The powerful precision, swing, rhythmic and melodic inventiveness of Sam Fogarino, drummer with the mighty @InterpolNYC, sets him apart from most drummers.
I feel truly privileged to have been able to talk to Sam ahead of Interpol's show at Primavera Barcelona and ahead of the release of Interpol's 7th studio album since the seminal Turn On The Bright Lights, called The Other Side of Make-Believe. If the singles released so far are anything to go by, we're gonna see a further evolution of their ability to create gigantic soundscapes that are somehow familiar, yet unfamiliar.
In this convo, we get into some of the stuff Sam doesn't often get to talk about - his formative childhood influences, finding his people, the incredible support of his mum, avoiding the rate race, humility, the importance of emotional intelligence, taking risks and self belief.

Such a good interview on both your parts.
Sam is so interesting, and generous with his thoughts. And the whole thing was really engaging. So many interviewers just go from question to question like a to do list. This was like the opposite of that.
