Yep, generally I recommend beginners use 3 pencils but it can depend on what you are drawing, what style, and how you use a pencil. I suggest 2H, 2B, 6B but you can also think of them as a light, a middle and a dark pencil, and use whatever you have. So you could substitute H, B, 2B as your light, middle, and dark. Or 3H, HB, 4B. The softness/hardness of pencils varies between brands and people can be heavy handed or light handed with a pencil so it is down to what works best for you to build up your drawings. Start light with foundation lines and very light shading, use the middle pencil for building up shading and use the dark pencil for strong shadows or black details. Thanks for watching!
You can do a lot with just 3 pencils: 2H, 2B and 6B. But if you can get more then I'd recommend 4H & 2H for very light skin values, HB & 2B for building up darker values, 4B & 6B for the darkest values like the nostrils, eyelashes, pupil etc. If you want to get into hyperrealistic portraits then you might also want to look into how to use charcoal.
Hi! All the RUclips videos should have french subtitles available. If you mean my courses for purchase, the ones on my website don't have French subtitles sorry but I have some courses on Udemy which supports French subtitles and some of my classes on Skillshare which also supports French subtitles. Hello,
What types of pencils do you recommend for realistic portrait drawings?
You can do a lot with just 3 pencils: 2H, 2B and 6B. But if you can get more then I'd recommend
4H & 2H for very light skin values, HB & 2B for building up darker values, 4B & 6B for the darkest values like the nostrils, eyelashes, pupil etc.
If you want to get into hyperrealistic portraits then you might also want to look into how to use charcoal.
