AND reddish were hurt and ham was playing Taurean Prince 30 min a night.
Very true. TP got too much undeserved hate, being a versatile and reliable player. But ignoring the Christie's improvement in December'23 was a huge mistake by Ham.
@@zooom6286happens. He came into the league super young. He has shown to be a work horse and is developing his nba body. The fact that he’s showing potential of having an offensive game is only gonna make his contract that much better being a great signing. Yessir! My guy Max Christie as a Lakers fan I've been a big believer in Max Christie even tho Darvin Ham didn't give him minutes like he needed to so Max could grow. Max has had some ups and downs but it's been worth it because he's started to show what we as Lakers Nation thought he could be which is a 2-way player!
The Hamster committed multiple crimes, but his biggest may be sleeping on Max. Lakers have been believers in Max, and that is why he got his contract. Max has been steadily delivering and improving. He also has a ripple impact - He is their best and most athletic perimeter player that actually plays, but aside from his individual skill and performance, the fact that Max now takes on the primary perimeter assignment, this will continue to unlock AR. AR isn't great on defense, but he isn't horrible either. Now that he has the secondary perimeter assignment, this improves their defense overall. It also takes a load off AR, allowing him to have more energy burst and lift. I give some credit to JJ and the coaching staff, for believing in him, focusing his role, and putting him in the starting lineup. They have allowed him to grow and develop, unlike the previous regime that ignored him.
@@triggawoods7665 The overwhelming criticism of Ham has been his actual decisions choices and actions or lack thereof. No one has mentioned injuries, or other things that were OUT OF HIS CONTROL. The vast majority of criticism is about what was completely under his control and choices.
I’ve been thinking the same! Dude showed so much potential that was wasted the last two seasons. Glad to see he’s finally getting recognition and minutes for his effort
He's been able to most of these things since his rookie szn in those very rare moments Darvin Ham's dumba55 actually gave him playing time. I've been saying for a while that Darvin should've used Max since his rookie szn, but that dumba55 kept dnping Max. I'm so happy JJ gave him an opportunity despite the early struggles in the beginning of the szn. Now everyone can see what most of us real basketball fans have seen in the dark for some time now going back to his college days where he showed signs of what type of player he can be in the NBA.
I will still die on the hill that Max should've played over Malik Beasley in the second half of the 2022-2023 szn especially in the playoffs when Malik just disappeared with Troy Brown Jr.
I recall Ham assigned Max to guard Kyrie one game versus Dallas and he defended well. We all saw it, and somehow Ham decided it would be best to give him less mins.
Max is great! He's a 3&D player. He's a great two-foot jumper so he rebounds and contests shots well. Also those dunker spot dump offs, he's great at those. So happy for him. Even when buried in the rotation by Darvin Ham, insiders say he's always in the gym working hard. He's definitely a good find as a second rounder. Happy he's a Laker.
Not a Lakers fan but that’s what pissed me off with Darvin Ham sandwich last year. Max Christie and Cam Reddish were playing good basketball until Reddish got injured and Ham benched Christie for Taurean Prince smh.
I don’t think that’s true… Max wasn’t always like he is now…. He’s developing and is now at the point where he’s a difference maker… I don’t think anyone really held him back (much). Maybe a little but it’s just all coming together now 💪🏽
I remember early on in AR career he’d get bullied on screens and ball handlers would overpower him. Seeing some of that with max this year but when he puts on some more muscle sheesh.
I’ve been a believer from the start. Even through his bad moments. He’s so young and has yet to even play a full season as a legit rotation player. Imo, Max has PHX Mikal Bridges potential. Just a left 3&D guard/wing that you can count on to hit shots and defend at a high level. He’s only going to get better as the season goes along. The confidence is already starting to show. We absolutely hit on Max. Knecht also looked good yesterday. We have some pieces but just got to play them.
Right now I think he’s our best perimeter defender, maybe our best defender after AD. Imagine LAL perimeter defense when Vando come back. I think that’s why he needs also trying to impact more on offense end!
"More likely to" is the key, still a developing player. You look to trade players who are Less Likely to ever make the wrong play, not "more likely to execute well" Christie is a trade value now!
I became a Max Christie because I was that player who gave 110% on defense just to stay on the court with the hogs we had on offense. Only got to shoot once everything else broke down and made it most times.
Max is wise and intelligent, his philosophy in life is deep unlike any other athlete, he will be special and he is my favourite nba player, just stay in the course and humble my friend
He gotta lock in on defense on last second shots. He didn't fight thru and allowed Steph that last wide open three. He slacked on D in a game earlier this season and allowed a game winner
I also think Gabe Vincent has played better defensively (not a popular opinion).. but Lakers cutting ✂️ down D. Konects minutes for Christie & G. Vincent (D.lo)... Has helped a lot defensively.. taking note that your chart confirms that connect in the line up led to poor defense from the grouping.. nothing to be negative about Dalton .. they just need to find a line-up that gets the best off him & doesn't make the team a liability in defense... If Christie can be consistent throughout the regular season (making him legit)... Then what's the point keeping Vanderbilt @ $17m taking note that vando is practically negative in offense ... & Struggles against bigger guards ....
Im getting Rick Fox vibes from Max. I really hope they dont throw him into a trade. These are the types of solid players we keep giving away, when we should be building around them and adding star talent.
him and Ar are the same capitalize the moment the coach give them i hope those 2nd rd picks and undrafted players should have this kind of mindset sometimes others dont give effort thats why they are out of the league
People saying Max should have gotten more burn last year weren't really watching - last year with Darvin Ham he was timid and constantly overwhelmed by big moments especially on offense. Whatever JJ has done with him in the offseason has completely turned him around. He's confident, aggressive, and an absolute dog on defense. He is now a clearcut upgrade over DLO who is one of the worst point-of-attack defenders on the team and to be honest I wouldn't be suprised to see DLO getting shipped somewhere soon for peanuts. On a team like the Lakers the better your defense is the more your offense will thrive via fast break... Max is easily a better fit than DLO and its not even close. DLO will still have games where he gets hot from deep but when his shot is off or average he's a net negative for the Lakers
they didnt stumble on this gem they now just have a coach thats putting him on the court and letting him grow he still makes minor mistakes which is ok but since he became a starter each game has been better and better
A lot of laker fans wanted him benched and traded a month ago and I was clowned and told to shut up when I told these same fans max is actually solid with great role player potential lol a lot of fans just change their opinions entirely after one game it’s insane
Max has always been this guy. He was given the minutes to show it and then lost his confidence. Lakers haven't been good at letting their young guys take up the mantle.
Thanks to JJ giving em rookies good minutes. Because hamburger never used those rookies. That’s why they will never improve or show what they got. Thanks god hamburger got fired

Good stuff from him
They gave him a significant contract. He's just showing he's worth it (probably worth more)
Great commentary, thank you!
One thing about Max Christie is he keeps himself ready to go in the game. " Next man up " mentality. He is a hustler. And a competitor.
He's someone we traded up for and developed for his 3rd year now. Finally got some bulk and his lateral speed is elite.
