2020-2021 was THE WORST for new experiences! No wonder it’s so hard to be inspired: we’ve been stuck at home, surrounded by awful news every day. You’re basically left to your own motivation, and here’s where videos like this are invaluable. Thank you.
My favorite quote about exploration from my favorite phd was: "In order to discover your 'self,' do the things you haven't done; and don't do the things you have done today." This was all about going out of the comfort zone but seemed so simple that I've turned it into my motto easily.
This video showed me my way. I was lost and too comfortable with my current life. I was feeling uninspired. I don't know why this video has so low views. Thanks RUclips recommendations for this recommendation. Saved my life.
I just started reading again and my creativity has been off the charts in the last couple of weeks! So it really helps! Also, starting a RUclips channel and having that as a creative outlet (instead of focusing 150% on my corporate job) has made me a lot happier overall. Thanks for the content Thomas Frank, keep making people creative!
For me it was all about social isolation. I had lost all motivation to work on my thesis, but now that I'm zooming with my advisor every 2 weeks and held accountable, I have tons of motivation again, even in unrelated areas of life.
Can I ask? I'm experiencing so much stress for these past few months.. the usual things that makes me happy, even my favorite food, can't make me happy.. I don't know what will make me happy
I was questioning this to myself and I searched it on RUclips and I am glad I found this guy. Guys trust me if you keep asking yourself, universe will show you the answer. Energy is real.
I've been stuck in a rut lately and I couldn't really put a finger on what it was causing it until watching this. I've been working relentlessly for the past 3 years to getting my degree in mechanics engineering and everything in my life has been focused on that and not much else. This video put a name to the mask less monster that I've been fighting with and now I can see what I need to do to feel more like myself again and expand my world again. Thanks so much! Keep up the great work
For the longest time I realized my separation between who I used to be in my teens and who I am now. The biggest thing I thought I left behind was my extreme fandom for anime, video games, movies, series etc... I have moved into a place where I want to become more intelligent, but get easily disheartened by the level of comprehension required for some of the books I try dig into. But after seeing this I realized the fandom doesn't have to die with my teen spirit, but rather be transformed into an inquiry of the people I look up to, Joseph Campbell, Alan Watts, Terrence Mckenna and Jordan Peterson, and take that fandom into what inspired them and what moves me now. Thanks Thomas, amazing content good sir

"Exploration" is actually a nice description for this. When I play a fantasy rpg I am having fun and am excited constantly because I explore high and low for better loot, etc. Of course, real life isn't actually a fantasy rpg but how do I find new topics, thoughts and insights? By exploring. If I only stay in my zone and do what I already know all day, I'll probably get bored. So, I have to explore and to learn/ try something new is already fun because it is new.
I'm a quiet viewer/podcast listener but I wanted to get out of my shell and say this: This is an amazing video, exactly what I needed. Feeling okay to get out of my label and feeling okay to exploring new things that may or may not go somewhere but can be another dot on my journey...this video feels like Thomas patted my head and was like hey it's totally okay to do that! Thank you so much, I really hope we have some podcast episodes on each of these topics!
I thought the exact same thing: this video is more focused/concise and is better edited than D'Avella's "Less is Now." Really great video and message.... 👍👍👍
I dont remember what artist said this but it was something like artists are like flower arrangers, they dont create new flowers from imagination, they use flowers that exist already and arrange them in a way that's new and aesthetically pleasing. "Your ability to put out creative work, to combine things, isn't solely influenced by the media you consume and the conversatons you have. It's also maybe even more influenced by the experiences you have" - Thomas Frank! Awesome, great video!
Hi Tom, so earlier today I'm seeing a notification of your video and I decided to let it stay even though I kept on seeing it and felt like it's clattering my drop down but in the middle as I watched I felt grateful that you put your all into this and there's the line where you say, "you never know what is going to contribute to your next piece of creative work".. And for about 2 months inspiration has been funny with me but I've tried to force it and I was jus grateful I let this video stay until I watched it. Super meaningful and helpful.. I'm wrapping up my small experience book, I'm so hyped to get back up to making it as amazing as the idea should become for every one at the end! Thanks man.
Thank you Thomas, this was great. I am inspired! Gave me the boost to buy "How big Things get done". I have to say, that i didn't follow your work the last years, but back in the days 2014ish. Thanks for beeing there along the ride.
That first line from the book definitely gave me chills! There is also something different about the production and flow of this video, it makes me feel like I'm hanging on the thinnest thread connecting the past and present and if I look down, there is a never ending abyss gaping at me. You've outdone yourself with this one Thomas!
I’m so glad I saw this video in my home page and clicked on it, it helped me realize that I have been losing my desire for exploration and as a consequence my curiosity, I’ll make sure to get back to exploring; great video, great topic, thank you !

