Admittedly, in the first two episodes I also kept saying, "...but in the animated series they did this or that" until I realized that it was holding me back from fully immersing myself in THIS series. A few episodes later, I did not mind the mixing /changing of plotlines, characters, and sequences. What matters most is that the changes applied in this version WORK and that I loved this world even more.
My take on Gran-Gran narrating the intro and saying that "Everyone in the village knows this story" is like telling us, the viewers, that we all know this story as well, breaking the 4th wall kinda stuff 😍 show was awesome for me🥰

My son and I thought her delivery was kind of flat. But I watched “the sword and pen reflections” channel last night. She lives near an Indian reservation and that’s pretty much how they talk. So it could be intentional.
Im not sure why everyone is picking at bits saying it was different in the cartoon this bit and that bit. It's stated that this show is an adaptation and not an exact copy. To make every detail the same would be boring, the director has said some things didn'tlook as cool done in real life than in cartoon form. I personally loved this show. I just hope the haters stop saying stuff because netflix said if the fans dont take to it there wont be a season 2 due to costing over 20 million and more an episode It might feel rushed because they had to fit over 20 episodes into 8. I personally loved this and hope they make many more
Honestly, the full run time of these 8 episodes is slightly longer than Book One of the animated show. It feels rushed because pacing for 8 1-hour episodes has to be different than 23 20-min episodes. We're not getting a new story every 20 min. I like the way they blended the important story points into a cohesive narrative. We get more expansion and focus on them while the filler content is cut away. You can really tell the creators have a lot of love and respect for the source material just by the thought they put into weaving it all together.
The firebenders had sozin's comet, thats why they could easily fly, and defeat the air nomads since it gives them "The strength and power of a hundred suns"
I did like how they showed the horror of the genocide of the airbenders, and how fire in THIS show doesn’t just impact but actually set people on FIRE. I don’t like how it doesn’t have the same humor as the original show.
Nice Toph cosplay, Wendy. Earthbenders represent! And I love how Dustin brought up the "rumors" about who could possibly be Suyin Beifong's father. It's actually one of my favorite fan theories 😂
My wife and I watched the second half of the season tonight. I've seen a bunch of the first animated season and she's seen nothing, but we both enjoyed ourselves. The casting was fun - especially King Bumi and General Zhao. The actors made it feel like they were all having a great time.
This is leagues beyond the movie and I really enjoyed this from start to finish. Awesome Toph outfit Wendy and Dustin rockin the slick back hairstyle. Can't wait to see how you two react to the other episodes
I really enjoyed this first episode i was hyped the whole time from how it opened to the finish. I really liked he acting everyone put a nice touch on each character, slight changes but its all good 😊 Heres to 7 more 💪🏻

I already knew it wasn't gunna be a shot for shot live action going in, but as a huge ATLA fan i wouldn't have wanted that because It had to be different and become its own thing. I do still appreciate the attention to detail in the costumes, locations and familiar dialogue thrown in here and there as a treat to the OG fans. :)... P.S. I believe those animals at the beginning are Possum Chickens 😅 I just remember the swamp benders in S2 mentioning the flavor of Possum Chicken 😁.

Don't get too hung up on being a 1:1 of the anime (it's not, they mix in many elements from different places like even from Korra, but done well) and you'll enjoy it a lot!
Airbenders can keep themselves warm in low temperatures with breathing techniques, I can't recall where I saw or heard this but I know it is true to the ATLA lore
Hiro Kanagawa and Clyde Kusatsu amazing character actors. Both are incredible voice actors as well voicing Reed Richards and Karnak for their respective shows Fantastic Four: Worlds Greatest Heroes and Fantastic Four: The Animated Series voicing Karnak during the Inhumans Saga arc.
and this is why, back in the day they usually only done book based live action stuff, cos if you read a book, the "delivery" is up to you its youre imagination, and thus you know its not how it should be, its how you imagined, and if they do a live action movie/series, you can look over stuff more, cos everything that is up to you and not specifically detailed in the book can be changed without being to bothering. but cos you know how the animated version was, you will find things that wont work the same way, not even acting. als the actors cant do a carbon copy of the animated series voice actors or the animations/emotes. so all the things will have inheret differences.
They need to do a back story to avatar when aang was trap in the ice and the hundred year war was going on during sozin and his son azulon time so we can see how things develop before the discovery of aang like we saw some of the past clips in the animation series
the big problem about the movie other then having m night shamalon do it since he is known for horror movies only and and the terrible effects of the bending however the water and the air looked deceit is the fact that Jackson Rathbone, Nicole Peltz and Niah Ringer were alot older then their characters by atleast 10 yrs where as in the Tv series they are around the same age ias their characters which is why they are doing alot better i binge this 1st season and it was amazing please let me know what you think

For a tv series, budget limitations, length of the story and young cast, I don't know how they could do any better. Sure, give them another 120 million for another 8 episodes and might, might be better.... But I don't know who has that under the bed.

Aang seems so overpowered in the early episodes (both the cartoon and this) because almost no-one has ever had to fight an Airbender in 100 years. In fact, only one or two living people on their entire world have ever even met an Airbender before; and only one knows how an Airbender fights. Fans of the cartoon will understand this, people just starting should keep watching.
Hi, we won’t be able to get to the Bad Batch for a bit. Since BB is on a weekly release, we have time to catch up before the finale, while ATLA has all the episodes out now, so we’re prioritizing ATLA.
I dislike when p complain and try to compare anime series to live action. The characters aren’t going to be the same and the line aren’t going to be exactly the same. Let’s not make this a more complicated series then what it really is. You cannot compare a cartoon to live action ppl.
I'm really not happy with this episode, especially the ending... watched this episode and then I went back to the anime because I remembered that was better and it is better... There are things I like about the episode, like the intro and the strategy and uncle Iroh's talk with Aangm but at the same time it doesn't feel like the same uncle, he would usually goof off...

When I changed the settings on my TV, I could see everything a thousand times better, and all the effects look much much nicer.

Yeah, he's not cold in the original either, in the South Pole or the North Pole.
