- Amy changes the plans that she had made for her and Sheldon so he could do what he wanted as it was valentines day. Then Sheldon gives Amy a present that she loves.

Amy is amazing. She understands Sheldon so well and doesn't try to do anything that will make him truly uncomfortable. And Sheldon - he knows that for Amy what he did is a gift, a sign of commitment and trust on his part. I think the rest of their group would have just seen it as an obligation or as Sheldon needing them to rescue him, but between Amy and Sheldon - this type of gesture is part of their love language.

@Jake Shattuck That gift was only considered great because Sheldon loves Star Trek and Spock. To someone like me, who doesn't watch Star Trek and doesn't care for Spock or Nimoy, it holds no significance. I would've sold it on eBay or thrown it into the trash. The same goes for Sheldon, Amy only loves it because it holds emotional significance to her. Most other couples, it would've been a bad gift especially the way he worded it. The greatness of a gift is subjective. Depends completely on how useful or significant it is to the receiver.

whatever someone would consider their personal best gift, Sheldon would get that gift for them.
Thus the statement is still true, even under your logic.

I think that it's kinda sweet that the gifts Amy enjoys most are the ones where Sheldon is intimate (for want of a better word) with her. I think it's nice that Sheldon is this comfortable around Amy that he can be that intimate.
Intimate is exactly the correct word here. It doesn't necessarily mean sex. I means very emotionally close, bonded.

As a man who in many aspects of life has similar problems with social issues and protocols this at least to me and probably for Sheldon is a big step it shows that contrary to what Sheldon may seem like he genuinely cares and trusts Amy and this is his way of showing he trusts her with his life it isn’t easy to trust after many years of people failing you and Sheldon remembers everything as if it were fresh for the most part so those hurts don’t leave quickly and new things scare him deeply

Before I married my husband, once when we were going through a hard time with Bill's and he was the only provider for the house (I was in college full time and had school Bill's too) he made me a Valentine's card.. it was so beautiful.. I love their relationship. It is the best out of all of them. They each compromise a lot and invest themselves in each other's needs. Tueu aren't perfect, but Sheldon's growth as he has tried to be better for Amy dwarfs anyone else's. Except maybe Penny's.

For someone who has a big trust and commitment issue, this is the sweetest gift Sheldon will ever give to Amy. Although covered by the comedic sense he's trying to put the obligation on her, it also means he trusts her with his life which is really a big step. I wish I could make women feel like Amy did with gifts that mean very little in the short term. Same! I grew up with Star Trek and Star Wars and I love both! I also love comics and old sci-fi movies and other the boys in Big Bang Theory love, yet the show acts like girls like me don't exist. I love this show but I wish they had shown more girls like us.
If it was some normal guy instead of Sheldon's, I would say Amy was getting seriously bread crumbed. But with Sheldon, emotional stuff gotta be slow and careful and also there was assurance that it's only one woman. No side chicks trash men do all the time.