Wow man, I've been watching your videos for about 3 years now and I'm just noticing how good you've become at filming and cinematography. The shots are beautiful, the transitions are creative, the pacing is cool, the colours are fresh. Apart from the awesome life advice and strategies that I've just come to expect, seriously good job on making the whole experience more creative and enjoyable.
This is the best video I have watched in this phase of my life. Exactly what was going on. And what’s unfortunate about it is you go back to the same thing you were sticking in hopes of finding… hope. All I had to do was type “I don’t feel inspired” and it led me to this video. Thank you.
Wow, this video is so important. Nothing before touched me so much. I feel like thats so simple to get out of a rut - just try new things, things your interested. Wow, this video is incredible. Not just the production, but your thoughts. For what it's worth (and I doubt you'll see this comment, Thomas, since there are so many on this video and it's over a month old!), I don't think of you as a 'productivity guy', because what you offer goes far beyond that. I've followed you for years because I admire the breadth and depth of your curiosity and how you can bring so many ideas together into something fresh, succinct and cohesive. You help me think about things in better ways :-)
Before you got to the "punchline" of this video (around 8 minutes) I saw a slightly different direction it could've taken that actually inspired me even more. The idea I saw was that once you get yourself out into the universe and offer your services---you've chosen your niche and personal brand---your clients and followers will not only elevate your position as an authority in the service (because you are good), they will let you know where you might explore to help them even more, thus initiating a new direction for you to study. They can help you see where you lack certain knowledge in your field or in any creative extension of that field. They can help you push your boundaries to seek new experiences because a) you build that broad knowledge base for connecting more dots and b) you want to help them improve and explore their own creative connections. In other words, if you don't know what to further explore, let the people you serve guide your inspirations.
I definitely needed to hear this... I've spent a few good days enjoying my landscape but I haven't pushed anything beyond my means because theres this daily waiting that seems to have become an elephant in the house. Thank you

Fellow Coloradan here. This is one of your best videos yet. Seriously, amazing work. Also, I read Snow Crash when I was 15 which led to Neuromancer and the rest of Gibson's work, nice to see him mentioned here.
I've been thinking a lot about exploration recently. When exploring, it's easy to fall into the trap of becoming a consumer. I also want to be a creator. So I try to balance creating new things with consuming new ideas to keep me inspired.
I screamed at the mini figure skating clip. I recently got interested in figure skating too, and despite feeling a bit unsure since it feels like a waste of time to learn something I wouldn't be able to "be the best" or even among the best at, starting at this age, I went to the rink anyways and I definitely have no regrets.
Every new video of yours just feels visually more extravagant than the one before!! I can see the amount of time and effort put into this video and it really does make a big impact. Thank you for the content Thomas :)
Amazing video @Thomas Frank ! Such a good reminder for all of us who make a living with our creativity especially; it's so easy to get stuck in a rut or a pattern of work. I'll be saving this video for future review.
Great video, thank you! I've read Neuromancer a while back and it didn't seem particularly innovative, but just because his ideas have inspired countless books and movies. Another one of my favourite incipits is "The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed"
Honestly, such a pleasure to watch, top-notch filmography, thoroughly engaging and not to mention super useful info as well. As an avid watcher of your vids, it's been so inspiring to watch your editing style grow and change over the years. Your advice has always been immensely powerful and has helped me throughout university (many years ago) and is continuing to aid me in my professional career. Just want to say thank you for all the awesome work you do and also to selfishly ask that you keep them coming!
This is the opposite of my problem, Thomas. I'm all explore, no exploit. I'll save a 3 hour lecture about something to watch later because it MIGHT have something of value.
It’s truly majestic, the effort and finesse put into your videos Thomas, apart from the great and well argumented tips. I really admire you for that, you have a loyal follower now. Keep up the great work, great things will come to you soon.
Loved loved loved this video. I have been watching you for quite some time now and your videos have always been very useful. But your recent videos have reached another level of excellence, and they always provide me with new perspectives. Keep up the good work!!
I love the new editing style you have developed. The cut at 1:42 was amazing sending shivers down my spine. The work on the script is amazing, keep up the great work it's wonderful!
Gibson is one of my favorite authors, which led me to other pomo writers like Haruki Murakami. Thank you for explaining the exploitation/exploration dilemma, it has give me a bit to reflect upon.
Wow! This video was so beautifully put together and was gripping from start to finish. I really appreciate all the things being said and it makes me want to do all of this right now 🙌
its been a long time that you upload a video in such quality like you used to do back then, this video was awesome into the point, hope you keep with this great quality.
Really appreciated this video!! I never comment, but just had to say I needed to hear this advice. The effort that consistently goes into this channel is so impressive.
Production quality is awesome. And the message is delivered. Lately i've been feeling stuck with my creativity. But this video inspired me to get back to books and articles

