I don’t know a ton of music theory, but here’s my understanding: Most music you’ll hear on the radio is in 4/4. The 4 at the end, I’m not quite sure what it means off the top of my head. The 4 at the beginning though, that’s how many quarter notes (the standard length of note, and also the length of a beat) fit in a measure. Most songs have the start and end of a melody aligned with the start and end of a measure. 3/4 is waltz time signature, where a quarter note (and therefore a beat) is one third of a measure. You can treat lopsided time signatures like the 7/4 (or 7/8, there isn’t much of a real difference) as a measure of 4/4 followed by a measure of 3/4. One reason Hartmann’s Youkai Girl sounds so chaotic is because we’re generally used to melody units to be some multiple of 4 beats that doesn’t change. Each “Bababo BA BO BA” is 4 beats, followed by 3 beats of “Bababo babobo BA” and then starts over. With this remix, I turned this into 2 standard length 4/4 measures by inserting an eighth note (half beat) at the beginning and middle of each 2-measure unit to make it continuous. As a result, the remix has the same amount of beats per minute as the original (167) but lasts longer since the melodies have been stretched. Note that I did NOT change much of the theme that was already in 4/4 (the climbing part and the overrated calm part) since there wouldn’t be any way to sandwich more beats into the measures they inhabit. I hope this makes sense.
@@TheRealFraston The numerator number is the amount of beats in one measure and the denominator number is the designation of note that the beat falls onto. For example, 2/2, or cut time, has two beats per measure and is one beat for every half note in the song. In other words, there are four quarter notes, sixteen sixteenth notes, and so on per measure, just like 4/4. The only difference from 4/4 is that the beat is on a half note now, meaning that to get the exact same song over the exact same amount of time, you must half the BPM or adjust the notation to use two measures for every one measure in 4/4, hence the term “cut time.”

this sounds both confusing and amazing

In 4/4 I can appreciate better the instruments used
Strange sounding but also still good damn
To think that this is actually more conventional than the original.

Simply: 4/4 is a grid divided by four beats, and 7/8 is grid divided by 3.5 beats
Basically X/Y means “you can fit X notes of Y length in one measure”
@@nextcreat
You mean 3.5 quarter notes, or 7 beats on the eighth notes.
