    Last time, I made the purchase for the RetroTINK 4K just as it went on sale. It didn't go out of stock immediately like the RTX 3090 and PS5, but I checked a couple of hours later, and they were gone. The retro scene is alive and well.

    I think the RetroTINK 4ks are selling so well because they have a great use beyond just gaming. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of people with long-standing VHS/DVD ripping projects are finding this device to be the motivation to start working on archiving their old libraries. This is complete speculation, but this is 95% of the reason why I want one (and I've ONLY not gotten one because I do not have the cash for it) but I've met a few others who've decided to go ahead and get one just so they could rip old VHS tapes.

      Unfortunately, digitizing retro games is a different enough problem from prerecorded media that a one size fits all solution doesn't exist. I think the VHS offshoot of the Domesday Duplicator might be the best solution for VHS at the moment? I'm not sure. I remember hearing it was in development. The Domesday Duplicator is certainly the best option for Laserdisc.

    So I'm a multi-billionaire and I game on a custom made OLED IMAX screen that has a max resolution of something like 192,000x108,000, and yeah, the Tink 4K just isn't cutting it. The pixels are literally big enough to see, which is a huge turnoff when I'm playing Super Mario Bros. 2. I hope Mike Chi has a RetroTink 200K in the works.

    Hi @RetroRGB,
    I've improved the install & setup process of the MiSTer's Sinden Driver. We are currently testing it with other users on the Sinden's discord. Now it can be run easily from the menus. If everything goes well, I will make a pull request to integrate it in the main project tomorrow 👍🏻

    I can't wait for a RetroTink 4K with 480Hz BFI to be available, that works independent of the game FPS, that will be a complete game changer, as it will offerer near perfect motion resolution and fantastic input fidelity, being able to turn any OLED display into a near (85-90%) CRT quality display will be incredible for gaming, and eventually even RBFI will be available (rolling black frame insertion), which not only gives amazing motion clarity, it gives immaculate smooth motion fidelity, just as raster-scan is able to do, I can only imagine what 8K OLED looks like with perfect smooth motion clarity.

    Thanks for news Bob! I had a question about the 3DO RGB. I do own one of those rare Japanese variants with the 240/480i switches on board. I still ordered the kit and had it installed by a modder a few months back. I am using the HD Retrovison Component Cables as my video out as it fits with my G Comp Setup. The picture looks great but the picture on the games on my two crts have been shifted to the left cutting off some of the picture. Do you know how to fix this and a modder you recommend to do so?

    Donkey Kong Country and other pre-rendered Rare games look so terrible with sharp graphics. They were meant to be run on CRTs with composite for sure. Same with all those PS1 games with pre-rendered backgrounds. And pretty much the entire N64. Rare examples where plugging in a simple yellow cable into a TV is better than complex scaler setups.

    • @krisc1684

      @@DuelingDragonAdventures have you ever seen DKC on a 4K OLED or a really good VA panel with CRT filters? It's more BVM-esque, far sharper than composite, but still blends the pre-rendered graphics. It's incredible

    • @mjc0961
      @mjc0961 3 месяца назад +1

      A simple yellow cable into a CRT, sure
      A simple yellow cable into a modern TV is usually a mess because of the TV doing a poor job of upscaling and converting the video while introducing a bunch of unwanted input latency. Almost every upscaler on the market will accept the simple yellow cable and give you much better results than the modern TV. Even if you don't want a RetroTINK 4K, do yourself a favor and grab a RetroTINK 2X or something lower end like that.

  • @NintenZoid84
    @NintenZoid84 3 месяца назад

    So Tink4K supposedly adds 2 - 2.5ms of lag just by using it, plus 8.3ms of lag from it's internal BFI setting, and THEN there's the input lag coming from your OLED TV's SDR game mode? Is that correct? Which would be around 10ms at 60fps with my TV. That's a total of 20-21ms of lag unless i'm missing something here.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  3 месяца назад +2

      This is a good and fair question that’s (respectfully) missing a bit of context. Please allow me to explain.
      First, from a gamers point of view, 2.5ms of lag should be thought of as “zero”. I really, REALLY love how people are finally taking lag seriously (and adding total lag like you did…don’t forget wireless controller lag too!), but so often I see people confuse frames and milliseconds. 2.5ms is imperceptible by humans. Period. So yes, add it…but it’s also a number to be happy with.
      Next, BFI will always add lag. So it’s important to see the trade off: The TINK adding 6ms of lag is better than the TV adding a frame of lag. So don’t think of it as lag added, think of it as “lag saved”.
      As for your TV’s SDR or HDR lag, that will vary per panel. But since OLED’s have far less image blur, they’re much more forgiving.
      So your lag estimate might be spot on, but it’s still EXCELLENT. I’d be extremely happy with that on an OLED.
      I hope this helped.