Tom, put this on Netflix.... Loved it ❤
Great great great great great Video 💯
This is what I needed the most but didn't know, thanks Thomas 💯
The timing of this...... Jezuzzzzzzz.... Thank you!
Thomas you're definetely one of the best productivity mentor. Beautiful video. Well Done. Keep Going this way!!!!!
This video gave me a whole lot to think about. I'll need to watch it again or perhaps a few times over for it to sink in! Great content Thomas
This my favorite video of yours so far. The cinematography, the message, the breakdown, the pacing. It's beautiful.
I also chose my major because of you! I graduated with my degree in Management Information Systems last May! Thank you!
You bested yourself in this one, the effort put into research and videography showed even before you talked about it. Thanks.
I definitely needed to hear this... I've spent a few good days enjoying my landscape but I haven't pushed anything beyond my means because theres this daily waiting that seems to have become an elephant in the house. Thank you

This couldn't have come at a better time. Thanks for sharing!!
I am a teacher and this talk is exactly what I needed to share with my Seniors
Fellow Coloradan here. This is one of your best videos yet. Seriously, amazing work. Also, I read Snow Crash when I was 15 which led to Neuromancer and the rest of Gibson's work, nice to see him mentioned here.
I've been thinking a lot about exploration recently. When exploring, it's easy to fall into the trap of becoming a consumer. I also want to be a creator. So I try to balance creating new things with consuming new ideas to keep me inspired.
"Stay in your lane!" I fight everyday against this pressure. My lane is what I decide it is. Learning, experiencing is My Lane! Thanks Thomas :-)
Today I finished reading Neuromancer, and I was inspired to start it thanks to this video. Thank you, Thomas.
Every new video of yours just feels visually more extravagant than the one before!! I can see the amount of time and effort put into this video and it really does make a big impact. Thank you for the content Thomas :)
Bruh the quality of the videos ..... I love it
This content is so much better than binging Netflix 🔥🔥🔥
Amazing video @Thomas Frank ! Such a good reminder for all of us who make a living with our creativity especially; it's so easy to get stuck in a rut or a pattern of work. I'll be saving this video for future review.
Great video, thank you! I've read Neuromancer a while back and it didn't seem particularly innovative, but just because his ideas have inspired countless books and movies.
Another one of my favourite incipits is "The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed"
(also, as a Reinforcement Learning practitioner, love the reference to the Exploration/Exploitation dilemma ^^)
Great video to kick start my day to a new semester today
How do you write these scripts for your videos....i swear there's so much substance to your writing, I love it!
This should be made into full-length documentary! Excellent work Thomas!
Just when I lost all hope of inspiration, Your video actually helped me to get back on track. Thanks a lot for posting this video.
One of your best. Excellent imagery, references and as always, actual information.

I love the new editing style you have developed. The cut at 1:42 was amazing sending shivers down my spine. The work on the script is amazing, keep up the great work it's wonderful!
Been watching you since college a couple years ago. Your production value has gone up so much. Great job !!!
So useful and full of value to help people. Thanks Thomas 🔥🔥🔥
Really insightful analogy - the paper dots.
This was so timely right, thank you Thomas! 🙏😊
Gibson is one of my favorite authors, which led me to other pomo writers like Haruki Murakami. Thank you for explaining the exploitation/exploration dilemma, it has give me a bit to reflect upon.
Dude how are your videos so good though. Like each one is genuinely fantastic.
Man this video shows your knowledge & hard work
6:11-7:01 BEST PART! Thanks for talking about this subject.
Wonderful timing as always as I've been feeling stuck and uninspired. Great idea to explore new things to help inspire you.
Wow! This video was so beautifully put together and was gripping from start to finish. I really appreciate all the things being said and it makes me want to do all of this right now 🙌
